Tropico and Tropico 2!

Haha, i installed unity on my f drive and the unity editor on the c drive, so the usual unity editor path was perfect on the c drive but i hadn't twigged that it wasn't actually where unity itself was installed. I must have been having one of my senior moments. I'm only 28, but they happen increasingly often recently! Thanks for the help Alec.

I'll have another look when i get home, maybe i installed it on one of my other drives. I did think i did that, but thinking about it now i may have found the folder of the unity editor linked earlier in this thread.

Not at the moment, i'm at work. Pretty sure i'd have just done the default though whatever that is.

Windows xp. I did a search on the whole hard drive for the file "unitykeywords.properties" just in case it was somewhere else, and no luck.

I couldn't get notepad++ set up properly to work with unity. All the files mentioned in that tutorial just don't exist anywhere on my system, so not sure whats up with that.

My two new favorite songs.

Hah that second link is awesome. Thanks :D

edit: Here's one that i've recently been enjoying. The best day of Adrien Brody's life:

Nice. I played the demo a while back and whilst it was gorgeous visually, i didn't really like the gameplay that much. Not my kind of game. But for $5 bought in an instant!

Flash is... Gee. HTML5 and OpenGL for JavaScript are here now. Use them.

http://www.kesiev.com/akihabara/

Why is that every time someone links to an example of why html5 is better than flash the examples always look terrible? Flash is still by far the best way to create games if you want them web-ready (apart from unity if you want 3d), and there is a far bigger opportunity of making money from said game.

Nice. I use notepad++ all the time at work. Hadn't thought of using it with unity. Will check out the link later Smiley

Just thought I'd mention this UnityScript Editor (javascript) over on the unity forums:
http://forum.unity3d.com/viewtopic.php?t=51129
windows only, I'm afraid. I think it's a better solution than the flashdevelop hack if you're using javascript in unity.

I've been playing with this editor and whilst it's got potential it's currently far more frustrating to use than it is useful. It keeps re-indenting my code in ridiculous ways that make everything really hard to read, and often when you use the code completion it won't actually capitalise things that need to be capitalised. Shame, because i like the code completion better than having to remember everything.

Wait is sign spinning a known thing? I watched that video and was like ... that's a job? The ones in britain just stand there and hold the sign on a stick all day. Lazy bums.
Well the job is only what you make it, people can be lazy, or they can have too much energy like myself.

Haha good for you. However the ones here (london) are usually on oxford street so surrounded by throngs of people. You'd take out a bunch of tourists if you started spinning :D

Which is something i'd love to see.
173  Player / General / Re: HOLY SHIT GUYS STARCRAFT2 IS OUT on: August 04, 2010, 02:43:47 AM
Sure, but StarCraft is 12 years old; It's not that hard to make a superior effort...

No disagreement there. I just fail to see how one can consider NEVER innovating a pro rather than a con... But hey, if you want to play the same crappy games with just updated visuals over and over again, good for you.

I expect gaming to evolve.

Sure gaming should evolve. But games should also improve on their past efforts. Not every game has to be a new revolutionary take on a genre. Thank fuck they're not, or we wouldn't have games like civ 4. I loved civ 1, but by 4 they had honed the gameplay to a much higher level, and it was a fantastic game. I think the same has happened with sc2. I don't think it's in the same league as civ 4, and you keep saying that they've hardly improved it at all over the first, but seriously? Go and play the first one. It's bloody awful. The interface and controls are clunky as hell.

You're criticisms of the game are all valid, the idea of being able to set up notifications for energy levels, and your issues with the queue system i kind of agree with. I'm just saying there's room for games that improve upon existing games and don't try and evolve too much and i think for me, sc2 did that pretty well.

I imagine diablo 3 will be in a similar vein, little evolution, shit loads of polish and improvement.
174  Player / General / Re: Construction toy whose name I can't remember on: August 02, 2010, 11:09:11 AM
Haha i was about to mention meccano. My parents got a whole load of the quality metal bits from a car boot sale. I made an awesome buggy that had this flexible roof that if you rode it off a ramp and it landed on it's back, it self righted. Meccano was like the super nerdy version of lego.

This and the cartoon thread is sending my down memory road quite badly! I need to get some old school toys to play with Sad
175  Player / General / Re: Childhood cartoons being ruined? on: August 02, 2010, 10:34:43 AM
As long as they leave Jamie and the magic torch, Button Moon, and Cities of Gold alone, then i am ok with them raping these lesser cartoons.

Oh, and Dino Riders.

Are you sure it wasn't trying to suggest that Google should surely by capitalised?
It's the properest of proper nouns!

Holy shit, this thread seems to have been left for dead. But whatever, i finally got around to drawing the building for week 3 (lol, week 3). I kinda got carried away fucking around with colours rather than focusing on the architecture so the building itself is a little plain. Still, at least i did mine.  Outraged

Come on chaps, pull up those socks!

There's a friendship code where people who bought the game can give a 7 hour game0time trial to two people. Maybe that's how he has tried it.

Have to say though, i disagree almost entirely. I think the single player campaign has the most interesting missions of any rts i've played. Each one has a gimmick that changes up how you play. It's not the usual "start from scratch, build up base, destroy enemy base" that i'm used to. Also the achievements and optional missions usually make you play in a more adventurous way, pushing you away from the turtle and then swamp the enemy strategy.

One thing i really miss is the hero classes from Warcraft 3. It made me feel more involved in the combat somehow with named hero's that you could evolve. Ah well.

Finished last night on normal, and didn't really struggle on any of the maps so i'm gonna go back through it all on hard.

Apparently there was already a DotA clone out during beta. Not sure if it was as well realised as the war one, doubt it. But i don't think it will be long before there is one.
