When it became fun, I would assume.

Collision with block
Code:
if (bbox_bottom-vspeed <= other.bbox_top)
{
  y = other.bbox_top-sprite_get_height(mask_index)+sprite_get_yoffset(mask_index);
  vspeed = 0;
}
else if (bbox_top-vspeed >= other.bbox_bottom)
{
  y = other.bbox_bottom+sprite_get_yoffset(mask_index)+1;
  vspeed = 0;
}
This tutorial uses complicated stuff just to use the user-friendly simplicity that is vspeed. I would not recommend vspeed.
Regardless, this definitely has to do with the sprite_get_yoffset bit, with the mask_index thrown in there. Calculate what those values will be and then see what your y is being put to through that. I can't do it because this code is foreign. If you can't figure it out, upload the gmk.

Derek, can you please make the teleporter teleport a set distance instead of a wildly random one?

It's already dangerous enough without the worry of it randomly deciding to teleport you four squares instead of eight and you ending up in rocks.

Also, it could be put to much better use in custom levels if it were more constant, so designers don't have to worry about people not teleporting far enough or too far to fit their level.

I suggest 6 squares.
I agree, as I have been screwed over by the teleporter so often that I never use it or even steal it anymore... no matter how easy it is.
And the level I made centered around it was one of my best, until I found it was wildly unstable and had to scrap the whole idea.
1044  Player / General / Re: Music that changed you on: April 01, 2009, 04:51:32 PM
I believe the first Radiohead album I ever heard was Kid A, then Amnesiac, then I stole my brother's copy of OK Computer. It was the first music I had ever heard that didn't make sense but sounded perfect at the same time.

After that, I'd say Windowlicker by Aphex Twin because it scared the crap out of me, and Microscopic by Download cause its ... well fucked up. I used to listen to a lot of Nine Inch Nails as well, but the new albums are kinda lame :/
Radiohead! I don't really get why so many people don't like the new Nine Inch Nails stuff, though, I  think that Ghosts was their/his best album so far. Actually, Ghosts is a good example. I never really thought that instrumental ambient kind of improvised music like that could work properly, and never really paid any attention to it, but Ghosts really changed my perception of that kind of music.
I only have In Rainbows. But that's enough to make me want every other album Kiss

Is it April Fools, or is it not? Everyone says so, but... they wouldn't say so if it was, so...

the lies are all around you open your eyes

Happy April Fools, peoples.

So maybe we are all part of some master April Fool's joke, 2000 years in the making?
Yes, it all makes sense...
APRIL 1ST IS AN APRIL FOOL'S JOKE, AND THEREFORE I WILL SLEEP THROUGH IT FROM NOW ON TO AVOID BEING PRANKED. To all you who are awake right now, April Fools, suckers!

I like chocolate milk, especially yoohoo, which I can down a bottle of in about 8 seconds (but my friend can do it in 1-2 swallows, so he's probably way faster than that.)

There should be a competition for this game. Whoever stays awake/doesn't leave to go to the bathroom/doesn't press space out of pure boredom wins!

Oh, too bad. You should've archived it when you had the chance! That's a lesson I learned the hard way, as my TI 89 crashed daily and I lost a lot of games. Now it's broken forever though, as I accidentally dropped it on the ground for the third time...

The sad thing for me is I actually want to play it. Giggle
1050  Developer / Playtesting / Re: Sword Calibre on: April 01, 2009, 12:07:23 PM
This was quite fun. It has that old graphical and musical style which I LOVE and was really tough. I also liked the physics and tight controls, they worked admirably.
1051  Developer / Playtesting / Re: Spelunky v0.99.8 on: April 01, 2009, 11:50:38 AM
Derek, why didn't you tell us you released a sequel to spelunky today?
http://tinyurl.com/spelunky2

Okay, I couldn't resist. I figured I'd go for a benign classic. I could have rickrolled or worse.
What's worse then being rickrolled?

Heck yes. That would be awesome. I need 8-bitty tunes for a-
ruins, hills/plains, space wreckage, jungle(must be really epic, it's huge), caves, and lava ocean. If anyone wants to pitch in, go for it! Coffee

Here are the two amazingly shitty 5 minute games:

You Lose
At least there's a somewhat interesting game over message for this one.

Cockpit (T)error
This has absolutely no redeeming qualities. Tongue

Well, I use Windows XP for an operating system, and it doesn't die like expected. The framerate simply drops well below 1 fps, but I found that if I rapidly tapped the escape key, it would finally read the input. So that's good it's not a crash, at least. This happens when selecting levels to edit, more specifically scrolling between them, and even more so onto mine. I would say just a crappy CPU, like that program told me. This computer IS 3-4 years old, after all. So don't worry about me. My computer's a lost cause. I had to change the color quality from 32-bit to 16-bit just to run my 2d game, which is just black and white! Roll Eyes
1057  Community / Cockpit Competition / Re: Tragedius [FINISHED, OSX & Windows] on: March 31, 2009, 04:38:18 PM
I'll try that link, but the thing is I tried it on the lowest and very high FPS values, but I don't think it was the matter because it completely froze when I entered the level selection screen. Which texturing mode is less stressful?
I get about a 3 in the parentheses when I turn it on, but it slowly climbs to a 10-20.
EDIT: Hm. It found a lot af driver errors but after analysis it wanted me to register to fix it and it cost money, so that's a dead end there Tongue
1058  Community / Cockpit Competition / Re: Tragedius [FINISHED, OSX & Windows] on: March 31, 2009, 04:07:08 PM
Agh! I had the FPS up as high as it could go and it was still ridiculously slow! Cry
I guess I'll never get to play this, however awesome it looks.

Madvillain made me realize there's a good side to rap, too- It doesn't have to be lazy and slung together like so many artists have given it a reputation of being.
1060  Community / Townhall / Re: "All Our Friends Are Dead" (2nd Beta now Available!) on: March 31, 2009, 01:23:52 PM
Good job on the newest part, but is there a way across that giant spike pit? Undecided
If you really wanna do something to creep someone out, you could have the disk tray open and then close instantly in some parts. A person would think it happened all on its own! You could also do some fourth wall breaking things like making it look like the program had been accidentally exited out of and then putting you right back in three seconds later, or jumping from fullscreen to windowed mode and back eerily (or the other way around.) Think Psycho Mantis.
