Yeah, so I'd pretty much kill to get my hands on that game... So let me know if you find a rom or something!!
There are many games I would die for phubans, but no games I would kill for.

@Psysal: I hadn't heard of that before! Looks fun. They do look a bit similar come to think of it. The similarity is definitely unintentional however. It's not the style overall, I think your mockup has an incredible style. It was more just cool to me that your mockup had the same layout as TAG's very first screen. Anyhow if you haven't played TAG I can't recommend it highly enough, it is really magical and awesome! =) Please make your mockup into a game, I really like it!

... the biggest obstacle for people learning programming is thinking that it's hard, rather than any actual difficulty to it. it's like math in that way; i think the main reason people fail math classes (at least the lower-level ones, like algebra and trig) is that they are afraid of math
There's definitely a lot of truth to this. I still don't agree that C is such a great place to start, but your other points about oop are also well-made. For sure, though, the intimidation factors of both math and of programming do the greatest harm to those who could learn them, and want to learn them. Programming is a natural activity, really, one that we do all the time in our daily lives when we make plans or use patterns of activity to finish tasks.

Just to jump in: I have to disagree with Paul that C is a good place to start, for the simple reason that to program in C you have to understand not only the abstraction of programming but also how hardware/memory access works. For that, and many other reasons, also I would not recommend starting with C++. By all means, *do* learn the nuts and bolts of hardware; just learn it later, it will be easier. If I were to recommend someone a language to start programming with it might be lua, Python or even Javascript. AS3 is also not a bad choice at all. I think BASIC is also a great first language but I don't know of a modern context where it's useful (I think there is something called DarkBASIC that has a game engine associated with it?) Also: Don't focus on programming primarily. There are so many skills to develop in order to make games! Maybe start with PROJECT MANAGEMENT: (note: Image taken randomly and hotlinked from A Girl's Guide to Project Management) (also note: I'm really only half joking about this. If you learn project management first, as a 12 year old, you may well go on to be the greatest and most prolific game designer the world has ever seen...)

I'm IN like SIN! This is an awesome topic idea. I use this palette in a new game: It's for terrain. Actually I'm not super-happy with it, not enough GREEN. But we'll see. I use this for The Real Texas when generating books for bookshelves/etc. The algorithm just chooses a pixel randomly for the color to use. It seems like old books once you take the dustcover are all mostly these sorts of colors (I wonder why? Probably some numinous reason going back to the dark ages...)

EDIT: The fuck I have no idea what happened here I don't talk like that in real life. Anyways AWESOME and CONGRATS, can't wait to play.

Hey after reading the feedback, just wanted to say that I think not being able to turn on the spot does make sense for the way the gameplay works. Drops could definitely be more common, though!
Just my $0.02, glad to see a demo now! Good luck with it =)

How do I advance in this game? Are there any tricks to it? Most of the time I just wander around for a couple screens then end up dying, then have to re-start again. I feel like there's something I'm missing.
Er, do you have the sword? Check out the cave on the first screen! Sorry for spoilers...

Hey there, just a follow-up! I did get the code and download link later, it was delayed about 2 hours though. So count me a happy customer! =)
Two bits of customer feedback though, not related to this:
1. While the game installs to Program Files/, it tries to save it's settings there and silently fails. What this means is that if you go into config and set it to be full screen, when you restart it won't be. In order to fix this I had to run as admin, but what I'm going to do is install it to my desktop.
2. I really wish there was a save feature. The game is pretty hard, it would be nice to be able to continue where I left off. If I understand how it works I have to beat it all in one sitting which is not likely. I don't mind the difficulty, per se, just that there should at least be some way to exit and then come back!
Great job! This is a fun little game that does a lot of things right. Looking forward to playing it some more-- money well spent, but if those two things were fixed it would be perfect!

Pancake stack dudes are "Like-likes". You were close.
I'm surprised we're this many pages in and nobody has complained about the Wallmasters.
Wallmasters manage to scare me more than all other enemies combined, in every zelda game. Fuck those things.

Hello guys, the game is NOW AVAILABLE! :D
Please let us know what you think!
As for the target platforms, right now it is only available for Windows PC's; there are no plans to port it to any other platforms other than perhaps Debian based Linux distributions.
This game will not run on mobile platforms any time soon.
CURSE YOU AND YOUR UNDERLINE TEXT THAT ISN'T A LINK!! hehehe =) I clicked 50 times on that... Wooo I'm going to try this now. (PS I remember finding your website once before but... please post a link!) EDIT: NOW AVAILABLEEDIT: Er, I bought it but... nothing! I just got that a customer service representative would be filling my order, or something. Er, not what I expected! =(
