Wings of Apocalypse X is a remake of a game I released back in 2008 (Wings of Apocalypse). Between working on other game projects I came across a free web based game engine called Wild Pockets (You should definitely check it out. Its pretty badass!).  After getting back together with my friends who helped me with the original we began to work on this new version. Hopefully you enjoy what we've done with the new version so far. I'd definitely love to hear your feedback!

You can play it at www.wingsofapocalypse.com!

You can also download the soundtrack of WoAX from HERE!

EDIT: If you want to save your unlockables in the game make sure you create a login at www.wildpockets.com and be logged in while you're playing the game!

Heres my reply to your questions:

1) WASD and Mouse

2) Sort of I noticed the score went up more but I didn't know exactly why. But I think if I would have played it more I would have figured it out.

3) Before I knew how to shoot i was just jumping on enemies and then I started using the mouse to just shoot the enemies.. and then I realized that it was slightly hard to jump on enemies so i wanted to see if you got more points..... I know I'm complicated LOL.

4) Pretty much just killed every enemy when they came on screen. Didn't play it enough to understand the combo thing.

5)a)Didn't quite get the rainbow thing.. again I guess if I would have paid more attention and played it more (which i plan to right after i finish this post) I would have understood it

6) I got to about 1300+ I think?

7) It was HELLA fun! Loved it .. I especially loved the visual and music changes. I didn't get what they did or anything but it just seemed cool haha. I loved the black and white old school one. That one got me excited for some reason. I was also excited that everything that was in the trailer was actually in the game! Awesome!

Its definitely addicting and badass!

I haven't checked this thread in awhile! Sorry guys!

hey!

are you interested in making a music for a "ghost/monster/spooky-things photography game"?
i can send you a demo of what it looks like right now, just pm me.
the theme would have to be something more on the darker side, but not really too serious i guess, because the game is also not very serious...look at my avatar.

if you think this would be fun for you to do, i'd wish for you to do it Smiley

Sure! I'm interested I sent you a PM already!

Kick hat snare hat?  I'll check out more of your music later I guess.
I checked out more of your stuff, at first I guess I just clicked on something that sounded (to me) pretty generic but now that I've looked at more of your stuff, it's aces man.  I love the narration and soundtrack and visual style of rComplex to death.

Thanks! I just made a new posted a few tracks from the Soundtrack of my latest game, Wings of Apocalypse X, you should check it out http://wingsofapocalypsex.blogspot.com/2010/03/sound-track.html

EDIT: Heres the track from rComplex. Just for you JR Hill =) http://soundcloud.com/rekcahdam/runb-tch

I agree with Paul here on the perspective thing, but not only that.....

I noticed the mixing of perspectives in Zelda games as well but, while the game is in motion its not really a big deal. Its only when I'm studying a screen shot that I'm like "LOL thats weird!". Zelda isn't the only game that does it. The old 2D Final Fantasy games did it. The Tales series did it as well. The list goes on.

@CiroContinisio:

Earlier you were quick to say Zelda games never mixed perspectives in the same scene. Again, I think that's because when you're playing the game your brain still understands whats going on despite the mixed perspectives and its not really a problem. But its easy to pick things apart when you're examining a screenshot.

Thanks Jonathan, I'm glad you liked it!  I started converting some of the BGM wav files to 128kbps oggs and you guys are right, they sound fine.

I haven't posted any updates in a while, so I thought I'd share some music.  I was actually working on these tracks for another project, but we ended up switching to all midis so I got to keep these for my own use... it was kind of fortuitous actually, because they ended up fitting the last area of the game really well.  Anyways, here they are:

Caleigh

Little Fish

Oh, and if any of you are going to GDC, hope to see you there!  These Leebles have curiously made their way onto my business cards courtesy of my friend PF...

Love the music!....and OMG... Little Fish..... I hear so much more in that track ahaha.  You should expand on it! Or let me do a remix <_< LOL..

Seriously though.. good stuff!

Hey!

You can definitely get away with lowering your bit rate down to 128kpbs! I usually cant hear the compression at 128kbps unless there are vocals or a mix of live instruments. I've listened to all of the tracks in the demo and I'm sure 128kbps should work fine. If thats too low for you Id bump it up to 160kbps.

Like Paul said, I dont think its humanly possible to hear the compression if its compressed at 160kbps and above. For some reason it makes me feels good to export my music at 320kbps though LMAO.

What software I use? I use Adobe Audition to record live instruments and vocals. I use Madtracker as a tracker/sequencer/sampler. I have a TON of vsts that I use for various sounds, instruments, or effects.

@rekchah: Same here, there are a few songs of mine that took me multiple attempts (I kept rewriting the verses or the chorus because they didn't feel right).  Though I must say that my favorite songs (and I think my best ones) are the songs that came out really quickly and naturally.  Ah, if you're on your 4th game then you're probably totally used to the difference by now!  This is only my first game, so I'm still getting used to it, hehe... when I first started out I kept having to tell myself "one step at a time" because I couldn't believe how long it would take me to do one section, and then to imagine that there were going to be hundreds more after that >_< ... you're certainly right about the patience thing.  Do you usually do all the production yourself when it comes to music?

Yeah I pretty much do everything myself. Anything specific you wanted to know about? I really enjoy recording and mixing live instruments... but maybe thats because I spent too much money on the recording equipment not to enjoy it LMAO.
52  Developer / Playtesting / Re: Melolune (video added) on: February 22, 2010, 10:02:45 PM
@rekcah: Haha, that's awesome that your friends will harass you about it until you finish it ^_^  Whenever I come back to the thread and see a bunch of replies I always get a boost from that!  Games are so different from music in that way... they're much more iterative and you can't really complete them in one binge sitting.  When you make music, do you usually complete a song in one sitting?  For me I love when I can get a whole song out like that (well, the bulk of it at least... the production might take longer), so I really have to change my mentality to work on video games, hehe.

Yeah, usually I'm able to complete a song in one sitting. But, there are a couple songs (mainly progressive) that took awhile for me to finish.

I've developed 3 games already (finishing my 4th) and I'm still adjusting my mentality to the slow pace of game development haha. Writing music is like instant gratification for me. I can instantly hear the result of what I'm doing. Hearing it come together excites me. Developing a game or software can get tiresome. It takes awhile before I start to get excited about a game I'm working on. I have to see things working how I wanted them to.

Patience is key when it comes to game development  Roll Eyes

Note: For those who hate reading long posts.... just read the words in bold  Smiley!

Hello,

I'm Roger (aka RekcahDam).

I write music.

I write awesome music.

I write awesome music for free..... for the most part.

It depends on the type of project it is. If its a game that is being released for free then I wont mind writing music for free. If you're selling the game then obviously we'll have to work out some type of contractual agreement. But, I'll be happy just to get credit for my music.

No.. I'm not a shitty composer... at least I don't think I am. I just want to widen my opportunity to work on some awesome projects.

If you want to hear general examples of my work go to http://myspace.com/rekcahdam. I'm currently working with an hip hop artist so you'll find 3 hip hop tracks on there... If you don't like hip hop skip the tracks named "Feel This", "Everyone's Gone" and "Worth Waiting For". But, they are good songs... so you should listen to them if you're curious!

If you want to hear my 8bit music check out my 8bitcollective account at http://8bitcollective.com/members/rekcahdam/. My latest song is called "Dance, NOW!".

I have written music for several games now, 4 of which are my own games. You can check out my games at www.rekcahdam.com.

Contact me by email at [email protected] ! As you can see, I'm very laid back but I can get serious when I need to. But making music is fun so it brings out the "kool" person in me lawl!

UPDATE: I just made a new posted a few tracks from the Soundtrack of my latest game, Wings of Apocalypse X, you should check it out http://wingsofapocalypsex.blogspot.com/2010/03/sound-track.html

56  Developer / Playtesting / Re: Melolune (video added) on: February 17, 2010, 12:36:17 AM
For me it seems to always work out that I don't even feel like working on the game anymore. I still want it to get done. But, I kinda wish someone else would finish it for me because there's usually a lot of work left to do and work isn't fun obviously LAWL. (Well,I guess work is fun for some people... just not for me.)

But some how my big mouth is what saves the day. I end up telling people that I'm working on a new project and some how they get all excited about it. And just when I'm ready to throw in the towel someone calls me or sends me a message along the lines of "HEY IS YOUR GAME DONE!?". And then I eventually get it finished because I don't want to let people down.

So essentially you've done what you needed to do! I guess, now its our job to keep pestering you until you get it done  Smiley .

59  Developer / Playtesting / Re: Melolune (video added) on: January 26, 2010, 09:54:57 PM
I think the reason I wanted to have a reprise of the piano music for the cave scene was because... hm, how do I explain it... In my life there have been certain pivotal or sad moments that felt very surreal to me.  It was almost as if I wasn't personally experiencing them; it was like I was an outsider watching it all happen from a distance.  When Achaius and Taranath search the cave for survivors, I kind of wanted it to feel like that... For me, the contrast between the tense scene and subtle music gives me a feeling of "it's happening so fast, it's so out of my control that I'm just watching it unfold."  I think this contrast resonates with me a lot because that's kind of how I experience things; I've seen scenes on television shows where they'll play very subtle but melancholy music juxtaposed with a hectic crime scene or something, and it really affects me a lot because it gives me that feeling of being out of control of my surroundings... like you could be experiencing it, but it feels surreal like you're watching it rather than living it.  But I dunno, I think sometimes I have a weird backwards way of looking at things like this... sorry if I didn't explain that very well Tongue

I can relate to this!

It kind of reminds me of a scene where the hero dies but instead of sad/melancholy music you hear somewhat up beat/enlightened music. It induces mixed feelings about the greatness of the hero yet the sadness of the fact that he/she is going to die. It seems to have a more lasting effect IMO. The contrast seems to make you think more about whats actually going on in the scene, almost throwing you for a loop haha. Does that make sense?
