Ate some jam on toast. Delicious, but so much damn sugar.
102  Player / General / Re: How often you use walkthroughs? on: August 19, 2011, 07:54:11 AM
Not very often. I tend to only use them when I'm stuck and don't want to spend an hour guessing my way to the solution. So only really when a game is poorly designed.
Or if I just want to know a few things about what's left for me after I finish the main part of the game. Then I'm not really spoiling anything either.

I used to know a guy who bought walkthroughs for pretty much every game he played. He seemed to think he was getting everything he could out of the game by doing everything they told him. Can only imagine he was spoiling literally the entire game for himself by reading about everything in advance and then just following optimised instructions.

Well absolutely, Killer7 is ace, but my PS2 is in some mystery location within my house and I can't be bothered to find it.

Having finished Shadows of the Damned in 3 days I'm now getting round to actually finishing No More Heroes. It's actually more fun than I remember it being, although perhaps it wasn't as interesting early on in the game.

Ah so many contests at once! But I do like GameJolt and the themes are usually good, I also have an unprecedented amount of spare time of current, so I'm tentatively in for this one.

That's me!

Finished Shadows Of The Damned. Only renting it so not too disappointed by it's incredible shortness.
It was great fun while it lasted though.

I played Majora's Mask for about two hours a few years back and really didn't get into it. Plus I was borrowing it from somebody so I haven't had the chance to try it again since.

It sounds like the kind of game I would enjoy but I can't find it anywhere now to try it anyway.

Please try and have music like that video, too.

Isn't that Nine Inch Nails?

I've started something. It's about a vampire solving a murder mystery.
110  Player / Games / Re: Lollipop Chainsaw on: August 17, 2011, 12:12:21 AM
This looks pretty uninteresting. Like No More Heroes but with a less original theme.

Also I would hope the lollipop plays as significant a role as the chainsaw does.

I very much support this contest and theme.
Also it's nice for people who missed the original to get a shot this time round.
Currently thinking up some ideas...
112  Player / General / Re: What first inspired you to make games? on: August 16, 2011, 10:44:46 AM
I've always wanted to do it. In fact pretty much any form of media I consume I have always wanted to make more of. I would do level designs for Sonic and Metroid sequels as a kid, but never properly got into making games because I simply didn't realise you just could. It wasn't until I was about 15 I found YABASIC for the PS2 and learned some programming and made little shmups that were no fun, then a few years later I discovered Gamemaker.
And then I actually did make games.

Finished watching Secretary then ate beans on toast whilst listening to Cat Power.
Rockin.

Rented Shadows of The Damned yesterday. Played it for a couple of hours, so far it's pretty fun.
115  Developer / Design / Re: Moving and positioning in kinect on: August 15, 2011, 06:07:43 AM
This is one of the key issues I have with Kinect. It's all well and good flailing your arms but it's very difficult to come up with a physical movement for walking around that people can do without it becoming awkward.

Personally I think that movement with Kinect is going to be largely stuck on rails or done through menus, which is a shame really as free exploration is a lot of fun. My view of how to at least give more freedom is to have the player able to pick which rails to move along like in Killer7. Hand gestures or pointing could indicate the path to follow and then perhaps the player strikes some sort of advancing pose such as leaning forwards with one foot in front of the other or something. This would at least give the player more involvement in the act of navigating game levels.

Or perhaps make free movement somewhat more abstract, as in the player has to drive a vehicle in order navigate open landscapes and all interior activity is carried out in a point and click / menu driven style or simply is switches to some other kind of gameplay. It's probably easier to have players manage driving a vehicle with just your arms than try and walk around using them.

Minecraft, Minecraft... makin' stuff in Minecra-aft. Everybody gotta look out for those cree-pers, cree-pers.

 Shrug

Totally unexpected. Awesome.

I just finished Mass Effect 2 which was amazing so now I've gone back to Iji. Just done a Hard mode then a Pacifist Run, now I'm going to go around cracking everything in the game and building amazing guns.
117  Player / General / Re: What are you reading? on: August 12, 2011, 01:59:50 AM
Twilight. I'm not sure why. Although I am struck by how often Bella Swan is dumbfounded by a devastatingly handsome gentleman just putting his face in her line of sight.
118  Player / General / Re: Which other forums do you visit? on: August 12, 2011, 01:57:41 AM
I usually spend a couple of weeks of the year hanging out on Gaia in the Gaming Discussion, but most of the regulars I liked there are long gone.
Aside from that it's just this place.
119  Player / General / Re: What percentage of games that are started actually get finished? on: August 12, 2011, 01:53:39 AM
I probably finish about 5% of my projects.
I have a pretty limited attention span.
