Nowadays there is a lot of tension on the App Store about rip-offs.. and for a good reason indeed.

FF2R simply wants to be an old school arcade racer. Yeah, it borrows from Out Run as well, but it's just how these racing games were made. And Out Run itself it's well.. everyday's driving if you've ever been in an LA freeway 8)

Being the programmer for the game, I can only think it's kick ass.. but it's just me.
The graphics is by MisBug, music by Mr. Armalyte himself.

Technically, I don't think that there is anything quite like it on the App Store or actually anywhere else.. because it takes quite a bit of dedication to actually reproduce roads like they were made in this kind of games.
So, it's all original code and art, and no cheap remake of anything in particular.. or so, I say 8)

There is no special game play and there isn't any story to follow.. this is simply about racing on the freeway, really.

Have fun ! 8)

Hi everyone.. I'm Davide, from Japan (but Italian)

Used to be slave game programmer for years, now independent developer, since April 2010.
I signed up on TIG 1 year ago while I was writing my first independent game ..it went ok and now I have released another one.

I like programming first and foremost and I like games too (mostly arcade), but I don't play as much anymore.

I'm passionate about graphics programming, but not very much about GPU, shaders and APIs (it's too high level !)

Thanks,
Davide

4  Jobs / Offering Paid Work / Looking for artist for old-school racer on: May 19, 2010, 04:06:49 PM
I'm developing a racing game for the iPhone, similar to the old Out Run from SEGA.

As a reference, here is what I developed in Java several years ago: http://v4.kazzuya.com/test/kazrace/

Because of the small size of the project, I've been doing the bulk of graphics work by myself (cars, road-side objects), but I need an artist that can do 2D sprite animations for the final sequences (1-2 maximum for now).

Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WiWiTXq4yYY#t=5m26s

I will provide the car animation, but I need animation on whatever human figures (at least a guy and a girl).

The style shouldn't be extremely old-school, but more an evolution of it, e.g. no palette limitations, etc.

Code-wise, the development is at an advanced stage, and I need help with art as soon as possible.

Please reply here or e-mail me directly at dpasca <at> gmail.com .

Thank you,
Davide
