It's actually mostly a puzzle game, you just control this character as a vessel for your time control mechanics. It's really varied, as every level has their own time control rules and a very compact package.
So yeah, if you don't think you'll like it try the demo, but in the end it's only 5 dollars/4.50 euros.
If you do play it, take your time, it's a thinking game.

We are mostly looking at an FPS though mostly because the competition with anything in the RPG world is overwhelmed by games like ...
Isn't the FPS like the most competitive genre there is right now?

Great stuff Tyler! Man, Tim Schafer. WHAT'S HE LIKE??? Also, without viewing the videos first this thread is very confusing. Games Journalism was never Serious Business. Also also (and most importantly) Closure is looking really fantastic. The original was already really interesting, and, well! Here's Tim walking around with Jeff from giantbomb, talking about the state of games in general, stopping by some games here and there: http://www.giantbomb.com/giant-bomb-at-pax-09-a-tour-with-tim/17-1324/I think you get a feel for what he's like (they also walk by Closure, again)

I guess Asteroids is the best example of zero gravity in a game.
note to self: humor just doesn't come across on the internet unless its too obvious and unfunny.

Metroid Prime Hunters had a superlow gravity multiplayer level. I can't remember which one it was, but MP Hunters had a very low gravity in general.
Perhaps inspired by a certain Unreal Tournament multiplayer level? I remember a sort of spacestation made up of 2 rings...

You might want to look at Super Mario Galaxy.
Yeah, played it, but surprisingly doesn't feature much gravity-less environments, apart from the point at blue things to pull yourself towards it. and Metal Storm is mostly just switching ceiling and floor right? Checked that final Strider 2 level on youtube, and it does have weird rules, something like unlimited jump velocity, you keep ascending until you hit something, though not always.

So, low or no gravity situations?
If you have HL2 you can set the timescale and gravity of objects so that they fly about in a low/no gravity esk way.
I'm curious, what's this for?
It's research for a game I'm doing. I'm trying to determine what games without gravity are missing or what effects it has on the player. Basically what gravity does to the player, and how I can work around it/take advantage of it when it's not there. I'll try the HL2 thing. Those Descent games remind me of the Cube film. And thank you mewse for your wonderful contribution

I'm looking for games that have no gravity or low gravity in either sections of the game or most of the game based on it.
Suggestions I've heard of are Dead Space and Crysis.
Just wondering if anyone could think of others.

Seeing it outside of a trailer, I'm wondering what that glowy space gap does in the game.
My best guesses are either some sort of light-dark world, or perhaps a 4th dimension....

Not really a comics fan, though I'm reading the Walking Dead and Fullmetal Alchemist(manga), have read Watchmen and some Frank Miller Batman
Comics is pretty damn expensive though, so its hard to combine with games.

I haven't seen the film, but I like this quote from Ebert: Much of the plot involves the obsession of the private security firm in learning the secret of the alien weapons, which humans cannot operate. Curiously, none of these weapons seem superior to those of the humans and aren’t used to much effect by the aliens in their own defense. Never mind. After van der Merwe grows a lobster claw in place of a hand, he can operate the weapons, and thus becomes the quarry of both the security company and the Nigerian gangsters, who exploit the aliens by selling them cat food. All of this is presented very seriously.

This was a tech/games conference in Finland(?) last week or so, where talks were given by people like Petri Purho, Cactus, Eskil Steenberg, Erik Svedäng. The organisers have started putting up download links for these talks, right here http://media.assembly.org/vod/2009/Seminars/Blueberry Garden guy and Love guy have their videos up there already (here's hoping the rest will follow soon).
