P.S. I thought that idea I had for the TIGdb icon would be nice because the logo on that site is similarly gray and white. I thought it was good to use the joystick from TIGdb, because it is different from the other two and I think that more difference is better for differentiating. (I might be wrong.) Eh, sorry for what follows.  I just cleaned up the existing favicon into 3 colors + transparency (NES sprite style I guess), added the missing button, and made two versions with alternate colors. Why sorry? They are so nice! And clean! The only question is: Is color-coding appropriate for differentiating between TIGS/F/db? Waaait a seecond!  Haha! I guess it is. Would ya care to create a violet one? (Am I correct in assuming that the violet color would be the appropriate one for playing the TIG S role?) In any case, your icons there will definitely replace the current one! Man! So crispy!

You can use Free Art Search to search the media repositories of some open source games. Side note: the thread title is ambiguous, I recommend you change it to "Looking for isometric placeholder sprites" Side note: there are three minutes between your first two posts, I recommend the edit-technique for attaching post scriptum information. I did a sloppy job so I wouldn't steal qubodup's spotlight and job. The lack of smiley leads me to thinking that you might in fact be not joking  PS: Crap, this can be red as an insult. Is not supposed to be such. Sorry. About the 'job': I'm offering to do it, because I wouldn't like to demand others to do it. I don't think my result would be optimal, but it would be good enough or attract someone talented  PPS: Thanks for your ideas and work. The left one has a background that makes it hard to identify the joystick and the right one is too edgy (non-shaded) other than that your approaches seem valid. My only concern is that the icons would not be very connected to the page they represent, as no TIG page contains icons in any of the styles you proposed. This is why I think a small version of the TIGdb joystick would be good for the TIGdb site. For making a difference between forum and blog... we'll have to come up with something. That multi-joystick idea sounds good. Hope it works with 16 pixels.

Perhaps there should be the weekll/biweekly/whatever "art/design/music/etc" special written by like, ANYONE from the extended community. I think that's been suggested, though. Can you give us links to discussions on this topic? (Community-contributed posts) I ask you, because I'm pretty clueless about what to enter into the search engine. Just key words would even help

That's a good idea!
Did you get the electronic mail that asked you for some nice-to-edit stuff for making a favicon? Or are you now working on an own?  That would be cool (though even cooler would be a Fav Icon Mini-Competition!) Haha, qubodup, you are the proliferator of favicons.

Heylo, I want to suggest creating different favicons for forum, blog and database. This way they will be better distinguishable when looking at the browser tabs.  Please think what you tell on this. For example: TIGdb icon  . Of course everybody can tell that this one sucks but someone with access to the original logo files could produce a decent one. (without background) Pancakes.

Since I'm not in America, I can do the same thing, right? It should be illegal in Russia too. And probably also where you are located (most of earth). So how do I acquire an official license for songs?
Did you try to find contact information (email or telephone) and contact them?

I think the real joke is hidden at the bottom. Experts commented that gamers may form bonds with fellow online players.

Now, Brandon's father says he just wants his son to come home. This gives me the impression that the father sympathizes with his son's reaction. Which is far more weird than a kid running away after his parent taking away is favorite toy ever.

Hey, I haven't played F3 yet (and won't till I get a decent system in about 2011), am a big fan of F1/2 and only watched five Fallout 3 gameplay videos [ , , 3, 4 and 5. watch them in order. also contains spoilers, don't watch if you're a puss]. I didn't like the characters (not sure if it's only because of the voice acting). The scenery also seems somewhat Wild West like. Not fitting. One thing I noticed: When you spoiler the spoiler, a GUI indicator shows that you lost karma. In the Black Isle-made Fallouts, you had a field for karma in the character sheet, and you only got the info about your karma, if you wanted it (you check before and after an action). Since Fallout 3 gives you the info directly, a character takes this as raw "is this action profitable or not?"-calculation data, as it is so eagerly provided. This way actions of the player become abstract, driven by points instead of role play or morale. Of course "if you don't care, you will ignore" but at least subtly you will take notice. Also if you want to be an evil guy, you will likely repeat actions that take karma away, even if they don't make sense role play-wise.

NoDerivatives. You let people copy, distribute, display, and perform only verbatim copies of your work — not make derivative works based on it. If they want to alter, transform, build upon, or remix your work, they must contact you for permission. These are the two I'm not so sure about. If some music has the ShareAlike clause and I use it in a game, does that mean that I must put all of the game's content under a SA license as well? And if the music is under ND, may I even use it at all? ShareAlike (~copyleft) does not require all the other stuff in the game to be equally licensed. Only if you combine files when one of them is copylefted, then the result must be under the copyleft license. Creating videos and screenshots of games that contain CC-BY-SA stuff would be really hilarious though, because the vid/scr would be a derivate work (unless you create it under fair use terms). It would be ok to put nonderivate sound in your work, but you would not be allowed to loop it through altering the file. (though I would recommend asking for permission in that case.) IANAL. However, the ShareAlike clause only applies to derivative works, and I believe that a game that uses a song is not a derivative work unless the game depends on the song for other thinks, a la rhythm games. The code would still be independant, unless you put the audiofile into the binary, then the binary would have to be ccbysa I think.

Helloes Mrs. Morris, I tried to compile Bootleg Bash for GNU/Linux using 'g++ main.cpp' and failed. I'll just dump the output here real quicka-like: $ g++ main.cpp main.cpp:31: error: multiple parameters named ‘image’ main.cpp: In function ‘int main(int, char**)’: main.cpp:809: warning: ‘int text_mode(int)’ is deprecated (declared at /usr/include/allegro/alcompat.h:155) main.cpp:809: warning: ‘int text_mode(int)’ is deprecated (declared at /usr/include/allegro/alcompat.h:155) I wasn't able to test the game so far, because Wine seemed not to care to play nice. :| I'm the guy who asked about whether you're going to release BB under a free license - what's your current plan for that? Public domain is fine, zlib license is kinda cool but there are lots of possibilities.

For me, pixel art was the right way, because you, as the artist, can control the graphic (as it has a size which you can overview) and because you can work abstractively using math.
Now I work with vectors, which are not perfect, but future-proof.
PS: Also I started my "aware computer guy"-being as a web developer. Pixel art and icons went hand in hand and still do mostly.
For me it's not really about the style. I prefer the resolution-independance of vectors in 2d an 3d graphics and would love to be able to describe everything (including textures) in vectors. But we're not there yet.
