This looks pretty interesting. You seem to have a good grasp of how to make things look good with just two colors. I'm looking forward to seeing it in motion...

Ugh, I have windows 7 64 bit, and it's giving me a black screen after the little intro. I can play it in compatibility mode, but then there's no music. Any solutions?

The only thing I remember about SaGa frontier is that it seemed like a whole bunch of really short versions of a game. Other than that I remember nothing. The only thing I remember about the FF9 final boss was who it was.

Hidden / Game Club / TIGS Game Club: Hydorah
|

Okay, so now we're playing: What: Hydorah is an old-school-style horizontal space shooter made by Locamalito, who are known for other greats such as L'Abbaye des Morts, Viriax, Verminest, 8 Bit Killer and others. The soundtrack is worth mentioning and is by Gryzor87. How Long: Since shmups (depending on skill level) can potentially be beaten in one sitting, we probably only need about a week, unless there are secrets or unlockables that I don't know about yet, or if I have completely misjudged the game. Where: You can download Hydorah absolutely free from Locamalito's Website (the download link is at the bottom). That's it. Go play it.

Yeah, being good at one thing is a poor excuse for being bad at another.
Life isn't an RPG where the programming class can't equip the paintbrush, and where if you put all your points in art you are unable you upgrade your logic.
Actually it's kind of worse. There are only so many hours in a day, and what you fill them with pretty much dictates what you're great at. If that's 20 hours of programming a week and you can only fit in a half hour of art, your art's going to suffer. And if you leave a skill alone for a while, you'll get worse at it. That being said, if you have the time, there's no reason why you can't get better. Unless there is. But usually all you need to do is put in the time.

Several years ago, I tried reading Neuromancer, but it just didn't click with me for some reason. I either just didn't like the noir feel of it, or else I just wasn't able to embrace it with all the words that Gibson made up. Anyway, I started reading it again recently and after pushing through the initial part, I got used to it and I'm really warming up to it. I'm at the part right now where he first made contact with the AI and it's get really exciting. Glad I stuck with it this time.

Woo, finally beat it! After I got about 2/3rds of the way through, things were getting too ridiculous to do on their own, but I still only used the wiki sparingly at that point. The game is very long and deceptively so. I think my time came in at about 31 hours, and I'm not sure that includes the times that I died and restarted. I really love the puzzle aspect of the game, although if I were to do it, they wouldn't be quite so cryptic or incomplete. I found that some puzzles you had to solve using some experimentation which seems to go against the nature of the game, which is that you should stop and think before doing things. All in all, a very good experience, though.

Hidden / Game Club / The Late April La-Mulana-Replacing Possibly-Freeware Vote Thread

People expressed interest in making another voting thread, so here's one why not. Please direct your votes thuswardly. Some people want freeware games to play, but as I look through the backlog thread, I don't see many. Therefore, I say let the ayes have it!
==Same basic rules as last time==
I'm voting for the same games I did last time, Seiken Densetsu 3 and Planescape:Torment, which leaves the results so far at:
Hydorah: 7 Umihara Kawase: 4 Barkley Shut Up and Jam Gaiden: 3 Seiken Densetsu 3: 2 Pathologic: 2 Planescape: Torment: 1 Shadowrun: 1 Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts: 1

You haven't wasted enough time today: Play Parameter http://nekogames.jp/g.html?gid=PRMThe black boxes are missions. Click them to perform them. Don't forget to mouseover the numbers that pop out because that's your money and EXP. If you get stuck try buying a key. Goodbye, last two hours of my life. I hardly knew ye.

I started trying one of these in order to help out Ashkin, but I think it would be a good tool to maintain/improve my c++ chops. Count me in!
