Developer / Playtesting / Re: Kot in Action Pre Alpha

Some stats: I have the survey link in this page attached to an analytics system. 111 clicks on the link 36 from Facebook 21 from TIGSource 7 from Twitter 200 views and 10 responses to the TIGSource thread (this thread ) 17 actually filled out the survey 3 finalized getting into the alpha by signing NDA, getting into forums etc. Is this an average response rate or is there anything you can see from these stats as to what could be optimized? I need to post on Reddit. Are Digg, Stumbleupon, Slashdot, Technorati, Delicious, Quora worth it? Anywhere else? (Forums, lists, IRC channels, social networks, etc)

If your parents are willing to sign an NDA you can join. The game will not always require an NDA though. As far as a blog - not yet - maybe soon. I will post here if there are major updates.

Would the Hunger Games make a good video game?
Could it provide the actual purpose of the series or would it just be mindless killing like most?
Seems like a series that could really be used in the "make moral choices" type of gameplay (though of course I know it is a huge license and nothing an indie will get most likely)

Hello all, We are doing a prealpha for a new game, we've had ~32 people trying early builds for a couple months and I'm now expanding the playing field to 300 (currently 255 slots left). http://goo.gl/I8IZs is our signup form. If you like tanks, giant robots, arena combat, and shmups you might like this game. This is a full on closed prealpha test to determine if it's worth going forward with development of this title. If anyone has any questions please feel free to contact me at michael.lubker at kot-in-action.com or on Steam at zratchet Thanks ~Michael Lubker Bizdev and Community Manager Kot in Action Creative Artel

Hello,
I'm Michael Lubker, bizdev and community manager for Kot in Action Creative Artel's Steel Storm. I also do some design, production, and QA from time to time.
I've also been involved with several other indie and open source game projects including the shipped titles Purify Puzzle, The Sims Castaway Stories, Supreme Commander (X360), and 1701 AD Gold.
I've been playing computer games since the Commodore 64 and developing seriously since around 1998.

Are there any forums you go to other than here and GameDev.net to get feedback or ask questions about game or gamedev related stuff?

Argh - didn't have reply notification for this thread! Glad to hear this - did you get the game yourself - any IDs I should be looking for in forums or groups? Sorry for the necrothread , though I should note we've had several patches and been in HIB3 since this thread was posted and we are now working on DLC.

A very nice trailer could help. Or even better an awesome demo\sneak peek, I remember preordering Recettear as soon I tried the demo for example
PS Steelstorm is awesome!
Glad you liked the game! Are you on the Steam forums or group at all?

We did a lot of this for Steel Storm and though general player-base feedback has been good it managed to get a 55 on Metacritic I'm not sure yet exactly what we'll change in the future, but I have come to the conclusion that Metacritic is 1) extremely frustrating and 2) doesn't really matter that much. We're currently selling pre-orders of a game that was completely unknown when we started (same for our studio). We're pretty happy with the sales and the attention it gets. Here's what worked for us: - We've made sure we've got a pretty website we can use as a basis for promoting our game. - I promoted the game heavily on our website and various forums, released many pretty screenshots and other materials. - We prepared a short but polished preview version of the game. - Sent screenies and the preview build to many gaming websites, asking for a preview, interview or at least a mention. - Done the above for a while, building traffic and some hype. - When the game was known and it's development advanced enough, we prepared and a longer preview version. - We launched pre-orders. Purchasers enjoy lower price, get to play the preview build, can affect development through feedback on our forums, and will be sent the final game before the official release. Worked pretty well.

Those are other small-team games Paradox is releasing - they seem to be picking up a lot of indies (Magicka, Mount and Blade, the Penumbra team's early releases, etc)
Also I forgot 0 AD - they *have* an alpha and are open source, but I think they have a good amount of anticipation for when the game is done.
