I just asked her, and she says he was 100% honest about it.

Well my world view is shattered.

Achievements are a very simple mechanic. They require hardly any design, are easy to implement and instantly provide the player with motivation and goals. These two, of course, being the Big Problem that needs to be solved in order to allow videogames to evolve from the toy-like things that they are today into the full-blown mature medium that we all know they can become.

The dude that made a game where all you do is be a deer and run through the woods is saying instant motivation is good?

By the way congratulate them on the amazing nightclub-style makeouts when they got that award thing

I am profoundly disappointed this is not a sequel to Sexy Hiking.

This just in, some feature in a videogame has no use but to give you a false sense of accomplishment. Stay tuned for details.

By the way, I'm fairly sure that article is being sarcastic.

I make games because I like testing people. I am Alex Trebek and you are all my little returning contestants.

Ah, jealousy. I mean, why do you care about some "celebrity" making a non-original game? I know NONE of the above mentioned people, so it is you that are their audience, not the world. So why waste time and energy foaming about those individuals? Why are you watching the show in the first place? Hoping to appear there someday or to learn about the latest trends? Or just to bitch and moan about people that appear there?

feels good man

Come on, relax, live and let live. Less negativity, it hampers the process of creativity. At least I don't remember anyone making an awesome game in fit of rage.

That'd be an interesting competition.

... why am I wasting time here, again?  Shrug

Yesss, now you are beginning to understand.
567  Player / Games / Re: Preview of Jason Rohrer's Primrose on: February 18, 2009, 03:09:39 AM
but we've barely had a discussion on whether Primrose is ART yet
568  Player / Games / Re: Preview of Jason Rohrer's Primrose on: February 17, 2009, 10:06:07 AM
it seems to be just a color matching puzzle HOLY SHIT JASON ROHRER MADE IT? THAT MEANS IT MUST BE THE GREATEST THING TO HAVE EVER GRACED OUR SAD GRAY PLANET.

that's right I went there
569  Player / Games / Re: Why On Earth Would You Want To Make Your Own Game If You Already Know The Ending on: February 17, 2009, 04:57:37 AM
If you play the game for the ending, you might as well watch a Let's Play on YouTube.

I actually didn't know the ending (or for that matter the plot) of Eversion until I finished making it and realized it was the only possible ending(s).

when I read 'text parsing platformer' I assumed it somehow read in a generic text file and generated a level from that

Being able to do anything is the right of an indie game maker.

you people should make covers for your opinions since you treasure them so damn much and are sure to parade them in every possible occasion

nice leather gold-titled covers

that's just decent, albeit derivative design.

Ok so it's CLASSIC then.

It shouldn't be "I am VladErmakov". It should be "This is VladErmakov". Wink

yes. "I am VladErmakov" goes on the status under the poster name so people can be quadruply assured that this person writing to them is, in fact, VladErmakov.

angle = atan2(target.y-source.y, target.x-source.x)
speed = 0.5;
source.x += sin(angle) * speed;
source.y += cos(angle) * speed;

I vote for Mausoleum of the Giants, with flanking statues.

The problem is we don't have La Mulana's permission yet.

I propose Mondo Agency's SUBMISSION FIVE with a shouty guy atop the pillar with rotating catwalks underneath.
