on: January 13, 2011, 12:12:10 PM
|
Hey Tigsource, I've been working extra hard this week to get some of the bigger features finished for this game. Like A.I. and infrastructure. So please check on the video and if you like it be sure to vote me up in the kongregate competition in february! Here is the video This week I've been working on A.I., Level editing, a new vehicle (A cool lifter that can carry the ground vehicles to other points on the map), Game menus, and destructible scenery. Also a preview of one of next weeks tasks I've started which is night missions and time of day settings :D The second half of the video contains a time lapse video of me making a basic level layout in about 20 minutes so you can see my process. Thanks for watching!

Hi guys, awesome to read all your comments and feedback! I will answer your questions now: @yajo It uses Unity3D engine @jotapeh Sometime next year .. Aiming for February but its just me on this so it might slip if I think of more must have features @Average Software Game is not based on the movie no. I hadn't heard of it until now, maybe I should watch it @dice you are correct I am / was using alpha blending for the ships engines. I am experimenting with additive shaders now and testing performance on the iPad. Thanks for this tip, it definitely seems like this is the "right" shader effect to use on effects like this! I will try on the explosions and rocket trails aswell and test performance. Will see what happens @Mecha The music in the game is licensed from a company called soundrangers. All audio is made by them. I've spent a good amount on the music for this game! I am a big fan of epic orchestral style music so I thought it was worth it Thanks again

Developer / Playtesting / New Video for my iPad Game "The Core"

Hello everyone, I have a new video of my upcoming iPad space game "The Core". This one is all about planet surface exploration. With this mode in place I've finally finished my universe, you can go from exploring the stars, zoom into the solar system level, then when you've found a planet with something interesting on it you can beam a hologram drone down to the planet and walk around and retrieve items... and its all procedural! So the universe is seriously massive Towards the end of the video I show a little behind the scenes view on my laptop demonstrating the terrain culling and vertex coloring. Thanks for watching guys, I got some great feedback last time and I really appreciate that, I'm hoping for the same again! :D

you guys are good! this forum has given me great feedback, thankyou Will we have to wait for the ship to move from galaxy to galaxy and shoot enemies along the way? That might be a bit boring no?
The travelling between systems is very quick and generally uninterrupted. Think of the combat as a seperate mini game if you will which interrupts the flow of the trading/exploring element when you get attacked or do something to provoke it. buying a warp drive later on would probably be pretty cool. It would tie the player down to one area for the early game and then allow them to do deep exploration when they're out of the crib.
This is exactly how it works you only have a class 1 hyperdrive at the beginning of the game so your limited to a few systems in the galaxy. But as you progress and buy more expensive hyper drives your jump range can take you further into the unknown!

thanks for the feedback guys. Very much appreciated If I understood the video correctly, you can tell the ship where to move to and which ships to fire at but it does it automatically, right?
Yeah your right on the money, the combat is very much RTS with automatic movement but the firing is more manual, it will fire exactly where you clicked so you have to lead your targets if they are moving Can you get more than one ship? Or drones?
This is something I had thought of, you will be able to request ally ships from empires where you have a strong enough relationship. Actually maybe i've misunderstood - I thought it was a fast game like asteroids or geometry wars style game but maybe it's more like galactic civilisations?
The game itself isn't a fast paced action affair, the combat will never be as manic as with the 80 ships on the video, and there is still be some balancing and tweaking to be done Thanks again for the comments!

Hello fellow indy developers and gamers. I have a video to show of my first iOS game currently in development for the iPad. The game is a solo project from me built in unity and is a space trading / combat / exploration game. In the video you can see some combat gameplay and stress tests with up to 80 enemies in battle at one point and also some standard gameplay, trading and planet scanning etc. If this interests you in any way please check out my website in signature for more information or follow @quickfingerz on twitter. comments and criticism more than welcome Thankyou for taking the time to watch! Much love

Hi folks just wanted to post some information on my current game in the work... It's called "The Core". The Core is set in the year 3520, interstellar travel is a reality and we most certainly are not alone. Travel the galaxys core systems (known as "The Core") to over half a million stars, each with unique planetary formations. Every colonised planet has its own market, economy and diplomacy making for an in depth trading game. Trading is only one aspect of the game, the core will also feature real time combat, generative mission system, mining, levelling, ship upgrades and planet exploration modules as well. Once all these modules are in place an immersive story arc will be added alongside the free roaming sandbox play that will be playable at any point during your time in the core. So, that's the outline, onto the game specs: 23 space ships, 15 weapons, 8 different human and alien races, half a million stars, over 1.5 million planets, more upgrades and equipment than I can count, numerous goods for trading. Black market, licensed market, unlicensed third party sellers, relationships, and more! I am targetting the iPad as a platform, my first tests on the device have been very promising I will post gameplay videos on the ipad itself later, but for now here is some screenshots and my latest gameplay video. And the video link Thanks for reading all this mumbo jumbo looking forward to comments, from fellow elite lovers or otherwise

Hello Indie Gamers / Developers! My real name is R2Q-4336 but people call me Quick Fingers. I am a robot from the future. I currently reside in a temporary storage facility in the London area of England and have disguised myself as a 28 year old human male.
I came back in time to 2010 as it is one of the most exciting times for independent game developers. With the success of devices such as the iPhone and mobiles providing people access to games wherever they take their phones, coupled with Nintendos Wii marketing games to people who wouldn't normally play them has made it a possibility that literally anyone can play and enjoy games. There is no "demographic" for games any more. Which is why this time period is the most exciting.
I am taking a "one man army" approach to game development, and trying to achieve great quality commercially acceptable game projects with just a single mind and access to some great technology. Having really quick fingers helps with the coding part. With middlewares such as the Unity3D engine you can achieve very professional results with just one mind, some "quick fingers" and a bit of time.
The iPhone and iPad provide the perfect environment for independent developers to get their work out via the App Store. I will start my journey there. Although I wont be pigeon holing myself to a particular platform or genre. If I game I develop is suiting itself to be a web game or a PC / MAC game, then that is what it shall be.
