I've not played myself but the people behind a Civ4 mod I play seemed mostly a bit frustrated. What they've posted is that it's got a promising game in there but was released before it was ready. Might be getting there with this patch though  Shrug

You know, I think I got it off google image search, but I don't remember exactly where I found it. The filename is industry-cache-wallpapers_4775_1280x800.jpg if that helps.

It does, thankyou. The site has quite a few though they all seem to be widescreen resolution.

@mcc That's a gorgeous photo. Did you get it online or was it taken by you or someone you know?

Ah, thankyou for taking the time to tell me what I was doing wrong ^^
I contacted the support and they were equally helpful and very quick.

A paid up for this this-morning and still no sign of the email they mentioned  Undecided
Anyone else received it late or very slow?

Bonus points for covering all the bases and being funny while doing it  Hand Clap
Not my thing for a number of reasons, but I'll leave it at that and recommend that people make their own decisions. At least read the screenshots... seriously, do it.

What the heck, let's see if I've managed to sort out ImageShack...

I used to change my desktop about once a week but I've had her there for almost a year now. I always get sick of a busy desktop really quickly.

This is a really interesting idea but the way the character handles could use some work.
The repeating jump is really awkward to work with, especially with the stack of pushable blocks in 'The Basics'. I'm used to variable-height jumping so I'm in the habbit of holding down the key until the peak of the jump and as soon as the block you've jumped at begins to shift he's off again.
More importantly there seems to be some confusion with the collision detection when movable blocks are involved. Particularly with that same point, the character occasionally shifts very suddenly from beside a block to on-top of it, mostly when the blocks are only slightly misaligned.

I'm afraid I'm hopeless at feedback so I'm having trouble explaining the issues clearly. The basics of it seem good but the platforming could use a bit of polish, it still feels a bit more like fighting the engine than playing the level.

This is a really nice gesture. Unfortunately I'm cleaned out after christmas shopping but I hope you get a good response.

Ultimately you're still downloading it, whether as a zip file or as temporary files stored by your browser. I don't play a huge volume of browser games but 64meg sounds huge for one. If you could find a way to reduce the size players could start sooner (and be less likely to get bored waiting for a long load and give up) or play through more smoothly, depending on the way Yoyogames works.

I'm enjoying reading the OT discussion but, since it obviously has legs, would it be worth splitting the thread so the projects can be discussed separately to the factual and political discussion?

Ah, that problem likely still stands. I've not played it myself so I don't know how it might be worked around.

Last T-shirts I bought were the ones Sara Sandberg designed for Nifflas (Link). They're pretty simple and don't come in XL but I love the Knytt one.

IIRC scrolling stages are supported. Would it be possible to have a scrolling stage that looped on itself so as to appear endless?

If that could be done and the obstacles pseudo-randomised it could make a pretty convincing canabalt stage, providing it doesn't require too much work.

I've just looked at the first post and if Mia's still lacking a suggestion she could "charge" for ~1s then fire a projectile, as she does on holding CTRL with full health in the game.

I'd be pretty lousy at describing it any better but I could crop down a few screenshots to illustrate if you're not familiar with it.

Edit: Eugh, could anyone suggest a halfway decent image-host? Couldn't upload to photobucket, hopefully imageshack'll do for now.

1. She crosses her left arm over her chest, looks up and closes her eyes.
2. She levitates off the ground while her "weapon" grows. While she's fully "charged" and the button's held, a tiny lightning-bolt intermittently forks off the weapon.
3. When the button's released she swings her weapon down and left (her left) which launches a fireball ahead of her.

It seems to take about half a second in-game but she could be made to wait for watever length of time seems appropriate. Also, the "weapon" (a small, yellow triangle similar in appearance to a gas-flame, at the start) gets larger as it's upgraded in the course of the game but I don't have any late saves to demonstrate that.

AnotherEdit: Remembered two of the thrown weapons and found out about one other. She finds Daggers (straight trajectory), Hammers (travel in an arc) and tridents called Mojaks (I think) which also travel in a straight line but can stick into walls and be used as platforms.

[..]Some more hunting around has offered up the Sigil as a possibility.

It turns enemies it kills into bunnies so it could offer a more memorable effect at the cost of a little more spritework (a bunny walk-sprite). On the flip-side it could be pretty irritating for anyone on the receiving end.
138  Player / General / Re: Looking for gamepad suggestions on: December 02, 2010, 10:13:16 AM
I spent years passively "looking out" for a gamepad I liked and had no luck at all, they all had something I really hated. In the end I just picked up a couple of PS2 controllers and a cheap adapter and couldn't be happier. I guess they're a bit limited by current standards but you could choose just about any alternative console.

I don't have a mac so I'm not sure if it'd be harder to sort out than on a PC, though.

140  Community / Townhall / Re: Legacy Forest - Short Action RPG on: November 24, 2010, 08:10:23 AM
It's definitely overkill but at the same time, it's pretty cool and I plan to use it for other little games, particularly more actioney ones as the current project (Diver After Coral) is really a wierd story-based game without any action at all.

Yeah, sounds over-engineered beyond but it's certainly even more impressive for hearing how it was done. I'd not considered before how much the character animations could do to convey personality and set a mood; and given how much time the player spends watching them it's not a bad place to try something novel or unusual.

I'll be interested to see what you come up with in the future  Smiley
