I bet there's interest. At least the Triangle IGDA is pretty big. I don't know how active they are now but I went to a few meetings about 2 or 3 years ago and there were lots of people (hundreds maybe?) there.

I'm in Asheville by the way.

Dead as a door nail that I can tell.  I keep looking and theres nothing.

I'm just going to go with "no".  Im also going to go with a "This is why we can't have nice things" in general.

Have you ever been pasted a video you've already seen and not gone out of your way to tell the person that you've already seen it?

Co-Optimus podcast. An old one.

Very speculative question but I'll try.  Um.  I never thought i'd ever own a Cell Phone. Now I have an Epic 4g.  When I look at all the things I wouldn't do in the past, and how I would have fallen way behind if i didn't pick it up. I'm forced to say Yes. I would get a data jack.

What is your no.1 go-to (every day) web page besides Tigsource/TigForums etc... (infact make it non indie-game related plz)

Fail early, Fail often.  Always practice - Theory is crap.  If you can fall off of a skateboard then do it because its the only way you'll learn how to skate. Simulations are never as good as the real thing.  The time to do what you really want is always right now.

Do you have problems with insomnia?

If forced I would say no.  I am facinated by the conservation of energy. The idea that when you turn a light off the light is still there but in a negative.  The idea of light as a positive and darkness as nothing is as much a fallacy to me as a drawing being the positive shape and the negative space having no shape at all. It does, and can be used.   Anyways I'm going with no, But i do not know what "nothing" is. Its a conundrum to me.

What choice did you make at the end of Half-Life 1?  If you have not played HL1 then my question to you is. Why have you not played HL1? (real question. not being sarcastic. Sorry I was out of ideas for alternative question)
9  Player / General / Re: Gaming: why do you do it? on: July 24, 2011, 09:03:43 PM
Couple of possible answers.

1. For the same reasons I played other games I.E basketball or tennis.  Chess or Pin the Tail on the Donkey.
-Curiosity and exploration.  Competition. Challenge.  Learning. Trials

2. So at one point there was cannibalism in a certain village in China.  So if that trend is possible I like to think that perhaps I game because I game.   And I just don't think about it much.   I game the same way that I trim my nose hair or say "fine" when people ask me how i'm doing.

3. Novelty

4. Sheer experience (See no.1). For along time now all I care about is experiences.  Perhaps things were different when I was younger, but at this point my life is stories and experiences.  I game because I have fond memories of Counter Strike and River City Ransom.

5. Techno fetishism. I hate saying that, but it does sum it up.  Its hard to explain this one, But I build computers etc...  If you relate to this you know, if you dont, well I can't explain it to you.

6. Escapism.  This is typical and probably not as prevalent with me as most "gamers."  People who desire heavy escapism have addiction issues, and I don't.   But obviously I have this to a degree.

7. Entertainment and fun. Ofcourse.

8. Tradition and nostalgia

It was awesome meeting everybody. I met some really cool tigforums people.  This year was really cool for running into random awesome folk. Some who i've wanted to meet for a long time.

The awards ceremony was the strangest.  It blurred some lines and Meat Boy / Minecraft / Limbo made the whole thing really crazy.  I hardly played much of the other games. I cheered on RDR cause it was amazing. I guess i'm just not a fan of Mass Effect. I really should give the second one a shot though.

The IGS was quite good this year.  Not just because of what happened, but because of what didn't happen as well.  Anyways. Shatz talk was awesome.   Meat Boy was cool.  I think it set the stage for what to expect if you are like them and get an XBLA deal.  What I like is just how revealing the IGS and people in it are.  Thats the best thing. Its as transparent as it can be. I contrast that with the last and worste talk I went to which was on Heavy Rain.  It was a very superficial talk and things like "NDA" came up any time it seemed like he was about to talk about something that would mean anything.  I walked out of that.  But stuff like Rohrers f'ing game was just amazing.  Wow. I need to see that game again.   So cool.

I would love to go. I hear its been a really cool event - better each year.  But its so close to GDC!  I'm still recovering from it.  I can't even imagine getting on another plane.

I know!  this happens every year with this damn X-Mas thing that always happens. and this year is really bad.

The biggest thing for me this year is Co-op. I am all about co-op games and play as many of them as i can, and its been a growing trend lately that more and more people are giving up on the 12-year-old-racist-childish deathmatch thing and moving to co-op with close friends.

I just read an article about how Borderlands was sent to Death to fight amongst other games, then about 2 hours after that some friends i play co-op games with and i decided to skip it.  Sadly, theres just not enough time and energy to get into it. I played Shadow Complex, then Batman, then Uncharted 2, and now i'm in the middle of Brutal Legend. I have plans set to play Modern Warfare 2 Co-op and L4D2 which will consume much time.

All (especially non-co-op) time consuming games get cut first!  RPG's. anything that tries to justify its price with oodles of repeatative content and BS gets cut.
6 hours of great gameplay you say?  I'm in!  I like this new trend of quality 6-12 hr games.

Derek, what indie games have you be loving lately?

Stolen?  I'm sorry fellas, i had no clue.  It was a paste that went around work. I heard people going "oh... oh.. YES!! YES!! hahaha"  so i had to check it out.  It spread quickly and i found myself doing the same thing up until i think level 12, i can't remember. Then i went back to work.

I liked the feel.  So i thought i'd spread the word.

Cool!
At first i thought it just jacked my screen resolution Smiley

The pop ups reminded me of how i never seem to be able to fully get into a game.  Xbox "doofus is now online" pop ups, IM pop ups.  Virus database popups..   New email pop ups.. cell phone calls and text messages.   Its so tough to get immersed into a game.

I tried to look around the pop ups. which is ridiculous!  reached for my mouse for a second too.
