I've been a frequent visitor on this forum and on the blog for the last 6 months I think, but now I tought I might as well just register.
My name is René and I'm from Denmark although I'm currently residing on the Faroe Islands. (If you don't know where it is, it's rougly between England and Iceland out in the Atlantic Sea) I'm 24 years old and I work as a system developer for a company in Denmark where I primarily work with .NET applications and websites, and with a bit of C++ programming.
I started with a 50 Mhz Intel 486 computer and 4 mb RAM (But we upgraded it to 8!!). The first game I played on it was Ultima Underworld. I think I was about 10 years old. It was a very scary game and I actually never completed even the first level. But nevertheless it started within me a desire to make games. I tried to learn QBasic by tweaking Nibbles and Gorillas, but I never really made anything useful. Later I learned how to program in Turbo Pascal. I tried to make several small text-only games, but I didn't know anything about structuring code so it was really an uphill struggle. Later again when I was about 15, I learned C++ which I've been using since.
Well, it's getting a bit lengthy, but to this day I'm still very interested in making my own games, so I currently use alot of my spare time on improving my programming skills graphics wise. I hope I'll be able to be a part of the next competition after PGC. But I have to admit, that so far, the only games I've "completed" is games I made in Klik & Play.
And that's a long time ago.So, uhm, the short version is that I'm an enthusiastic C++ programmer with a passion for creating games, but so far haven't really made anything interesting.
So, what's left to say? Ah, my favorite games. Here they are (In no particular order)
- Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - Great game, great game. I haven't played the older ones, but this game was so awesome. I've been thinking about buying the new Zelda for the Wii.
- Counter-Strike - I might get shot for admitting it, but I've played alot of CS, and I still think it's one of the best multiplayer games I've played. I don't play it anymore though.
- Civilisation - What a great game. It had enourmous replay value, as the whole world was randomly generated.
- Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn - Ah, this was also a great game. The atmosphere in the game, the sounds...and the MUSIC! At one point, not long ago, I seriously thought about getting the soundtrack for the game. (Do any of you remember C&C Thang? If it gets you nostalgic, try visiting http://www.frankklepacki.com/)
- Atomic Bomberman - You might think I'm being silly here, but I really like this game because of the strategy in multiplayer. If you don't believe there's any real strategy in Atomic Bomberman, I believe it's because you haven't played it enough.

I've probably forgot some other games that even meant more to me than these, but this is what I could come up with from the top of my head.
Well, I think I've bored you enough. I look forward to contribute to the community the best I can.
Thanks for your time.
