Stuntman. My roomate went through 3 PS2 controllers. They're not nearly as robust as the gamecube controllers, it turns out...
God of War - the last boss fight...or should I say 3 boss fights with no save point? It took like 5 hours to get past that part, because I didn't want to turn off and have to replay any of those ridiculously hard fights...

Hmm.. Did you realise you could control the characters with the arrow keys? I thought I'd made that reasonably plain. Is that a problem anyone else had? I did not realize that, actually, as the instructions explicitly say "use A or D to move left or right." Just assumed that those were the controls!

- Z/X jumps and left right arrow keys... Apart from using X, this seems pretty close to one of the current control schemes, unless you mean being able to press X to switch characters? The main thing here is controlling movement with my right hand, and actions with my left. This is a very standard setup in PC-based platformers and action games, the sole exception being mouse-based games. Years of conditioning have rendered me unable to WASD without a mouse, and likewise incapable of whacking a keyboard jump button with my right hand I had hoped that the "reverse controls" button would put movement on the less-than/greater-than, and put jump on A or D, so that it really was a reverse, rather than just changing what buttons I press with my right hand. Anyways that's the details it's your game, but I suspect I am not the only one who had some trouble getting used to the controls. It wouldn't be a big deal really except the game certainly does reward precision and quick switching/jumping abilities, which are definitely hampered by unfamiliar or alien control layouts.

Maybe not the best example, but I think Minish Cap probably qualifies. A lot of the look of the game was pretty heavily influenced by Wind Waker. Grand Theftendo was the first thing that came to mind as well, but the site appears to be...well in a holding pattern at least. Can't even find the dude's blog anymore. DISCLAIMER: apologies if I wander offtopic here, just something I've been thinking about lately... Also, just want to throw out there that I friggin LOVE the idea of de-makes in general. There are very few games that I think actually benefit in any tangible way from being in 3D; namely racing games, and a subsection of first person shooter and third person platformer games. I think that nearly every other game that has ever been produced since the PS1 and the 3D wankfest began could have been equally engaging in 2D. However, new game designs and new gameplay ideas HAVE emerged since 2D was sidelined to the portable systems, and I love seeing them integrated into traditional tiled games. I also love seeing 2d games with 3d graphics; the viewtiful joes, the treasure shmups, etc. these games warm my heart 2d gameplay is an awesome, beautiful thing, and it deserves to be back in the spotlight again, regardless of the general visual quality.

Great :D It couldn't hurt to distance yourself stylistically from Nifflas a tad more, just for the sake of convenience and avoiding comparisons, as well as banking on your sick pixel art skills a little more The gameplay sounds really fun though, and there is a lot of room for a really awesome story here too, i think!

I think this is totally sweet; just a few suggestions:
1 - Offer a more indie-standard control scheme, of left and right arrow move left and right, and Z or X jumps
2 - Auto-skip the intro if you are replaying the level. If you are really set against that, maybe just make it so pressing any of the game's control keys skips it, rather than setting that to a different key?
3 - I think the run animation should play back a little bit faster
4 - The sound of the footsteps seems to sometimes be pretty far off of the run animation, especially in the opening cutscene. Perhaps you could have a quieter footstep when the player is not moving very far? Since it is the main sound effect, some more attention to that would go a long ways toward polishing the experience I think.
5 - The gameplay is fun, but its not clear nor ever even touched upon why these 2 regular-lookin dudes who are confused about not knowing their own names can wall-jump better than megaman; that seems to come quite naturally to them. I found this somewhat confusing!
That's about it; pretty levels, nice shadow effects, good gameplay, and cool that you're offering new levels weekly; been waiting for that to become a more popular way of releasing web-games!

Re: zelda, the only zelda games that I think of as next-gen updates of LttP are Wind Waker and Phantom Hourglass, and I'm not entirely sure that PH does things that LttP couldn't, aside from the input. That's how it looks to me anyways!
Metroid Prime is a really great update to Super Metroid (but not, of course, to the original Metroid); its practically fan-service.
PoP:Sands of Time is a remarkable update to the original Prince of Persia, and is better I think in every regard. Still love the classic though!

alright, alright, alright. I'll be the asskisser.
Human hugs to Derek and Alec and the various other supporting cast and crew for making such a gorgeous freakin game while running one of my favorite internet forums. Seriously, what could be more hugworthy?
Human hugs to tigIRC for putting up with my crap all the time and being there for feedback at basically any hour of the day. Just having other indies out there somehow helps me remember that the late nights and blurry vision and increasing headaches will so be worth it...
Also, human hugs to whoever it was on tigIRC that said, and I may have this slightly wrong, "Let your games speak for you." This helps me to remember to forget the petty stuff and just remember how great it feels to make a fun game!

i've heard very good things about Tower Bloxx, but I never got around to downloading it. Sounded like a solid game though, with a nice indie vibe. Also I'm a little biased but if your phone can play it, GLU's PGR Mobile is actually a pretty fun racer. Their game Stranded is also pretty sweet, feels like a decent first-gen SNES game.

oooo i had a similar idea but i boiled it down to like a panic moment, where when you've taken the last bit of damage, a little "reroute your systems" minigame pops up, and you have to mix and match and reconnect a few things in a few seconds, and it gives you a little bit of your shields back so you can continue flying...

That's the idea it should do SOMEthing when you use the keyboard though - the default binding for the keyboard side of things is similar to most indie games - arrow keys, z, x, shift, and ctrl should all register as analogs to various wiimote buttons!
