I played it now and my previous concerns about some of the "sharper" artwork are gone. Everything looks fantastic ingame and it has a very nice atmosphere. Are the multiple paths or is it linear? I only ask because I saw another way but couldn't reach it. Thought you were not supposed to go there but maybe I'm wrong. I'm probably asking for way too much here but are you ever planning on making the top half of the body follow the direction the gun is pointing? Even if it's something as simple as it facing left/right properly when the gun goes past 12/6'o clock would make things look a lot less silly.
Also this. :D

**Teensy Spoiler** If you want to take a peek down the rabbit hole at more pretty things, go watch my new youtube preview
The thing at the beginning and the big monster seemed kinda out of place to me. With the whole nice low resolution look, the sharp edges on these didn't really fit. Not sure if this is actually true in case of the monster as you could only see it briefly but I noticed this at the beginning.

I believe players should be the judges, not developers. After all they are the audience that the games are intended for, no?
That's what the audience award is for.

I didn't talk about "independant devellopers", but "indie" and all the decorum that goes on at these shows.
Even looking now back at it I think that most of us would not have used that term but we are at a point now where you can't go back and choose another one. Well it's the same with Indie music.

How do you know? (I'm not asking to be a jerk, by the way--I genuinely want to know how you know it deserves to win, given that the game hasn't been released yet.)
I also wonder that. This makes like the third time in a row (?) that the grand prize winner was a game that didn't even have a demo available to the public. Well all those winners turned out to be quite awesome so I see nothing wrong with it so far.

So is Alec / the community going to get cracking on this anytime soon? Don't mean to pressure anyone, it just sounds like we should try and gain some momentum. It looks like we know we at least want an object/component model, OpenGL rendering, and homegrown data structures.
After the cockpit compo I will look into at least bringing mangled textured-quad-rendering code to the table for everyone to critique.
Once the GDC is over I guess it will start taking momentum.

But think of it this way: what did it cost them? Maybe $50 for each copy of Nintendogs, and postage. What did it get them? Coverage on major gaming sites. That's a *very* efficient use of money.
Seriously, it won't get a lot of coverage other than the major gaming sites and on these you don't find "sisters or mothers or aunts". If anything they updated their image in the gaming community as some stupid headless company who cares more about stupid publicity rather than the real issues of animal abuse.

They're obviously wasting resources that were better used in serious cases that actually change something. As if Infinity Wards would stop putting killable dogs in their game if it was part of their realistic setting just because PETA send them Nintendogs.

Yeah, although I think he also invented the FPS genre? Or was that someone else?
Well I'm pretty sure that this invention was not of one particular person but rather a group effort. What is for sure is that Carmack is an exceptional programmer and mind, though no game designer. He never had that role as far as I know.

I really loved Grandia 2.
One of my favorite Dreamcast games ever. I have been meaning to pick up the original on PSX sometime... Same. Back then my English was still crappy and we had no German version of it but I played it nevertheless because I digged the combat system so much. I still think that it's partly because of this game that English is my best subject in school today.
