Developer / Technical / Re: Trying to make sense of this shader article [occlusion]

They suggest storing the floats in a "writable buffer".
I believe you can render the floats to texture, maybe the same way you write the z-depth to the texture(via shader) in shadow mapping or dof shader. But, like the article said, since it was created in the GPU, the buffer wont have any mip chains so you have to create the mip itself. The compute shader... Isn't it what they use in CUDA and PhysX?

If you use GIMP, you'll have an option that let you: "Save colour values from transparent pixels" Enabling the option will most likely solve your problem(along with coloring the transparent part)

IMHO, in remake, the developer get a hold of the game that's being remade, thus they still can use the same title, assets, style, etc, from the original game. While clone game, the devs don't get a hold of the IP. In Rip-off, well.. it's a rip-off...

Doom is a remake of contra? And what differs 'remake' and 'clone'? (I just finished reading the 'clone wars' between ninja-fishing and radical-fishing)

I think you should put the grass layer on top of the wall layer, and have the grass floor stick out a little. Other than that, it's great, I still can't find where the tiles 'tile' Judging from your interface layout, the player will wander the dungeon alone right?

Nice, cute graphic. I do feel that the style is screaming pokemon a lot. Judging from the video, I expect the game will be too easy since you don't have to worry about timing and landing your jump since the wave affect the whole length of the platform.

Now that you've mentioned it, you're right... WTH did I was thinking when I choose that snap font . Oh, and it's a good thing about the shadow too, I knew that I missed something*doh* Well, thanks for your feedback, it will be useful for the next game(I think I can fix this game and resubmit it to sponsor)

Just played the game on kongregate... Skipped the tutorial(as always) and got stuck on the game don't know what to do I guess it's a good practice to 'force' the tutorial to player at least for the first play. Many good games integrate the tutorial seamlessly into the gameplay(something I always fail to do). Though, the graphics are superb that I feel sorry no sponsor pick up your game. How unusual, sponsor usually get interested in game with good looking graphics like your. Well, anyway, I hope you have a good luck next time. It looks like you're using flixel engine/wrapper, and hey, me too

Holy... That's sweet Is it realtime 3D or prerendered? [EDIT] Oh, it's realtime 3D, nice... A good combination of realtime 3D graphic with old style gridded movement dungeon crawler.

Ok, this is really great, I love jagged alliance series so I do love this game. I enjoyed the challenge the game offered me, it seems my team is always outgunned by the aliens, which doesn't even carry any gun I played on normal and always finished the mission with next to empty guns, I cant imagined if I play it on Hard, I guess this is the first true team-based-turn-based-survival-horror game [EDIT] Just figured what's bugging me(except those aliens trying to eat my troops )... The game screen is too big, I have to scroll up and down to see the game area and the UI. How about blending the game UI with the game area, like using transparent UI and wrap them in some unused spot, it might affect some 'clickable' things in the game but I think it will look cooler to have integrated UI.

This is very cool. The style is like nothing I ever seen, it's hexgrid in a isometric(?) world. Agree with eArtist, there should be an option to skip the tutorial(or maybe I missed that one). I had this bug every time I move in the first mission(when I was told to move to the ladder). Running on FireFox 3.618 and FP11 Incubator ArgumentError: Error #2025: The supplied DisplayObject must be a child of the caller. at flash.display::DisplayObjectContainer/removeChild() at classes::Scenario01/=R()[D:\Flash\Projects\Prototype (version preloader)\src\classes\Scenario01.as:383] at flash.events::EventDispatcher/dispatchEventFunction() at flash.events::EventDispatcher/dispatchEvent() at HxClasses::^2/dispatchEvent()[D:\Flash\Projects\Prototype (version preloader)\src\HxClasses\EventCentral.as:33] at HxClasses::89$/dispatchEvent()[D:\Flash\Projects\Prototype (version preloader)\src\HxClasses\Hx.as:119] at classes::Char/updatePM()[D:\Flash\Projects\Prototype (version preloader)\src\classes\Char.as:468] at classes::Char/bouge()[D:\Flash\Projects\Prototype (version preloader)\src\classes\Char.as:366] at classes::@A/?,()[D:\Flash\Projects\Prototype (version preloader)\src\classes\CharPJ.as:152]

for option 1 and 3, I would recommend social feature implemented in your game. You can choose to try facebook, which is already filled with a high budgeted games, or the brand new google+ API.

Developer / Technical / Re: WTF was I thinking when I coded this. What to do?
|
on: August 05, 2011, 08:41:37 PM

I remember writing these sort of clusterfscks when drunk. The thing is, when you code while drunk, you wake up and the code performs amazingly, but you don't understand it sober! ... At least, this has been my experience Then, when you want to continue your work or just want to understand how it works, just get drunk again Back to the question: If you're sure you can finish it as it is, well go ahead and finish it. If it's a game, players don't care how it get done as long as it's fun.
