Oh yeah, sad to see it's still down. I discovered so many artists there: henryhomesweet, smiletron, spamtron, 4mat, fantomenk, the list goes on. Shame there's not one place where everyone gathers now. Instead it's all spread in pieces around the net.

Hmmm sounds interesting. You say they're looking for artists to contribute as well? Would you mind elaborating on what artists may do to help out?

aquanoctis: pretty sure he's saying that it wouldn't be your consciousness, it'd just be a clone of you. so it wouldn't really be immortality.
Good point, hadn't thought of that. @impulse9 Nah, that's fair enough, thanks for expanding.

I would like to have a robot body so that I could go into a forest and sit down and rust, while retaining consciousness. Hoping that eventually someone would come and notice me covered in moss and butterflies.
Have you read A Darkling Plain? Just throwing this in the mix. Japan in already seeing a decrease in birth rate due to numerous factors, including the rise of technology and consumerism. So you could factor that into the equation when you talk about immortality causing over population. Another interesting question raised by this is how does this fact play into the 'selfishness' argument against immortality, when a declining birth rate, in Japans case at least, would seem to be evolving naturally. Also, impulse9, why do you say transferring minds onto a machine is impossible. Obviously currently you're correct but why couldn't this be a possibility in the future. If you've got some knowledge on the subject share it with us, rather than just dismissing points. :D

I'm not really getting the 'it's selfish' argument. How is it any more selfish than extending life by normal means? Hundreds of years ago, when the average human life span would have been much less than it is today, people would have thought you insane if you told them they could be living for over twice as long in the future. Surely then, that would be selfishness. "If I live twice as long then surely I'm depriving someone else of a life" they might say. But here we are today living twice as long, and still having children. Still bringing life into the world.
Also, on the whole 'the only motivation is death' thing: What about competition between people/groups? Trying to better your fellow human is a motivation surely? e.g. An artist may constantly strive to improve upon the works created by previous generations.

Paul's training for longevity vs 2045-project.
Paul, obviously. Immortality is a greedy persons notion because if one was to be immortal others could not live in your place.
Never thought of it like that before. An interesting way to think about it, but is it really greed when you've not technically taken anything away from anyone else, due to them not actually existing?

Developer / Art / Unfiltered Textures in Maya

Heyup, apologies if this is the wrong place for it but I've run into a little problem using unfiltered textures in Maya. This crate and this sword both have Texture Filter set to unfiltered, yet when I render the scene the box stays nice and pixel-y but the sword gets some anti-aliasing going on. Anyone know why this could be?

Aah Errik I hadn't noticed that! Ugh, that's gonna bug me now... @Geti Yeah, like Biomechanic pointed out I wasn't saying the triangles were necessarily bad but that there are non-concealed triangles that could cause pinching when rendered.

That's really cool. So simple yet effective. Delta Odyssey was one of the first threads I saw when I came to TIGS.
Ah, I've just been scrolling through it again now...so much good art dang it!

Thanks y'all @Ishi Yeah, I originally did have a drain on it actually! But I took it out because it mucked up the UV and, only being a beginner, I couldn't work out how to sort it @gamegeek Triangles! Looking good though. I'd inflate his upper chest slightly as it looks a bit sunk.

Cool, never heard of Range Murata before, but I really like that style. Anyone seen any of David Franklands stuff before? Unfortunately I couldn't find any pictures without the book titles but the covers he did for Mortal Engines are great: Also does anyone know where this image is from? It's by the same guy and I know I've seen it before but I can't remember if it was on a book cover or somewhere else...
