I was making the argument that source ports hardly constitute a "new game".
82  Developer / Design / Re: The Unfinished Game/Demo Dump on: January 20, 2009, 12:06:59 PM
Some of the games in this thread look so awesome.  If you know you're not going to finish them, why not give up the source?
83  Player / General / Re: Doom on: January 20, 2009, 12:01:35 PM
So what would you propose calling the "new game" that, for instance, features all of Doom's graphics, audio, maps, and gameplay plus the ability for level designers to make slopes?
84  Player / General / Re: Doom on: January 19, 2009, 10:01:36 PM
Have you noticed the Blasphemer project that Stilgar and I are working on?  It's an open-source "FreeHeretic" project inspired by black and death metal imagery.  As I can't help but notice that you are a pixel artist who likes Doom and metal I feel compelled to encourage you to check it out and perhaps consider contributing....

NWOGBBV, are you involved in the Doom community?

One of the greatest games ever made.  I personally recommend GZDoom, a very pretty, feature-rich port based on ZDoom.
These annual awards are a good start:

And here are some screenshots from the above award-winners, because I can't help myself:

But I'd just like to see greater popularity in some other genres within indie scene. More adventure and simulation mechanics, for example.

Where are you getting this idea that adventure games aren't popular with indie devs?  The Big Blue Cup page alone lists a whopping 997 games: http://www.bigbluecup.com/games.php?action=digest

This is a total non-issue.  There are TONS of great indie adventure games, RPGs, shmups, puzzle games, etc.

switch to 6/3

That's pretty progressive, yeah.

Any chance of a tutorial for tileset design?  I'd love to make a tileset but I need a little help.
92  Developer / Audio / Re: Draco's original music dump on: January 04, 2009, 05:00:18 PM
I disagree.  There's no need to use repetition to create a hook when the piece is designed to loop.  This sounds (and the game looks) quite nice to me.

Exocore
(just scroll down, it's hosted by a music portal)

It's a smorgasbord of noise, techno/techtrance and dark ambient with lofi elements - sometimes mixed together. At the moment I'm trying to make a themed album with consistent style and quality - probably about S.T.A.L.K.E.R.S.!

I like this stuff!  Have you visited http://chondriticsound.com/forum/ ?  It's the biggest/busiest noise forum around, and you could post a link to this page in the "MP3" section and get some feedback.

:X

... Okay. I probably should've just been a MAN and linked it without the quibbling. Heh. Quibbles.

Anyway, as I say some of these are putrid-looking, poorly done, etc. - but I don't dare delete them. They're kind of like bastard children I sort of kind of love maybe a little bit.

Edit: With a few exceptions, top = oldest, bottom = newest. Also there are a bunch of color-swipes so I could see which version I liked better... -_-

You could make an awesome Eye of the Beholder-style first person dungeon crawler with these sprites!

Judas Iscariot.

A band I'm in released an album recently ranging from mellow pop to 300+ bpm brutality.

This one is the AMERICAN DREAM:

Quote
(I’m working in an electronics retail store, and see a man in his late 40’s with a kid no older then 10.)

Me: “Welcome sir, did you get…”

(I look in his cart and see that it’s mostly filled with identical Spongebob DVDs.)

Me: “… everything?”

Man: “I guess so.”

Boy: “MORE SPONGEBOB! SPONGEBOB! SPONGEBOB!”

Man: “Alright, let’s go get some more.”

(About 5 minutes later he comes back, with more Spongebob DVDs… the same ones, to be exact.)

Man: “Alright, I think this is enough.”

(I ring him up, and the total comes to about $550.00 USD.)

Me: *whispering* “Uhh, sir… these are mostly the same thing.”

Man: “Oh, don’t worry about it. I hate my life anyway.”

I've been working on a very simple, low-res, non-linear platformer with some experimental ideas for a while. Here's a shot from the first level:
99  Player / General / Re: Doom is 15 on: December 11, 2008, 06:42:24 AM
Yes! Everyone must play this now, unless you want to wait an unspecified time for the next version to come out. It's really a nice wad, very much like an old adventure game. I'm glad to see that it's getting expanded because it's become one of my favourite wads.

It's a really really fine piece of work.  Available here.  I did the music for it!
