Sorry to disappoint, but it's not likely to be an adventure. More like RTS. As for the cockpit, well, the interface is planned to be cockpit-like, but I completely forgot about it when I came up with the backstory for it -_-

It's yet another typical day as you head down to the first floor of the apartment building, on your way to clean out the mailbox of the flyers and bills. On your way there, you spot a uniformed officer breaking down another tenant's door and entering. It's a typical scene here in the slums.
Bill, bill, ad, ad, rejection letter, ad, ad, ad. Nothing of interest. You turn to head up back to your tiny, cramped apartment, when the alarms suddenly begin to blare and a pink energy field springs up around the building. Through the front of the lobby, you spot an unsuspecting bird fly into the field and disintegrate instantly.
You stop by and glance into the apartment that the officer broke into. It's small and cramped like yours. Unlike yours, it also has the distinct smell of a laboratory. Inside, you spot the officer panicking as he screams into his mouthpiece, gibbering about nanobots and critical mass.
Next to him, on a table and attached to an old, obsolete laptop, you spot a small, innocuous looking object. With a plethora of warning signs plastered across it.
Good Lord! It's a nanobot fabber! And judging from the panicked actions of the officer, you've got only fifteen minutes before the entire building turns into a mass of grey goo.

Player / Games / Re: So, I finally played Cave Story...

The first time I played Cave Story was a little bit after it got translated. Played it past Monster X, but probably didn't get past the cave section with the golem-looking guys that was a little bit nasty. After couple of months or years, I picked it up again, beat it to get the normal ending, then went back but couldn't get through Hell (I think I might have gotten to the doorstep of the final boss once. Maybe. Probably not). All that time I didn't know how hyped it was. It wasn't until I visited these forums that I discovered how 'great' it was.
Cave Story was... pretty good. If people want to hype it, I don't mind. I certainly can't remember any other indie/freeware game as strongly as I remember Cave Story... Well, The Spirit Engine comes to mind, but I never finished that. Now people here hype it up, and I feel myself going along with it just for the nostalgia factor. You know, that thing that makes you think, Alley Cat was an amazing game! only to find when you load it up that it runs far too fast and the graphics are pretty darn ugly. And the controls are completely unresponsive.

My Lackey is fucked. I tried redownloading and starting from scratch and simply making files up that have the same name and downloading them manually and modifying the update list and and and... ...but IT CRASHES when trying to download a certain card. It did this a couple of times before, but it just somehow worked again. When trying a fresh copy of Lackey "out of the box", it does the same thing, but on another card Question - Are you running Vista? Because I was having the same problem. So right now I'm downloading the cards on an XP computer - no problems so far. It's always Vista's fault. Always.

One of the things that confuses some people about the game is how it starts off gently and peacefully, and then eventually moves more towards action and tense situations. This was something we did consciously, and the people who are willing to try it really seem to be affected by it in a cool way.
The Abyss was weird but interesting - I liked the glowy creatures. The next zone, you know, the one after the barrier, was just a bit creepy with the background music and stuff. The final area was just and outright creepy. I felt uneasy the whole time playing it and thinking, this is not what I signed up for. And then I got killed by a mob of 50 nautili. Nautiluses. Whatever. Well, I decided that was enough for the day -_- The attack that was supposed to clear the screen of all of them... didn't.Overall, I've been enjoying it.

Hello. I joined because now that I'm done with school (for the time being anyway), I'd like to try joining in the next compo, since I've got a few game ideas that are bugging me. My degree had little programming involved, but now I've got a fairly good handle on Java and Python. Also, indie games are great. Especially when they are free. By the way, is there an easy way to see all super-small text besides copy and pasting to notepad? And when people quote a post and don't seem to write any response at all, are they actually writing in text so small my browser isn't actually rendering it? Or are they just quoting the post without writing anything at all? Please don't quote this post without writing anything at all -_-

Would it still be single screen if doing something changed the entire layout of the screen? What if it only changed part of the screen? Presumably if it scrolls, it's not single screen, right?
Just trying to see what 'single screen' would imply...
Oh, hey, here's an idea. You know the apply dock, where the icons blow up and become larger when your mouse hovers over them? Well...

Developer / Design / Re: A PETA world

Back to the topic... something in the style of Oiligarchy, maybe? It was the first thing that came to mind.
Edit: Okay, that was too short. So. Something like... different screens where you can achieve your goals separately. Players start off on the main screen where you are N.I.C.E. PETA operatives who clear the streets of strays. You've just joined PETA! Once you capture a suitable number of strays, you are let in on the secret - they need to be euthanized! You move up in the ranks and while you still go and capture strays, you must now also take care of euthanasia in the van!
Then once you meet a sufficent target the more screens open up to you as you get promoted. This is where the neat stuff like 'domestic zoo terrorism' and 'honeyfarm terrorism' and 'meat factory terrorism' is possible.
Basically a bunch of minigames that are unlocked as you gain points. And then with those points you can spend them on campaigns to help keep up PETA's reputation.

I'm curious about CPD, having played the Crayon Physics prototype way back. I have to say, the current trailer I'm seeing on the crayonphysics site does not look that awesome. Hm, let's make a comparison to World of Goo (which I haven't played yet but heard quite a bit about and seen some trailers of - though, granted, it's a game that's already been released)
I'd say the original Crayon Physics is somewhere on par with the original Tower of Goo. A basic, simple, idea that's fairly well executed. World of Goo improved on Tower of Goo by adding great music and graphics, apparently new types of goo balls for interesting puzzles, and environmental effects for interesting puzzles. And atmosphere.
What I've seen from the trailer... Yes, it's a step up, but not that much of one. Additional control over shape creation, and the ability to make anchor/hinges are nice. But is that it? It still seems primitive. I mean, can I implement a pulley system with it? (You can't make a good rube goldberg machine without a pulley!)
Or maybe my expectations for these games are just too high (I don't have an XBOX anyway, but I wasn't too impressed by what I saw of Braid, either), and maybe I'm in for some disappointment when I finally get World of Goo.
