You have to type in a spell for each boss as it ascends (a guy in the fire cave tells you something along those lines) and the soul will come crashing down instead of leave the screen. When you do that for all three bosses and then go through the big door in the ruins and fight the final boss, you'll get an opportunity to type the last command when you beat him. Otherwise he'll escape with the other parts of his soul and be invincible. You can refight bosses if you didn't type the commands the first time.
983  Developer / Design / Re: So what are you working on? on: April 08, 2009, 05:58:29 PM
I just downloaded Construct yesterday, and I'm teaching myself the basics. It's going pretty well so far, and I like what I've been seeing, but I'd like it a little more if I could actually get something I make to run in the first place.

Oh well. I'll keep working on it.
I just downloaded it, and the stupid side of me refuses to look at a tutorial Tongue
So I played around with it until I got confused and went back into my GM protective shell of knowledge. I may be turning into a turtle, in other news.

Ooh, seems a bit premature but if everyone's saying it I have to too... in other words...
I'll totally be up for a comicompo.

To shorten it to a statement- I needed 5x more playtesters. I spent forever finding new bugs and slowly fixing them, when one quick runthrough would have sufficed.

Also, Bidoof is a great pokemon for HMs.

I got mine up. I fixed a lot of big bugs in it(1.0), so I'd be thankful if you'd upload it.
988  Community / Cockpit Competition / Re: Commander Jet Pack : A dangerous path[FINISHED]v1.0!!! on: April 07, 2009, 10:56:09 PM
I fixed all that I'm pretty sure, v1.0 is out! All right, I'll have some more updated screenshots up tomorrow to motivate those of you who tremble at the 6MB download.
Enjoy.
EDIT: Oh yeah, and it is HARD. Don't get too angry, just explore around. Items=Power in this game. (=not constant frustration)
989  Player / General / Re: I hope this is some kind of lame, late April Fool's prank. on: April 07, 2009, 08:00:45 PM
I already saw that. DON'T TRICK ME WITH YOUR HEAD GAMES!!!

Ahaha, I hadn't seen the Zelda dance in a while... :D
990  Player / General / Re: Nintendo DSi Thread on: April 07, 2009, 07:52:15 PM
I have a Lite, and I think it's okay, except the spongy button thing and its flimsiness. I had to send it in for repairs once because the L button wouldn't respond and the part where it folded over broke. I got it back, but the L button and some others felt partially non-responsive after about a week of play time. I would like a normal DS if I could get that nice clicking sound whenever I pressed a button.
And I'm still angry that the DS can't support GB and GBC games, so I won't be getting a DSi anytime soon because those games, along with my GBA games, are way bigger than my DS library and I had to pull away from my awesome GB and GBA games (i.e. pull out the GBASP whenever I wanted to play them) but I refuse to pull away from my GBA library too. I mean c'mon- I'm replaying Drill Dozer right now, I'm not giving up awesome crap like that.

Cry
We still have Zelda though... except the animated cartoon, but if we'll all forget that we can just move on.
992  Player / General / Re: I hope this is some kind of lame, late April Fool's prank. on: April 07, 2009, 07:22:16 PM
Let's hope they don't do this to Mario
Too late man, too late.

trying to learn to make music. This close to giving up, becouse (ohnoes) my first song turned out so crappy Sad
It's not that bad. One thing I would change is the... piercing crispness of the piano. In such a quiet and deserted seeming mood, it is an unwelcome guest. It would sound better maybe as a low whistle or something like that. Also- unity. The song should have a familiar beat, something that makes it all flow together, like a repeating rhythm, and a lead with a sort of togetherness, perhaps a semi-repeating lead, or variations on the same tune (like a higher note at the end of a note string that wasn't there in the previous repetition)
I have to say, really good for a first attempt! When I first tried, I only used one instrument, always the same note spacing, and randomly clicked out notes. If you heard it, you would plug your ears within the first second- at least, everyone else I showed it to did  Giggle

Let's hope they don't do this to Mario or Zelda. Classic video games+a camera and a budget does not a good movie make.
995  Community / Competitions / Re: Cockpit Competition on: April 07, 2009, 09:28:27 AM
Shit, i'm uploading a fixed build of my game tonight because I'm an idiot and totally fucked up the first one. Is it possible to update it in the zip when i do?
I'll do another update tomorrow or something. Smiley
Yeah, get mine too, I'll probably have v1 out by then.
996  Community / Cockpit Competition / Re: Commander Jet Pack : A dangerous path[FINISHED]v0.999c on: April 07, 2009, 08:26:20 AM
Oh, I'll fix the orb... And you were SUPPOSED to go to the credits, fixing that. I'm pretty sure you don't have all the items, though, no matter how well you searched. There's a certain extra mile you have to go for the last 4...So keep playing!
(and I know you couldn't get Magic Scroll A, fixed that for 1.0 though)
997  Developer / Technical / Re: Game Maker for Beginners: Part III on: April 06, 2009, 07:44:57 PM
well, this is the code block that concerns y movement
Quote
// controls y speed
if (keyboard_check(vk_up))
{
    y_spd = max( y_spd - accl, -max );

    sprite_index = sPlayerBankLeft;
}

if (keyboard_check(vk_down))
{
    y_spd = min( y_spd + accl, max );

    sprite_index = sPlayerBankRight;
}

if (!keyboard_check(vk_up) && !keyboard_check(vk_down)) //if the player does not press up or down, slow the ship down
{
    if (y_spd < 0) y_spd = min(y_spd + drag, 0);

    if (y_spd > 0) y_spd = max (y_spd - drag, 0);

     sprite_index = sPlayerShip;

}

//moves the ship if within room bounds
if ( (y => 0) && (y + 12 <= room_height) )y += y_spd;
I would say because there's no precaution to stop the player from moving outside the room, and no code to make him move when he is. Set a limitation code somewhere-
Code:
//movement limitation code
if y<0 {y=0; y_spd=0};
if y+12>room_height {y=room_height-12; y_spd=0};
Not sure what y_spd is there, but I assume it's all for the floaty physics. Of course, you have "accl" and "drag" and other stuff too, so I'm not sure what's going on there. Basically the y_spd=0 represents setting the floating motion to 0.
998  Community / Cockpit Competition / Re: Commander Jet Pack : A dangerous path[FINISHED]v0.999b on: April 06, 2009, 07:28:25 PM
I could only increase the volume because there's no good way I can think of to universally lower the sound volume or stop the music without adding and inputting variables.
Yeah, the bosses are supposed to be back, for [SECRET] purposes, and the bosses don't give you items.
The level 2 gun is in the jungle I'm pretty sure, and I guess I'll fix the bullets and that room sound bug. Beat the game though, it's not too far now, and I think if you downloaded the update you wouldn't be able to redeem the save.
A present will only appear in its set place only when you aren't carrying any other presents, so I'd check back in some "dead ends"...
Oh, and in the lava zone did you run across a multiplier with a heart for an eye? If so, did you defeat it and what happened after...? (I never tested it...)
Fixed it up now... Uploading 999c in a minute... I'm ready to call this v1.0 if you beat the game with no further errors.
999  Community / Cockpit Competition / Re: Enviro-Bear 2000: Operation: Hibernation [Finished] on: April 06, 2009, 06:47:49 PM
Enviro-Bear doesn't seem to care about the environment too much, what with his look of absolute joy as he tears through trees and ponds haphazardly.
(In other words thumbs up)

Mm. This thread might just lend itself to another bag of popcorn yet.
