Community / A Game by Its Cover / [AGBIC] The NinthRune: The Long Quest of Ancient Antology

Inspiration: Description: So, just looking at this screamed to me: Old school Adventure/RPG. So what I want to do is make an adventure game, of the Legend of Zelda vein, sprinkle in some RPG mechanics, and have a game. It'll most likely not have turn based battles, and instead, you'll be killing stuff outside of battles. More of course, to be detailed at a later date. The game itself will probably just be called The NinthRune

So wait, I can't even flip right facing sprites left?
Also, can we use a pre-created font, or does it HAVE to be one created in Asemblee part 1?

Yes. Yes you are. But it's a gonna cost you a money.
I can think of plenty of run-n-guns, like Carnivac and some Fallen Angel games. I'm pretty sure you're just not looking very hard. I'm positive you'd find plenty in the TigDB alone.
I suppose I should've looked harder, though it seems my look through tigdb wasn't thorough enough. the style of his games is based on run and gun games even though there isn't an actual gun -- besides, many traditional run and gun games have no gun, like silhoutte mirage (which has some type of magic blast).
if you just want games with a gun where you run, there's iji, cave story, and many others (many posted above by authentickaizen)
Well, I do enjoy Noitu love, and have already played them. I really can't think of a classification of them, they are pretty much run n guns, like you said. I really should've taken that into consideration. list of games
Why thank you good sir. Thanks for the posts gentlemen.

you've never heard of konjak, have you? Which of his games? I don't think Noitu Love would count if that's what you're hinting at. Are there guns in it? Just checked his site...I don't see any run n' guns...Am I missing something??

I don't see a lot of run n' gun games, I mean besides Alien Hominid, I can't think of any. I'm looking for games that are like metal slug. I really enjoy these kinds of games, and it's a shame I know of none(If there are any out there, which I assume there are). But yeah, run n' guns.

I hate Pokemon Snap because the concept itself isn't that great to begin with. Now, with this idea already not being that great, it is then poorly executed with a moving vehicle that you have limited control of(In the beggining you have no control over it) to take pictures of constantly moving pokemon. Now, I realixe this is of course, the main chellenge of the game, but I think if you could have control over the vehicle just a little more, i.e. maybe stopping, then taking pictures would become more bearable. Now, once you manage to get the shots(If you should happend to get any good ones) then they evaluated, for every pokemon there is a best shot, and once you get that, there's nothing else left for you to do, except of course, take more pictures, all of which will never be as good as the best. Not so great gameplay(Not to mention boring) mixed with a none-too-great to start with concept makes Pokemon Snap, my least favorite game ever. (Posting because I fell Melly's post was somewhat directed to me )

I completed the demo in around 1 hour 30 minutes-ish and I found nothing too difficult at all. And I'm not even that good at videogames. I could think of some sugestions but you've stated them for the most part, but here you go anyway... -Grappling hook. Altough I picked up the mechanic quickly, I'm sure others might not have, however, you've already mentioned a tutorial...So yeah. -Give some sort of simple, not too detailed idea of where you should go after saving the mayor. As you said, the game is about exploration, and I understand that; but you can have them explore while giving them a small nudge in the right direction. Lucky for me, I stumbled on past Underside City, and into the cave. -One little part irked me though...When you activate the switch, and the moving platforms start working, that part tripped me up, not for long, but needless to say, it got me. And you mentioned a shortcut back, so the problem will dissapate. I love the Underside, and thouroughly enjoyed the demo(Put in an extra hour to be sure I didn't miss anything) and am glad to see such amazing progress being made. Keep up the good work.

Just finished, and all I can say is that The Underside serioused itself up at the end.(I do quite enjoy the sillyness though, and it's not like I don't like it or what not, the serious part just surprised me.)
Can't wait for it to be finished.

I'd really only get the Lite/Phat if you're big on GBA games(And don't have Nintendo's greatest creation ever, the GBA SP) or you just want to spend less.
If you're not concerned with either of those, you may as well get the DSi.

I played video games all the time when I was 7 and from then onward, and the most satisfying thing I did was figure out what I was supposed to do after Inside the Great Deku Tree. Of course, as simple as it is, I never figured out or bother to check what Navi had to say. From then on, I progressed through the rest of the game, and beat it. In general, overcoming seemingly difficult tasks that I get stuck on forever, and then finally succeding.

When I saw Epic games go up, I expected another shooter(Imp was none to happy himself when they came up) and they talked, and then I heard, Xbox Live Arcade Game, then, they said something along the lines of, 'greats like Metroid and Castlevania' at first, I laughed on the inside that they didn't call Metroidvania, but then it sunk in. The game itself reminded me of bionic commando rearmed in a sense, however, they mentioned things like armor upgrades, and over 120 hidden items. It featured a nice large scarily similar to Metroid map, and from the demo, although buggy, the game itself looked fairly solid. I cannot wait to give the demo a go.
