61  Jobs / Offering Paid Work / [TAKEN] Need some hi res artwork on: February 13, 2018, 03:16:22 PM
Need 3 characters and a background. Have some character designs from previous works as a guide and a colour palette to (loosely) base it on. Needs to be high res (vector?) for use on title graphics and stuff (need to keep the different items separate though.)

Pays $200 CAD on completion. Please send me portfolios or previous work. Thanks!

Just wanted to say - nice looking game. Best of luck and hope to see it finished one day.

Resurrecting this thread!

I've been working on this game again for the past 1.5 years. It's no longer an open world game, just a regular JRPG. It's about 70% finished now, with about 2 levels left and the final prep work before shipping.

Everything has changed. I salvaged a little bit of code but that's it. Here are a few new screenshots.

It's a fairly simple game with a good message. It also has a "unique" (not sure, unique to me anyway) element in battle with the Vampire attacks. Shortly after starting the game, you obtain two Vampire Pendants and can learn attacks to use with them. When a player character uses one, the other character takes HP/MP damage.

Hopefully the game will be finished this year sometime. I'm doing everything myself except I have a couple people helping with testing.

Another nice aspect of the game is it's size. Currently it's under 2 MB to download and about 3.5 MB installed, with the final product it should be under 5 MB installed on Windows.

Nice! Looks great. I haven't heard back from the guy who is supposed to be doing the cards (waiting to find out an approximate timeline actually...)... so can I contact you if that falls through?

I have found someone to work on the cards.

The issue with using art from the game was that all the game art is in low res pixel art. For another game I tried to use the game art in cards and Valve rejected them because the art was too low res.

Thanks man.

Call me weird, but I care about my games despite if they are making me money or not. I'd be willing to pay for good artwork in this case, just out of love of my job... it's pathetic I know, but I've lost more money than I've ever made on games... hopefully it turns around next time but I'll continue to try and do a good job regardless.

Yes, and the reason for that is the game has been on Steam for a while and is not making much money. 10% for a year could be $100, so if the artist is good it would be worth it. If 10% is more than $100 then colour me surprised, and lucky you...

I would also consider a time-limited profit sharing arrangement in addition to the $50 CAD, e.g., 10% of Steam sales for a year.

Looking for someone to make Steam trading card assets for a game for me. Problem is, I don't have a lot of money (this will be a net-loss project for me, but people are asking for them so I want to do this...) I've got $50 CANADIAN for the whole project. None of the assets can be scaled up pixel art (Valve's rule, not mine.) What that includes is:

5 trading cards - they are 1920x1080 and need to have a 206x184 (scaled down is OK) region for the zoomed out portion.

5 backgrounds - 1920 by at least 600 or so with a black background. If you're clever, you can use the characters from the cards on a black background for these

6 badges - 80x80 same concept for each badge, but each one is an upgrade of the last -- the last one has to be ultra special.

A few emoticons are needed too but I can do those. I know exactly what I want the cards to be -- each one will be a character from the game, you'll need to create a background for them (they could all use the same background.) The 5 desktop backgrounds can each use the same character from the cards on a black background (I'm trying to make this as easy as possible for the artist.) And I have an idea what I want the badge to be, but you'll have to stylize each upgrade -- the last one has to be significantly more special than the others (Valve's rules.)

My offer is low but I'd rather not do this at all if the assets are going to be BAD. I don't expect the best on Steam, but they have to say "Oh that's cute" and not "Eh that looks bad/lazy".

Here's a link to the game: http://nooskewl.ca/crystal-picnic

I will not pay up front or half way. Every time I offer to do so, someone either does nothing and keeps the money or does the easy stuff and takes half. I'm good for the money though, I've paid countless people before and NEVER have nor ever would rip anyone off in any way shape or form. This is my company website: http://nooskewl.ca I've been doing this for a long time now.

If anyone's crazy enough to do this job, please get in touch. Thanks.

Things have slowed mainly because we don't have an artist anymore. So I'm looking for someone to join the team (4 current members). I don't have money to pay anyone but you'll get an equal share of the profits (probably most of that will be when it's finished.) Let me know if you're interested or know anyone or know where I should look! Thanks.

Been a long time since I've posted here. A lot more has been done on the game, though. The most significant thing is we've got an artist working on the team now.

Since the game has always used a synth very similar to the NES for music and sound effects, we decided to match it in the graphics. We're sticking to the NES palette. We're not going to adhere to all the rules of NES graphics, though. Here are some screenshots:

I've added a number of things to make the world more interactive. The core of interactivity is the Action Menu (Tab key), although right now most of the planned options are still unimplemented. The Action Menu will fill with actions based on what objects you're facing. So you can talk (implemented), pick pockets (implemented), pick stuff up (implemented) and so on.

Next step for me is to implement equipment crafting. The game will have a crafting menu where you can make stuff out of stuff you've picked up. No special bench or person needed.

After that, battles (I've been saying that for a while now though.) You'll be able to fight NPCs, too, if you choose to, with various consequences. Your equipment and how you develop your characters will determine their class. So you'll be a better mage if you equip a robe and staff for example.
74  Jobs / Collaborations / [FILLED] [Profit Share] Seeking Pixel Artist for JRPG on: December 01, 2015, 06:32:12 AM
Hello,

I'm Trent from company Nooskewl, and we're working on a new open world JRPG called Monster RPG 3 (it's a sequel to Monster RPG 2.) We've got a good start on the game, and thus far I've been doing the pixel art by myself. However, I'm a good programmer but not a good pixel artist, so I'm having extreme difficulty progressing quickly. For that reason, I'm looking to find someone who can work at least a few hours a week doing pixel art for the game.

The position is a profit sharing job with (so far) myself and two others (I'm doing code, and we have a composer and QA person.) At the moment, the game is up in early access but I don't expect it to make any/much money until closer to release.

The game is an open world type game with JRPG battles. You'll need to make tiles (16x16), characters (16x32), enemies (?x?) and so on. If you're interested I can send you a full copy of the game as it stands right now (it runs on Windows, Mac and Linux x64.) The engine is custom, written using SDL2 and supports Direct3D and OpenGL. I'm an experienced programmer, having worked on numerous commercial projects and written engines and the foundations of engines (http://liballeg.org.)

Please get in touch if you're interested or want more information! Thanks!

Wow these monsters are cool! How long does it take you to make one of those (sorry I have yet to watch the videos)? Eh maybe I'll answer that myself and check them out. Smiley

Stalked you on Twitter a bit a while ago then found this devlog... game looked really good. Very Super Mario World in a way (in a good way...) Most of all it looks like a lot of fun!
78  Community / DevLogs / Re: Monster RPG 3 - Open World JRPG on: September 21, 2015, 07:27:48 PM
Last week I finished updating all the character sprites. Here's a few of them...

The most attention was spent on the main character.

I'm still not happy with some of the other characters but I like the main character for the most part. I'll come back to some of the other ones later.

Our team now has me doing code and graphics, a QA/playtester, a composer and someone doing SFX design. Our composer has created a bunch of tracks already and 3 of them are in the game now. I really like the title music myself. There have also been numerous new features added to the game... you can get drunk, steal cabbages and other little things.

Right now the biggest slowdown is me doing the graphics. I'm neither quick nor very good at it and it takes me a lot of time. But that's OK I guess, I'm not in a big rush with this. The next thing I have to do is populate the town with some people and things, so lots of sprites to be drawn. Should be fun.

I've taken Archgame's suggestion and have a preliminary version with a new palette. It required a fair bit of manual work but I think it was worth it. Here are a few new screenshots:

I created the palette by getting an optimal palette from all the Monster RPG 2 images... which I kind of like. When thinking about what I wanted the game to look like, I thought a lot about Monster RPG 2. I had to change a few colours here and there. I think it looks a lot less like it was drawn with crayons now.

I'll be looking at more of the suggestions next week!

Thanks for all the great tips Archgame! Yesterday I finished everything on my immediate todo list that doesn't involve art, so my next step is doing another pass at all the graphics in the game. I'll surely be using the tips I received here to try to improve them!
