This alpha is about getting the graphics sorted out, so I'm glad you like them. I'm not sure weather to go all out on it and get digging, construction, pirate attacks etc in, as it's intended as more of a quick pick up and play game than anything with proper depth, to keep it simple. I definitely need to make some stuff outside that would coax the player out of their safe haven.. Any ideas would be lovely Wink I'm not sure weather to put points etc into it or not.

Also: on the more long term list are Multiplayer Versus and Cooperative modes, where in co-op you don't harm each other and versus you do. Maybe versus would also have a "PX wins!" dialogue.

This. Going to make an exercise in futility game about blocking the tide with sandbags, but the tide will just keep rising until it beats you. That's the plan anyway, hopefully I can find some good way of doing the water in game <_<

Everything is ruined forever, Literally Impossible, Paranoia, Tempus edax rerum, Dura necessitas, and Jumbled are my favourites so far.

"Abstract game mechanics" would be another I'd like to add, could be interesting to have a jam full of incredibly readable games.

It'd be nice to see some new game mechanics... I think a telltale sign of the battle system needing revamping is that once you've beaten the first gym/played for 10 minutes battling fodder pokemon turns into you mashing A and wondering why the battle isn't over yet. In almost every other game with combat, battling is the mechanic you play for, not the one you try to spend as little time as possible doing. Sure, it works fine for things like the battle tower, but eh, it just seems pretty stale nowadays.

Cool, nice to use my stepmania skills outside of stepmania.
Still, it didn't feel very funky at times, needed much more slap bass Wink Still cool.

Grab the one labelled "PANORAMA_ALPHA3", unless you want the impossible-to-play-on-anything-stronger-than-a-P3 buggy version with no graphics.

So, I did ludumdare this time, but with under 16 hours of total development time for the competition, I was somewhat doomed to fail. Regardless, I pressed o- blah blah blah screenshot:

It's a platformer, you run around and try to not die for as long as you can.

Still alpha version, but stable enough for some sort of play. I'm aware of a lot of bugs, but if you get anything unexpected, I'd love to hear about it. There's probably about 30 hours of time put into this now, which I'm kind of happy about (at the same time I wonder why I couldn't do it in 20, it's simple as anything)

You'll need love from love2d.org to play it, When I do the release I'll include the runtimes for windows and linux, and maybe OSX if I can be bothered dicking about with the weird packaging system, but it's simple enough to set up yourself.

Keen to hear what you guys think, general feedback is fine, bug reports are great, feature requests will be considered.

From DataRealms, on the future:

If I do keep working on it past the PANORAMA release (with the 3 todo items in the readme completed) I'll start adding things like [digging and possibly collectables], maybe being able to construct blocks if you mine out some form of stone, and probably make pirates spawn from ships to plunder your base. Regardless, it's intended as a short-lived timewaster, as an aside from my normal huge projects that eat time and don't get finished. I'm trying so hard not to feature creep it, haha.
Someone also wants split screen multiplayer, which I'm considering...

Enjoy!

Only thing that annoyed me was the vocoder raging at me after a while. Other than that, freaking brilliant.

Well, I've known about tigsource for ages, so I figure it's probably time to man up and get myself out there. Sorry in advance for the heap of whitespace around.

My name is Max, but I'm Geti just about everywhere I go on the web. For those wondering why, it popped into my head when I was 12, and I just sort of started using it as my alias. I found out a few years ago that it's also the name of the Universe in Zoroastrianism (or at least, the physical manifestation of everything), and I was pleased with this, being full of myself at the time, so I stuck with it.
I've been a denizen of the internet on some level since I was 13.

Oh yeah, here's me:

I'm doing some sort of furious thinking for a post your own pictures thing on the DataRealms forums.

Anyway, I'm 17 now, born January 1993, And I'm in my finishing year of Secondary school, and planning on going to uni next year. For those of you interested, I'm currently in a pretty deep relationship with a girl called Amy, and we've been together for just over 2.5 years. Maybe I'll get a picture of her later.

My interests are.. numerous.
I play guitar, listen to whatever music takes my fancy (generally alt-rock/metal (death cab, the xx, a pile of emo stuff you'd all hit me for liking Smiley) or a bit of guitar-y electronica (Flashbulb <3), but with forays into classical, funk, god knows what else), spend a fair bit of time on the computer but not too much (imho Tongue), party at the start of the weekend, procrastinate doing homework pretty often, drink in moderation (read 3-6 beers), like thinking about games, music, and god knows what else while walking around the hills near where I live, and goodness, I don't know what else, but I don't want to be summarised by 7 lines or whatever this turns into formatted. I don't play sports as a general rule, I keep fit otherwise (running mostly).

I've been coding for.. God, I don't know how long I'd call it. I got alright at C++ a while back, did a bit of basic, and then left it alone for a while, never did anything game related. I've always wanted to make games, but lacked the means for ages. Cortex Command got me into modding, which once Lua was involved got me into that, so now it's really what I'd call my primary language. I want to go back and learn real languages soon, but for now I'll develop things in love2d and enjoy the creative process.

As a quick note, a few of my idols (in the sense of creative inspiration) are Arne Jansson, who I know you guys are all to well acquainted with, Dan T from Data Realms, M&R from Metanet Software, and JohanP from Free Lunch Design.

Anyway, games. That's why we're here, right?
I like games, making them and the creative process behind them more than playing them, for the most part (at least recently). I haven't been alive through all the interesting formative years, but I suppose that makes me lucky, as I get to reflect and compare without nostalgia getting in the way Wink
My first real experience with gaming was when I bought my Gameboy Colour. I payed for it out of my own money (!!!), and my parents got me pokemon blue for my birthday (I chose it, screw red).
I enjoyed it a lot back then, and it's affected quite a bit of how I see games I suppose, though I couldn't exactly place how (It could be related to the fact that I wasn't allowed anything with real violence in it until I started getting the games myself). I don't get the same enjoyment from pokemon any more though. Ruby was another big one for me, and I actually appreciated it more than blue, but I'm not sure weather I could go play it again.

[as an aside, I'd like to say that I played quite a few rougelikes "back in the day", ragnarok got me into them and then more recently dwarf fortress revived my interest, but I couldn't place anything as huge for me. It was a large chunk of my past, but not anything I can derive anything interesting from for you, apologies]

Zelda. Oh god Zelda. The gameboy ones, the N64 ones, and to a lesser extent the more modern ones. I love this series, for all the times they had me both yelling at the stupid boss as it took those hearts from me one by one and furiously playing my best. I think that's the kind of game I love, one I can play hard at. Again, playing through them nowadays gives me less of that, because I'm better at games now, but still: fuck you Bongo Bongo.
Megaman, especially the zero games. Damn they were hard. Quick reaction times, knowing the weapons, using those elves right... I can also go back and actually have a blast nowadays, which is a bonus. Very much liked them, and loved the art style of Zero and Battle Network

And then.. Well, I don't know. A curious mix of indie everything (read: N, Cortex Command, brief affairs with spelunky and cave story), which I suppose brings me to tigsource. So, uh: Hey guys, looking forward to getting to know some of you. Until I see you next (likely in feedback, once my Ludum Dare thing is stabilised), Gentleman Adieu.
