New runthrough is more fun, IMO. You can completely switch up your fighting style.

Developer / Business / Re: Desura - any sales success stories?

Desura is just too small to have any major advantages versus selling the game from your own site. The added difficulty of starting Desura to play your game outweighs the ability to protect and update the game. It's probably more useful for mods that are more difficult to manually update.

good
You can probably beat it in 5 hours if you actually know where to go and are skilled at the game (the master key shaves off a couple hours). Most of the time spent is repeated attempts and exploration of various places.

thats true but dual had more content and was (imo) more fun in local mp. does days of ruin even have that? i don't remember
i dont play advanced warts games for their plots
The plot of both Advance Wars still leaves much to be desired. However, it's also reflected in their setting, and I liked the post-apocalyptic feeling of the latter. Days of Ruin does have local multiplayer, I played it a lot and it's pretty fun. I disliked the feature creep that the Andy saga added to the games, Days of Ruin went back to basics and simplified it a bit.

Got the covetous ring, freed Logan. And then got knocked off what I assume was the last pendulum bridge.
F Sen's fortress.
Protip: Finish Sen's first, then go through it backwards. You can drop down the boulder drop hole to get there faster. The harder bridges are towards the end. Alternatively, unlock the elevator first.

Then there's each and every insect, the heat, etc. Winter's better than this torture.
*Holds up can of Raid* Real men like to breathe poison! God my family is high-strung. I need to get out of here.
Don't worry, that's like every parent ever. But yes, you do.

Developer / Design / Re: Grinding without the RL time requirements

I would say that grinding is merely a substitute for visible progression. If a character visibly changes, such as their appearance, the visible power of their moves, or their skill, you know they have gotten stronger. If the plot describes how they've trained, the player will also get that impression. However, without those aspects, the only way to show the player is via grinding for extended periods and watching a number tick up. I think that if the progression is communicated better, grinding isn't as necessary. Many games would rather use grind, as it lets them put less work into it while the player plays longer.
Alternatively you can cause grinding to intersect with real life like TWEWY did to some extent. Check back and get more points without actually playing the game itself.

Generally the enemies are a lot faster than most RPGs so you can't just start button mashing or you will get curb-stomped. Your shield is a lot more important than most action RPGs, but there is also a dodge roll that's pretty effective. I wouldn't say the combat was slow, though, the enemies are just fast and powerful.

Maybe it would have better luck if it was released at the start of this console cycle, when there weren't so many games for either handheld.
Streaming PC games is cool and all, but I have a huge screen to play them on, and I'm sure if I took it anywhere outside my house it would have massive latency.

I think that essay is pretty spot-on, and I got the feeling that the world of Dark Souls really rewards power over morality (as the only way for the gods to survive is to seek as much power as possible, e.g. keep the fire going as long as possible). The whole thing is basically a power grab by you or the serpents, rather than a fight against evil.

Maybe they're just taking a lot of health because your health bar is so small. Leveling at least some VIT is recommended since it adds on to your defense if you have powerful armor (and the RoFAP multiplier). Boosting END a lot doesn't really help your defense that much if you have a high stability shield, so you get diminishing returns from that as it takes a longer time to recharge anyway. It's good to have balanced VIT and END rather than more of one or the other.
You should try starting a completely new file and respec-ing your character. You will progress a lot faster once you are good at the game, especially with the Master Key. There are also more people to fight at lower Soul Level.

Maybe they can't afford to make a downloadable playable demo without getting some money from KS first WTF? I didn't know you need $150k to be able even start coding and making art on your free time. Maybe they live in huts and need to buy a penthouse so they have a plesaent environment to work on their game. This is a team of 9 people! If you subtract the Kickstarter rewards, it comes out to something like 10k per person. Working for a year, that's like minimum wage. I fail to see how they could afford a shack, much less a penthouse.

I don't know, I would probably get sick of it within the first week anyway. Not to mention, I actually have some good restaurants around so I'm not one to give up eating if I had the option Also: Why the hell is it called soylent? That's just gross.

Speaking of blood, it would be cool if you actually could get temporarily bloody similar to Dragon Age if you slew enemies, but I guess the game was never really that bloody anyway. I would love if the armor and weapons visually reflected their damage, though. For example, one with durability 10 would look all busted up.
Never realized a pure STR character was that powerful. Makes me want to make one now =P
