I know some of the guys at Introversion; they're the nicest bunch you could ever hope to meet. Yeah, they made mistakes (something which Paul Eres seems to be incredibly unforgiving about) but, in my mind, it takes a real strength of character to admit when you’ve been wrong
I really hope everything picks up for them. Subversion looks incredible.

I WAS.
I slept like 2 hours the night before, I didn't win my IGF award, and I was about to eat a really sketchy cheese burger from Denny's. IT WAS A LONG DAY.
Denny's gave me the fear. However it was the Sony party that made the fear real. Even free booze couldn’t improve Sony's rotten attempt at fun-mongering

Maybe we should start our own IGF Europe independent of the GDC Europe... This years London's Games Festival is going to have a some indie events, it's still early days but we might be helping put something together ...

Man, that sucks... Dont worry about the Greyhound, I did a 50 hour stint on one a few years back - it was boring as hell and completely uneventful Great seeing you guys at GDC – can’t wait for next year

Developer / Playtesting / Plain Sight Open Beta
|
on: January 21, 2009, 02:36:05 AM
|
EDIT: current download link is down- please go to www.plainsightgame.com/beta for a list of mirrors. Hi Folks, We've just launched the open beta of our first game Plain Sight. What is it? Plain Sight is a multiplayer arcade games that uses death as a tactic, not a punishment. You’re a little robot. You start with one point. You get more points by killing more robots with your sword. As you get more points you get bigger, brighter, faster and better. However, you only get to bank these points if you blow yourself up. The bigger you are, the bigger the bomb. The more people you take out in the explosion, the higher the multiplier to your banked score. Respawn and repeat the process – the player with the highest banked score wins. The game is to be released sometime Q1 2009 on Steam About the beta:
The beta is currently limited to only one game mode (standard deathmtch - as described above)and three levels. The beta will be for 3 to 4 weeks. We'd love to hear your feedback (especially criticism) and suggestions Direct link : http://78.129.232.238/PlainSight_v0_8_1_0.rarCheers Robin

Alright mate, That was my original plan, but I have to wait 48 hours after creating my account to make my first post! As I’m in a bit of a hurry, I thought I'd try my luck with the TIG crowd first Really appreciate everyone’s feedback! If i get any solid figures I'll let everyone know... Cheers

Does not compute.
"Independent" inherently implies that there is no "industry." As such, there is no "industry value." There are no company earnings reports, no shareholders to appease, and basically... no numbers.
Someone would have to contact every independent game dev who sold a game in the last 5-10 years and ask them personally how much they sold. As far as I know there are no figures readily available the way there are with industry companies.
Hey, Thanks for the quick reply! Yes, you're right, this is a major problem! Because of this, I was thinking more along the lines of independent game studios that have been published, rather than bedroom hobbyists. Rather than looking at company reports, I was hoping to use information from publishes. I know some do keep track of % game sales from indie studios however such info is hard to find. An amalgamation of such figures from numerous publishers could give a general overview. Again, hard to find/do.... I was hoping someone might have read an article that had some figures on the indie dev scene.. any other suggestions?

Hi folks, I’m looking for some facts and figures on the indie games industry for a presentation I have to do. As I’m based in the UK, it’d be great if I could find figures for both the UK and globally. I’ve been trawling the internet for a while and have so far come up with very little. There’s probably a website dedicated to such things, I just can’t find it Roughly, what I’m looking for is : what % of dev market is independent (including number of people working in industry, how many games released, value of industry as a whole etc ) and growth over the last 5-10 years. If someone could suggest a site to find such information I’d be incredible grateful! Cheers Robin

A big thank you to Donald for doing all work and getting everyone/everything together. Im certain I'll be seeing many of you guys v.soon Cheers!

we entered Plain Sight, but (as it's still heavily in development) we're really not expecting anything. Honestly, I'm just looking for an excuse to go to San Fran in March Oh yes, can we upload new versions of our game after the 1st November deadline? We're currently working on a few major features - i'd be nice to be judged with those in ! PS: loved Dyson! looks stunning and the gameplay is rock solid - think you're onto a winner there!
