PROTIP: Go to the "Competitions" sections and subforums "Assemblee: Part 1" and Part 2. Everything there is made with something called a "Creative Commons License;" it's all open-source in exchange for open-source projects, if I understand it correctly. But yeah, I feel ya! XD

I love all of those assets to death and I'll parrot what you said for the benefit of anybody skimming this forum: Go check out the Assemblee stuff. Seriously. You'll do yourself a disfavor if you dont.

That said: There's nothing like having a dedicated sprite artist that works on your game idea with you. It's a beautiful thing, having a person who just wants to make art with a person who just wants to code.

What is the criteria? I've made tonnes of games that are playable but are without features I would have liked to add.

Whichever one you think is the first one you've completed. If you can't decide, then none of them :>

We seem to have similar tastes in avatars.

Sounds cool. Party games are always a load of fun.  Smiley
5  Player / General / Re: Panera Bread "Pay What You Want" on: July 01, 2010, 10:27:19 AM
They have some good sammiches and sometimes you can get a loaf of still-warm bread, but overall it's rather overpriced (e.g. I think their cheapest sandwich is about 6.50 ?)

I don't think I'd feel bad paying half price for a sandwich. Getting a couple of semi-ok sandwiches that you can make at home costs like 20 bucks. Money's a little tight for me, so it'd be the only way I'd be able to go to Panera's and not feel like I'm throwing my money away.

i asked my physics/science advisor for my games about this

Aw man, i want a physics/science advisor. It'd be like in civ 2 with those awesome little advisor movies.

We recommend you research THE WHEEL.

Today I got PB winterbottom, Theif Deadly Shadows and Bioshock all for 10 bucks

Thank you so much for mentioning that Theif is on sale. I love Theif so very much and it's so hard to find. At 3 bucks, the price is right for a peice of original stealth-shooting fun.

I made a two-player tank game with infinitely respawning enemies and a fake AI system that was mostly random. It didn't matter since the only people that played it were me and my brother, and we had a good bit of fun for the amount of work I put into it.

I always turn off in-game tips and either skip or rush through the tutorials. The only one I can think of that I liked was Army of Two: 40th Day, and that was because it was also part of the game. Also, being two-player didn't hurt. Most things are tolerable when you have your buddy with you.
10  Developer / Design / Re: What disturbs you in games? on: July 01, 2010, 07:39:33 AM
in multiplayer games it's kind of unnerving / disturbing how angry random internet people get when they lose -- for instance in starcraft 1 and even 2 i've been regularly accused of hacking and called all sorts of names even though i've never said anything and just played well. i know that this isn't anything in the games themselves that's disturbing, but that people who should be playing games for enjoy themselves instead get so angry when they lose kinda qualifies as a disturbing thing about games

I agree, especially if you play any of the "-craft" games. I hated playing Warcraft 3 because you can't get halfway through a game without some man-child calling you every sort of racist name he can think of. It's disturbing and really creepy. Why play a game that makes you so angry?
11  Community / Creative / Re: Keyboard Control Poll on: July 01, 2010, 07:22:27 AM
I like ZXC and Arrow Keys, because it's nice and easy to explain, and it gives you plenty of space between your fingers.

I also like ASD and Arrow Keys for movement, for the same reason.

WASD and mouse is ok, but if I'm playing an MMO I always change it to ESDF, so I can get more hotkeys, and I think it's a little more convenient anyways.
12  Community / Creative / Re: Today I created... on: July 01, 2010, 07:19:47 AM
Today I fleshed out the knife-fighting system in my game, although I still have a little work to do and my spriter isn't done with my hero, or the background. No rush, though, we still have three weeks.
13  Community / Creative / Re: While You Work on: July 01, 2010, 07:18:28 AM
When I work, I drink water constantly until the sun sets, then I either drink beer, scotch, and gin + juice. My productivity then skyrockets and I get a lot of stuff done.

Also, I either listen to thrash metal or andrea bocelli, depending on my mood. If I'm making a faux-retro game, I'll listen to a lot of the music on 8bitpeoples to get a good inspiration.

It's certainly better than my first game.

I like it!
15  Developer / Playtesting / Re: Turn-based, rail-building, cannon-shooting, WIP on: June 29, 2010, 07:37:53 PM
You should specify that it's two player only. I downloaded it, expecting a one player versus AI with missions sort of thing.

I'll post further feedback as I play more.

I can't tell you how much I wanted to do this one. I really like the art. It screams badass 80s adventure rpg so loud, I can hear it through my monitor.
17  Community / A Game by Its Cover / Re: [AGBIC] Dagion on: June 29, 2010, 11:35:14 AM
I was so hoping somebody'd do this one.

Of course, when I first saw it, I thought it said "DAGON" and was much more excited, but the cart itself is pretty cool, too.
18  Community / A Game by Its Cover / Re: [AGBIC] Rainbow Watcher on: June 29, 2010, 10:56:26 AM
That sounds pretty ambitious for a single month. Hope you can pull it off.
My Word! Wot wot?

Anyways, it's not so bad; Most of the gameplay is going to be centered around the travel between two planes and the knife fighting, which I have a pretty good mental picture of. We'll try to get the rest of it, but the further down the list it is, the less concerned any of us are about it.

If the game ends up being rather linear instead of open, none of us will have any hurt feelings, you know what I mean? And if the psychic powers aren't upgradeable, etc.

I appreciate your good wishes, though. I'm hoping we can pull this off, too.

Yes, we used to use the Orange famicase but we've decided to go with a case that gives us just a tiny bit more direction. Also, don't be afraid to post ideas, feature requests, questions, complaints, etc. We like input!

I'm so glad somebody's claimed this one! It looks like so much fun.
