I tried Pixen for a while but it has a lot of stupid bugs and crashes. The UI can be counter-intuitive at times and more often than not the tool would inhibit me rather than support me.
I just use PdN now, I'm happy with it. As mentioned though, I am at a loss for previewing animations, which can be a pain for my workflow.

.... Those are definitely mockups man. Anyway, here's some shit I did earlier: John Sandoval said to ask real artists for critique so I'm posting here in the hopes of real artists coming around and possibly giving me some critique.

@FuzzYspo0N Yes, I'm aware! At this point, though, I think I'm beginning to like the idea of embracing this as a technical challenge rather than a predominantly creative one. So I believe I'll take the difficult route for this if I can.

Wasn't infinite replayability one of their design's main pillars though? JW: Those seven things were: approachable, powerful heroes, highly customizable, great item game, endlessly replayable, strong setting, and cooperative multiplayer.

Yeah, there's a lot of truth to that. But still, loans, although less desirable, still suffice to pay for college as well, and those are generally much easier to acquire.

To follow your comparison though, Vindictus was built to be played with others; much of the game depends on interacting with other characters. Later in the game it is absolutely crucial to have friends to defeat the bosses. Diablo 3, I'm not so sure. But it's mainly a problem for me because the series is known for being singleplayer and Blizzard totally flipped the middle finger to that audience. People come to expect single player from Diablo, and it just isn't there. Also to note, Vindictus is FTP, Diablo 3 is a $60 purchase. Buying a $60 game and not being able to play if you're without an internet connection is kind of ludicrous when you compound it with the series's legacy.

Yes, totally. Went through some stuff there on normal and color maps, so going to start on that now. I think that's pretty important and I've never done those before. Tried making a UV map of the gun I just made. Terrible idea! Going to start with something way simpler and work my way up.

Thanks for the ref! I didn't know about that place It is incredibly daunting how much I have ahead of me. I understand all these things pretty well individually & conceptually but I've never actually applied any of this stuff. Oh well, I can always fall back on to billboarding if I can't get up to snuff in time. Oh, and, yes, there has been much Tribes playing In fact I was just playing it. I should play Quake too! Which reminds me that I wanted to try out Nexuiz as well.

so intimidated by this. but I want to do it.
I'm not quite sure where to set my ambition level though. I simply don't have a clue what I'll be able to get done, I've no prior experience to gauge such a thing off of.

First attempt at modeling in a long time. First thing ever in Blender. Made in the spirit of preparing for 7DFPS.

you wouldn't really qualify under the 'able to afford college' if you got aide for it, though. i was speaking specifically of people who are able to pay for college, not of people who get loans or scholarships or financial aide
Sure you do. If you can 'afford college', that means you have some means to pay for it. Why is it relevant whether or not you needed loans or scholarships? Either way you're still going to college. No?

Thanks for the love. In the coming weeks I think I'll be focusing mostly on enemy / environment(from a mechanical perspective) design. [EDIT] Also, yes, capn.lee, sorry for the late response. That banding is indeed due to the gradation of the vignette effect.
