1  Community / Jams & Events / Re: A MAZE. / Berlin 2014: April 9-11 on: January 17, 2014, 05:11:33 AM
Hello, I'm one of the regular Berlin Mini Jam organizers.

I estimate that the most likely dates for a jam for amaze guests are 5th, 6th, 12th or 13th of April and there should be a decision made before February.

Meanwhile, have a video of last year's post-amaze jam results:

Berlin Mini Game Jam is a relaxed prototyping workshop: After we have chosen a theme together, we form teams or go solo to make game graphics, concepts and prototypes on computers, phones, cardboard or physical space.

Check out results from the last jam.

3  Community / Townhall / Greenlight: Help Nikki jump on Steam! on: November 22, 2012, 09:21:46 AM

Nikki and the Robots is now on Steam Greenlight™ and we sure hope that it will get enough Thumbs Up to join the comfortable cross-platform player community soon!

It might end up being the first piece of software on Steam that is open source code and written in Haskell.

Nikki and the Robots Greenlight Trailer

By the way, if you happen to speak German: we have been interviewed by Pixelmacher and will appear for four minutes on German TV (ZDF.Kultur on Monday 26th Nov 2012, 22:30 - 23:00 GMT+1) and more material will be available on pixelmacher.tv for two weeks after that.

We decided to keep the pay-what-you-want going until we find a good reason to set a fixed price.

Can you think of a good reason?...
5  Community / Jams & Events / Berlin Mini Jam [Oct 6th, 2012] (Berlin, Germany) on: September 25, 2012, 04:02:10 AM

On Sat, October the 6th, 2012, starting 12 noon we return once more for another time of glorious jamming!

Berlin Mini Game Jam is a relaxed prototyping workshop: After we have chosen a theme together, we form teams or go solo to make game graphics, concepts and prototypes on computers, phones, cardboard or physical space.

Do whatever you want, but bring any materials you need!

Anyone is welcome! Artists, game designers, coders, hobbyists or professionals, everyone!

We are looking forward to meet new people and to see known faces again!

There is no fee - thank you, co.up coworking! You can return their kindness by buying some of their 1€ drinks!

Oh, and don't forget to post a theme suggestion for the jam in the replies (I activated reply notifications) or on the Facebook event page!

7  Developer / Playtesting / DNT: satirical post-apocalyptic RPG [open source] on: September 07, 2012, 05:00:54 PM
DNT is an open source, in-dev satirical post-apocalyptic RPG. You can fight rats, collect game cartridges for kids so they can shape the future of gaming, hack computers, install operating systems and lock-pick doors...

You can download the game for Linux, Mac OS X and Windows here. Please also report any problems download/running the game.

Assuming you have all dependencies installed, you can easily test the development version via:
Code:
git clone git://git.code.sf.net/p/dnt/code dnt
cd dnt/
cmake .
make
cd bin/
./dnt

All feedback is welcome and will be forwarded to the lead developer. My few contributions (sounds, graphics, game mechanics change/addition suggestions, quest ideas, dialogs scripts) have been received well and accepted quickly, so if you have something to offer to enhance DNT, please contribute. Hello, I am looking for artists to add/improve 48px portraits in the style of:

However, the game itself is a 3d isometric view RPG, so if you feel like creating lowpoly 3d models for that game (I believe .obj files would be necessary), it would be very welcome.

You can read and see much more in my seeking-artists-thread.

Your cartoon style would be totally fitting (although perhaps the style of the game has a tea spoon more 'realism' and a table spoon less 'quality') Smiley

Hello, I am looking for artists to add/improve 48px portraits in the style of:

Your style might actually be "too good" for the rather sloppy style of the game but perhaps that's an area you would like to explore. Smiley The game is SFW, but there's a transgender option in the character selection, which *might*(?) interest you.

You can read and see much more in my seeking-artists-thread.

I take it that you made the art in that screenshot? Then I believe that your cartoon style might be quite fitting to the game, for which the portraits are.

Hello,

I'm a contributor to DccNiTghtmare (aka DNT) which is an in-development, open source role-playing computer game, heavily inspired by the Fallout series.

I would like find artists to make character portraits for this game, licensed under a free license (see below). You will be given credit and will effectively enrich the sum of open source game art this way, as your work will be usable by other projects, thanks to the clear licensing terms.

Style/Color Scheme:
I recommend using the portraits that are so far in the game as inspiration. I would describe it as post-apocalyptic, dirty, crazy, cartoon style:

Images: Current good character portraits

Some art has been submitted on an opengameart thread, which will probably also be added:

Image: additional good, not yet in-game portraits

Size:
54x54px
Can be bigger but must look good at 54x54px.

Type of Graphic:
Portraits of various player and non-player characters. For player characters, see the possible configuration options for inspiration:
  • _ _ Gender: Male, Female, Transgender
  • _ _ Students of: administration, biology, computer science, journalism, law, mechanical engineering, medicine, music, philosophy, physical education, physiotherapy, occupational therapy
  • _ _ Races: strange autists, "boy"/"patty", goths, hippies, common humans, human lamas, headbangers, mutant human crickets, skinheads
The main goal is to replace the current placeholder portraits but feel free to come up with completely new designs!

Image: Current placeholder portraits

Preference on how the image is constructed/made:
Background has to be transparent.
Ideally with layered .xcf or .psd, so colors (clothing, skin, etc.) can be easily switched.
If you want, you can upload directly to OpenGameArt (no registration required) so it is instantly archived.

More info about the game:
You can download and play the latest release of DNT for Linux, Mac OS X or Windows.
