Some super fluid and punchy animation there. Like Ashkin, I feel like my animation experience is lacking. I don't know, it feels like the most tedious part of spriting, so I tend to cut corners.

Thinking about it, I guess it's partly because I'm using the wrong tools, since I have separate programs for making the actual frames and saving animated .gifs.

Thanks! I also use graphicsgale, (but the free version doesn't have the gif funtionality) I'm probably not going to upgrade due to a lack of funds. But I'll live.

@Mozzy
The low swing with recoil is delicious! If I may inquire, what project are you working on?  Grin

Thank you! It's actually from a project I've been working on and off for about... 5 years now? It was originally called "Momotaro" But I realized how shitty the graphics were and ended up changing everything including the story and gameplay. So everything is a lot cleaner and more lively. It's taking much, much longer than I thought, but its worth it imo.

This is actually the first image I've shown publicly from it since I started the remake a year ago.

Thanks for the tips everyone!!

Here's the "final" version. The real completed version has a lot of the fixes you're probably going to point out such as his head facing the opposite direction after the first swing (looks bizarre now that I look at it) I just don't have time to make another GIF for it since I had to split the hammer and the character into two seperate sprites for the game.

And a huge thanks to, PixelPileDriver (over at Pixelation) he really helped me out big time!

Is this any better? I decided to take out the upswing as a part of the attack and instead, replaced it with a hammer jab. So it goes swing downwards, swing left, then jab forward. Then the brings the hammer back up to restart the cycle.

Its a 3 part attack. He swings the hammer downwards, then swings it horizontally, then swings it back up. So yeah, the upswing is a part of the attack. I considered doing just a single forward hammer attack, but it would just move too slowly for the style of game im making it for.

Like this? I actually made the blur bigger because I needed to show that the attack has a slightly longish range without actually making the hammer longer.

Frames (the animated one has several frames deleted):

someone help me make this not look like shit ugh.

I know the upswing looks weird but he needs to end in with an upswing to bring the hammer back to that ending pose.

This is Talon, a bad ass warrior man, the fiercest guy on earth. His beard is made of gold and he sneezes lightening. Also he is gay because there needs to be more gays in video games. Oh and has a pet otter.

That's pretty neat!
Oh come on! At least I had a subliminal message in mine. But you just said its pretty neat.
I'm a to-the-point kind of guy.

EVERYTHING in this. Such a great, sadly forgotten film:

The Theif and the Cobbler.

Hey BFXR is pretty nifty! I especially like the mix feature. Creates very unique stuff.

I'm toying around with Famitracker, seems pretty confusing to be honest, but I think I can work on it..

PXtone shows up weird, all the text is jumbled.

Hello all, I was wondering if any of you know of any sound effect generators similar to SFXR: http://www.drpetter.se/project_sfxr.html
I'm no composer, I have zero experience with music. I LOVE Sfxr because of how simple and easy it is to use, but it seems like everyone uses it so the sounds aren't as unique as I would like them to be.

On a similar note, is there any free, simple to use music creating software thats good for beginners? I've toyed around with Pixel's music creator that came packaged with Cave Story and I liked it's simplicity, unfortunately it only exported in a weird format. I think if I worked harder with FL Studio, I would've understood it, but unfortunately it wasn't free.

I'm glad! Environmentally friendly and I never looked at them anyway.

Wow that definitely changes it a lot! Thanks for the tips. And the crotch thingy is just an error from my shitastic gif maker.

Here's a thread for me to share my sprite work of Pistolet with y'all as opposed to clogging the pixel art thread above! This isn't so much of a devlog, more of an sprites in progress thread, haven't and probably won't get to programming in a while. Basically, my art direction is heavy lines, bright colors and dark shading. It's, for the most part, set in a wildly fantastical wonderland of sorts, and an equally bizarre psuedo old western town. So here, color and atmosphere, coupled with lively characters are key to bringing this to life.

Here are some character animation sprites:
Ruger:

Sako:

Howda:

Most current line up (hopefully addressed past critique) of the main cast:

If you're curious about the story, it's a lengthy read and difficult to summarize. But I will if you really want. Anyway, feel free to critique, question, destroy etc.

Wow awesome! Lots of great info, thanks guys! I took a shot at blender, but didnt have time to get into the meat of it. I'll try some more soon. Thanks again!

Did someone say animation!? No? Well here ya go anyway.
Running!

Based on some the critique y'all gave. + two more characters (-:

So I've dabbled in just about every art form there is, failed at most but succeeded... sometimes. However I've never had the the opportunity to do 3D. Is there a free, easy to use program to make 3D models? Note, I would be doing this just for fun, not much else really. And tutorials, tips, tricks, comments and general advice and such would be awesome.

Heres a line up of the major characters (missing two actually) of my WIP game, Pistolet:

From left to right:
Ruger, Glock, Kimber, Beretta, Wesson, Smith, Besa, Milkor, Howda (Last three are the same character)
Bottom two are:
Sako and Serbu

You can critique the actual pixeling but I'm more interested in what y'all think of the designs (-:

Oh and obvs, a lot are incomplete
