I got linked to this by Christoffer and I'm super into the idea!  I've been working on a sidescroller arcade game (posted a feedback thread here: http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=18996.0).  I've got a working version of the game right now, but hopefully I'll be able to refine the idea some more before the deadline.  Can I submit this?
Of course! We'll show it to the people in milan and give you more feedback. It looks very cool (how did you get that rendering in unity?)

@Theophilus
what do you mean you can't think of anything? it would be cool if you could actually see the rails and jump from one to the other.

italian devs have started posting their concepts over at Indievault
I can speak it fine but reading and writing in Italian gives me a head-ache Concerned I guess I miss the gesticulation  Tongue

I want to see if I can make a super-minimalist strategy game between now and the end of the event. It will use no sprites whatsoever, only vector-based mathematical shapes. I'm thinking of calling it "simplex wars"  Smiley
Sounds cool: it would be even more interesting if you could make a graphic-only based GUI.

We pray for your salvation Christoffer!

I guess that's... good enough.  Shocked

Being indie is hard and dangerous!

Speaking of which: italian devs have started posting their concepts over at Indievault, let's see if we can make them post here too.

I am working on something for this. Pray for my persistence!

OK maybe you've heard about this, maybe not!
We are organizing a jam in Milan (Italy!) next week, precisely the 16th and 17th of April.
At the same time we are opening it to everyone that wants to participate remotely.
The theme of the jam is LINES, you can find everything you need here: http://www.lunarcade.it/
and some reference materials here: http://www.lunarcade.it/reference&press.pdf
(we forgot to mention Vib Ribbon  Lips Sealed )

If you want to join us you can use this topic to post whatever you are working on.
You are encouraged to work on your project before the actual jam starts so that what you make can be an inspiration for those that participate in person. Alternatively you can join us in real time: we'll set up a chat room and continue to post stuff in this topic during the jam.

We will show every game posted in this thread to the people passing by in Milan: remember that it's Milan Design Week (biggest design fair in the world i think!) so there is a good chance that we can get lot's of random people to try your game.

Let's do this TIGpeople!

47  Community / Jams & Events / [APRIL 16/17] Milan LUNARCADE FACTORY Theme: LINES + join from home on: March 31, 2011, 03:32:34 PM

Hello everybody! We are pleased to announce that we are organizing a beautiful game jam here in Milan, Italy!
We welcome everybody that wants to join us designing board games and videogames for two days. The guys from cranio creation will participate as well!

This jam has a theme: LINES ! you can find everything you need on the website:

or you can download the reference materials directly from here: DOWNLOAD PDF

The idea is that you can join from home, if you can't come to Milan: you can start your game now, at the end of the jam we will show everything you make to the people there.

APRIL 16 & 17 is during "design week" in Milan, so we expect lots of passers by that will be able to try your games if you wish so.

I'll be sending a PM to melly and ask if we can open a topic in the TIGprojects forum.

Please be jamming w/ us!  Epileptic

Hello guys just wanted to tell you that we are working on a standalone release for this game and that in the coming month we are adding crazy stuff like local multiplayer :D

We are also changing the color of the dots to... transparent purple! Yes this is big news. Also we've finally listened to your complaints and changed the collision detection so that the gema is now more easy and forgiving.

We'll keep you update with screens and sketches!

I really liked the visuals and art in this one.

I thought the racing mode was way more playable than the arena mode and a longer version of the race mode with more maps (or more players) sounds intriguing.

Would love to build on it: it would be cool to have a track & glider editor, if anyone wants to join us please send a pm!

A very neat game and one of the few (only?) racing games in the compo.

Our group couldn't really get the hang of battle. We liked the controls system but couldn't get used to it before we lost interest. I don't think any of us actually ever won battle mode when the other person wasn't afk or not paying attention.

Our group much preferred race mode and though it should be above battle on the menu Grin.

That said, we felt racing could be made more interesting somehow. Maybe some way for the person behind to catch up. Our ideas naturally gravitated to existing solutions like the item system like Mario Kart, but we all agreed some other unique thing would be better. (Unfortunately none of us really had any ideas for what).

Also, we played the whole time without knowing there was a boost button!

Very neat visual effects. The pixelation must be some kind of pixel shader? (Kind of a pun in this case). Also known as a post-processing shader? It turned out well, I think.

Thanks for making the game!

thank you for playing! The effect is actually a render to a low res dynamic texture that is then seen by another (hi res) 3d camera: the result is basically a low res render of the game (256x128 if I'm not mistaken)

Thank you for the suggestions: it's true it's very hard to win a match if the two players have the same skill/experience. it should be easier to make mistakes I guess.

We're totally looking into adding features to the racing mode if we get back to this! I agree that powerups & energy lanes are too cliché

@theon: I'm sure you can easily learn how to use unity as a level editor, you should give it a try.

Wow, this is great!!
Delicious tunes coupled with neon aliasing and challenging gameplay... Hand Thumbs Up Right

I'd like to suggest a tron/pizzaworm/snake-mode, though. I have the feeling that it would be even better (and matches wouldn't last so incredibly long).

thank you! tron mode and dogfight were planned but did not make the cut, would be fun to add! Do you think this could be an open project where everyone can contribute with modes/glider models/levels?

Increpare, Terry Cavanagh, Sophie H and I tried this game for a while. Here's what we thought.

- gorgeous - love the style, plus low res chunky 3D.
- plays okay?
- lack of proper 321GO annoying
- some sort of slipstreaming/boost system would have been fun
- played for a while, tried all modes.
- one player felt they were slower than the other at one point, perhaps hard to gauge your speed.

One cannot ask for a better team of testers! : D

Thank you for all the suggestions, 321go is a must, will totally add it if we work on the game more.
I wonder if you noticed that there actually is a boost button, but it's not explained in the game (...) if you download the standalone you can set it to whatever button you want - default keyboard is "0" for player1 and "1" for player2

Thank you for playing: the four of you should document you testing sessions!

We're having a versus compo party this friday :D

Us too, more like a marathon.
54  Community / Versus / Re: Sooo... how many of you have ditched the online mode to meet the deadline? on: March 11, 2011, 02:19:11 AM
We had an online demo running but it was so buggy that we scratched it and invested the last few hours in building a fake AI for practice SP mode.
55  Community / Versus / Re: ALIANTE! [FINISHED] on: March 02, 2011, 11:55:04 AM
Yes it's a bit hard! But you can do it! :D i know I know... but if you get to kill the Ai than you are ready to challenge your friends  Tiger

please let me know if you finally get to try it with people, thanks everybody for your feedback.

AH the low res effect is achieved through render to texture where the texture is a very low res one!
56  Community / Versus / Re: ALIANTE! [FINISHED] on: February 28, 2011, 09:36:10 AM
Thank you for the suggestions. We plan on expanding the game if there is enough interest (we even toyed around with a shooting mechanic, you can see traces of this in the keyconfig window in the standalone).

Anyways here is a short video of the game for those of you that hate unity/are on linux/ are on you work pc:
