Right but he has a HORRIBLE moveset, and all his spells take an hour to cast, and him and his clones all spawn simultaneously. You can often kill two of them before they even get the first spell off.
I never wait for clones to spawn and start putting spells out, just play whack a mole. Run torwards the the closest spawn, 1hit it or if it's the real one combo him so all despawn and roll to dodge a soulspear if necessary, then run straight torwards the next closest, etc. Every clone you kill dramatically lowers its damage potential, your odds are probably better eating a hit when there's one up than taking cover or w/e and letting all 4 start casting shit. The spells all have long windup animations so it's pretty clear what's gonna get cast at you, and 99% of them can be dodged by rolling forward (into an attack, obviously, because the goal here is to kill each clone as fast as possible). If the Real One is casting homing crystal soulmass and nothing else is being cast that will kill you when you're hitstun, just eat part of it and kill him. It's hard to reliably trigger the whole thing but very easy to trigger enough with a roll that it's harmless.
i mean, i do the same thing. but, even with the cast times, it's still there's still spells like the white dragon breath or the rain where u don't see the clone/boss casting it, then you're hit bc you were busy playing whack a mole and couldnt see the others behind you, but this is worse because you Can't Eat a Hit when the white dragon breath takes 90% of your hp or that if a soul spear hits you, it's enough time for 2 other spears to hit you too while you're staggered. And if you get hit by the crystal soulmass that's enough time for one of the slow homing crystals to smack into you too.

unrelatedly: i am blown away that some people (inlcuding ppl way better at souls games than me) fine crystal sage hard. I was positive he was gonna be considered this game's joke boss, easiest by far to me. he shoots a lot of projectiles that straight up cannot hit you if you run torward him and maybe roll once!
when the clones are all about, there's usually a change for you to still get hit because you roll into a crystal ground beam instead or etc, because there's too many projectiles going on at once, and a lot of it off-screen. this might be okay if your strategy is to just run up to the main guy and pray, but that doesn't work if your damage output isn't high enough.
and if the main one uses homing crystal soulmass, you basically cant attack him until you get rid of those, but the game is bad about How Exactly those activate, so i'll usually try to activate all of them but then one or two wont activate, so i'll shrug and hammer away at the boss, and only then will they activate. and that kinda then kills me lol.

@Joe
Tower of Latria 2.0 is one of my favorite areas.
lol, i hate that level. just comparing it to tower of latria just makes it feel worse for me lol. you got looked at a lot huh? i mean, even then, the layout is p. ho-hum and the enemy design is either that or the more boring enemies in the game lol. admittedly, i don't even like the beginning layout of latria-1 much

nah seriously though there's not a functional 'game critique' you can learn from yet, so studying lit crit or, if you can't read, film crit, is the only play if you want to actually know what the fuck.
the joke here is that lit crit and film crit arent any more functional than not being versed in crit the only functional crit is food crit

+1 Jimym
Good writing always matters. I would watch a well written movie without action over the most action packed movie out there.
none of the original movies were even well written in any sense
