Whenever I feel unmotivated, I go back to the reason on why I am making the game, usually I want to do it for a purpose, like communicate something I think it is important, or make an experience that I think will change the players in some way, so when I remember the reason I get motivated again.

When I feel overwhelmed, I stop thinking about all that needs to be done, and I focus only on one thing. I make a list of all things that are needed, and I pick only one thing, and I focus on it forgeting about the rest, I try to get into it's details. This takes a big load of my back and makes it much easier to get to work. If I achieve things faster, I also have more fun, so I put myself goals that are faster to achieve, that's why I focus on details, to be able to make smaller goals.

Some other times I just need to relax, have some fun and forget about the project for a while to recharge myself and get some inspiration.

Hope that helps, good luck, it's a great project.

Very nice "twist". Maybe it would be better if you continued a little bit more the story, and told about what happens with the characters after the visit to that planet. Something that shows more the consecuences of your actions.
163  Developer / Business / Re: Localization - is it worth it? on: January 26, 2010, 06:21:02 PM
Make sure that your game is succesfull before trying to localize it, otherwise it doesn't make sense to translate a game in lots of languages when nobody wants to play it.

I say, stick with english first, and leave the option for localization in the future. See if the game works in english first.

Thanks, I think you have a point, not all games that make you click your enemies to attack are fun in that aspect.

I have been studying those kinds of games and I have found out that the best of them have you hit enemies 3 times and then they fly away leaving you time to move to another place, go near them to grab them or hit them on the ground, or attack other enemies, this is a very important thing to make them fun, besides having lots of weak enemies that are quick to kill.
Which is quite different from Noitu Love because you often have to click much more than 3 times in the same place, which means that you don't move, you just click like crazy in the same place, which I find not very fun.
I have more fun when in that game you have to click in many different places very quickly, enemies in the air, then in an enemy in the floor, at your back, then at the front, that's more challenging that clicking lots of enemies that appear in the same place over and over.

Gunmaggot: thanks a lot, I really like the clarity of your post.
But could you please elobarate more on the danger of making a mouse driven beat 'em up?, I really cannot see how could that go wrong.

Noitu Love was one of my inspirations too Smiley

I know what I show it's not much and that the gameplay right now is very basic, but I think that with the info I give it is enough for people to imagine on the kind of direction I am going so that they can give me ideas to add to the game, or even tell me if what they see so far fits the direciton I am going, even though is not much.

The idea to show the video is to capture interested people, followers, and to recieve ideas I did not thought of so that I can make a better game than If I did it with only my ideas.

What do you think I should do to achieve this?.

Edit: I had another idea, to make this like a beat em up with a mix of Final Fantasy tactics but in real time and pause capabilities to be able to give orders to your team mates, what do you think?.

It is like Final Fight/Streets of Rage/TMNT/Knights of the Round but with mouse control and the rpg elements into it.

The art is placeholder, it wont be in the final version.

Hi, please see this video of an early game prototype. It's a beat em up "mini" game for a Princess Maker inspired game.

I'm intereseted in all kinds of feedback, I want ideas, advice, I want to know what players expect from this kinds of games, I want to make a game people will enjoy.

I investigated further on ModDB and it seems my game is too early in development to post it there, they want only "almost finished" games.

Anyway, if you want to see some VERY early screenshots and find more info, check out my development blog here http://funeffect.com/wp/2010/01/2-prototypes-done-already-and-some-screenshots/

Your feedback is very appreciated, thanks!.

Are some of you interested in follwing the development of my new princess maker game?, I allready have two parts of the game prototyped allready, basically they are a map exploration mini game and a traveling and fuel management mini game.

If so, maybe I could start making a ModDb thread and share any news there and also recieve some feedback from you, as I am very interested in knowing what you think about each part of the game, so I can make modifications as soon as possible. It is very very early, but the sooner the better I guess.

That's awesome  Kiss

There are too many people to answer individualy, so I'm just going to give everyone a "thankyou", you gave me lots of good ideas. Keep them coming.
177  Player / General / Re: Do you like Princess Maker games? on: December 29, 2009, 06:28:38 PM
@PF: would it help if you had a more action oriented theme but keeping the management/sim side of it?, like instead of a princess you raised an adventurer who killed dragons or things like that?.

@Sar: I understand your preference, but PM main fun thing is the management, but do you like games like Diablo or other rpgs?, those games also have management, but not so much micro management as PM.

@allen: those games are a very good example, very illustrative of what you mean, thanks. But Is the usual RPG battle system a bad idea (for example, the Pokemon games)?, or do you prefer a more hand eye coordination game like "captain successor/forever"?.

@Desert Dog: If you could elaborate more on the lost simplicity i would be very gratefull. What other games like that do you enjoy?, maybe if you compare it to other games you could tell me more preciselly which games does better than CK Kingdom.
178  Player / General / Re: Do you like Princess Maker games? on: December 29, 2009, 05:36:13 PM
Thanks, DYRE I'll have to look more at monster rancher games then.

@Paint by Numbers: Thanks for the ideas. Would many many mini games solve this?, or do you mean simply adding more works and things to study?.

@Super Joe: what do you think of the idea of raising a space adventurer instead of a princess?.

@thernz: "I make princesses to make more princesses.", thats a good idea, I think, maybe I could include it in the game Smiley

Thanks everyone, but until now people have mentiones Princess Maker mostly, anyone tried Spirited Hearts or Cute knight kindgom?, what would make those games more likeable to you personally?.
179  Player / General / Re: Do you like Princess Maker games? on: December 29, 2009, 04:51:50 PM
@Dozer: Would it be better if there was a mini game on Pet Protector where it allowed you to use the character more directly?, like using him in a very primitive and small plataformer?, or do you mean like, beign able to talk to him more, or having more options for him to do more things specifically with the trainer?.

What is wrong with that concept?, why you don't like it?.
