My name is Richard and I am now somehow just getting around to posting to this thread
My first video game memory was playing some atari 2600 space game in the dark in my parents' living room. It was first person perspective with lots of stars wooshing by and pew-pew sound effects. I can't find what it was called, but it was awesome.
My next major gaming memory was Arctic Adventure, which I downloaded on very slow modem from some BBS in the states. It was a lot of fun. From there, I just played a lot of games all the way up through the great dos shareware titles like keen and wolf3d and stuff. I later got more computers and played more games, and eventually got an snes. Super Mario World was the bomb-diggity. And zelda link to the past, which i didn't play until sometime much later was also amazing.
I've been tinkering with game development and modding for as long as I can remember (Duke Nukem 1 level editor, anyone? :D) and I've always enjoyed it. Now I am starting to make some (or rather, finish some) games to share with the rest of the world. I hope I am successful, in so much as I get to finish games, and you guys want to play them. Someday, in the distant future in a galaxy far away, i'd like to make games for a living.
Huzzah.

If you want to look at some of the first stuff I've finished or read my general ramblings, feel free to follow me on twitter (https://twitter.com/#!/whilefun)
Cheers,
Richard
