Excellent sprites. I'd love to see them moving.

I love the blue jay.
Seconded. Second thirded.
The green mouse cannon is certainly a thing too.

Hey there Xenthral!

If you're the Xenthral I think you are, then welcome! (I mean, welcome anyways.)

I'd definitely love to see some 8bit 3D games, so keep stuff coming.

Your cat needs a brush.

Use a 'magic wand select' + 'copy' + 'paste as new image' instead.

it is still a bloody shame. Sad

I haven't got a lot going on in the game ideas department, but I've been very much inclined to using these sets and portraits, probably combined with others' jrpgish sets.

Anyhow, thanks for contributing towards the general awesomeness level.

Can programmers use public domain art? Or ONLY art that's in the subforum threads?

it's gotta be art that was created for the compo, during the compo.

I'm loving these right now as I speak. That's right.

Might even use some of them (the shadow and the mind flare/flayer are excellent).

I was wondering if we are allowed to modify assets?

At first I had it in mind because I needed something analogous to format conversion (color key -> alpha). But just to be clear on the rules, is modification allowed, and if so, how?

(Of course, the original author is being asked first and credited and and--)

awesometric!

(I was going to ask for an alpha blending friendly version, then I've found this, which might come handy to those who want to use these tiles with OpenGL and don't know how.)

That's nice stuff right there. Subtransit is very inspiring. The glass celeste thing in Nice has a little too much high frequencies IMHO.

(You may want to correct the link to the Nice track in your first post (it links to Subtransit -- the updated Nice link works tho).)

I've sent off your e-mail, tailored to colleges in London offering Game Design courses. I hope that they'll have more negotiable prices than other sorts of venues.

It's probably best to list where, so we don't collide. Emailed:
  • Qantm
  • London College of Communcation
  • West Thames College
  • City of Westminster College

That's great, thanks!

My list included:
  • Goldsmith College (New Cross)
  • William Shakespeare College (Deptford)

Here's my template, in spoiler-vision:

Dear Sirs,

I am one of the organisers of the upcoming TIGJam UK2, an independent game developers' convention.

TIGJam is an initiative of The Independent Gaming Source, TIGSource for short. We are a prominent web-based community of artists, animators, game designers and programmers - please refer to the homepage, http://tigsource.com/ for more information. This would be the fourth installation of TIGJams following last year's Phoenix (US) and London, and this year's Berlin (DE) events.

We are currently looking for a place to host the event. As a college offering [course in game design], I thought it would be worthwhile asking if you have spare rooms available for hire in your campus. Hosting the event would naturally promote your course, both to attendees and to our wider community internationally.

We are looking for a function room or hall available for hire for the period 4 - 7 December, 2009. The room will ideally be able to accommodate 40 - 50 people and their laptops (seating and tables). Wi-Fi internet access would be an important plus, however we can arrange for it should it not be available at the premises.

I would be grateful if you could send me a quote to this e-mail address. If you require further information, please contact me on [Phone Number].

Thank you for your help in advance.

Best regards,
[Name]

Thanks for the fixes. After I've posted mine I felt something was missing; what you've added is perfect.

Also, you write the 4-7th, but are we actually looking to book for that long? I got the impression that the previous one only ran outside of work hours?

It might be worthwhile enquiring after other dates if they are booked for that particular weekend.

There's been a poll and 4-7 December was the most popular. Granted, I've seen some of us would agree to push it to January - I just ran with the official version. The Berlin Jam was Friday-Monday too, I'm guessing that's where this four day format was coming from (as far as I can remember, the first London Jam was Friday-Sunday). Of course, it can all be changed.

hey folks,

sorry about the silence, but I didn't have capacity to make arrangements until recently. I've sent out a good couple of e-mails this week to possible venues in London (South-Eastern quadrant).

here's a template, it'll hopefully help those who want to help rounding up a venue (I mean, getting into motion was certainly harder for me than keeping moving, maybe it isn't just me):

The other thing to bear in mind about London is that it's really too large to be considered one place. How good it is as a venue depends very much on exactly where in London we'd be. The centre is fun, but way too expensive accommodation-wise, whilst most of the bits further out are significantly inferior to Oxford or Cambridge.
Agreed on so many levels.

What sorts of venues seem likely?
I've picked up phone numbers of sports and educational centres, I'll try nearby (= Crystal Palace Park / Bromley) community centres and such.

Maybe this might help http://www.doodle.com/bqavm9ciep77accz  ?
