I'd be up for it. If we're looking for a cheap premises, we might consider going further east. (Though maybe in berlin we might be able to use some arts centre?)
The problem with going East is that my vacation money is already spoken for, if it's much farther away from Gelderland than Denmark or Belgium, I might not be able to come.

I consider French to be a pretty ugly language, about as ugly as High German, Dutch, and English.
Now, the Scandinavian languages, they be pretty, as is everything in Scandinavia.
Please? Dutch is pretty much as awesome as it gets. This native speaker of Dutch begs to differ.

LFS would get one star in all except compatibility i guess. Gentoo used to have a great expert community, their wiki was a source of info not found anywhere else about many linux subjects. not sure whats the status of that. but it deserves at least 2 **
Well, LFS never aims to be easy to use, or easy to install. It aims to provide those who already know the tricks and trips of Linux with the ultimate freedom, at the cost of work and difficulty to use.

Well i heard some people say that installation of packages is easier on some distros (apt?), so that's why I put that in. I also heard that some distributions have updates to things frequently and others don't, but I'm happy to remove any column if it's ridiculous. I know very little abbout Linux.
Ease of use vs. New to linux, well I suppose they're related, but if a distribution works largely off command line (as one person accused Debian of being) then that will IMO never be easy to use, even to people very familiar with Linux.
I prefer using command line tools to GUI tools, for most stuff. I install cygwin as soon as I get a new win PC, because command.exe is just unusable, and I want a usable terminal.

The French are, in the Dutch list of disliked Nationalities, at around fifth place.
1. Germans, mostly due to the War of '40-'45 2. Americans, mostly due to (perceived?) arrogance and the USA's meddling policies. 3. Spanish, mostly due to the way they're discussed in history classes, slightly because we fought them to become independent. 4. British, more than a century of strife for the control of the global seas. 5. The French, mostly because of Nappie (Napoleon).

Developer / Art / Re: Is "MS Paint" a valid art style?
|
on: March 03, 2009, 05:28:23 PM

I don't see what makes MSPaint an art style at all.
That was my first thought, too, when I read the topic. i think with MS Paint style nayon means "a thing that you COULD do with paint in a matter of minutes" While it's not what I'd normally expect to see in a finished game, I think it's just fine for graphics during alpha, and perhaps early beta. In addition, since this is the sort of graphics that's easier to create for the less artistically gifted, you could use this in some sort of closed early-beta specifically for artists so you can get them to go "This game needs some decent art.", hopefully ending up with the graphics replaced by such graphics. But for one man productions, I will likely make concessions, because programmers aren't usually the best artists, and I can imagine that after having worked on the game for so long, they would want to get it out, without having to spend a few more weeks/months on creating graphics that still won't be very good.

although I don't want to open up the source
Why? Do you plan to license it or something? If I ever create a proper gaming engine, I sure as hell ain't opening the source, doesn't mean I'll charge for it, though. Building a good, reusable across genres, engine is hard, I'd prefer it if people would have difficulty stealing my source.

Quicksaves that can only be made when quitting the game and are deleted on load should always be available.
You should not, however, be able to do something akin to Save Scumming. There should be a limited amount of places where you can save the game. Which places these are depends, of course, on the type of game, but it would be nice if dying at a boss (or similar situation) wouldn't mean having to do a long and boring part before getting to the boss again.
Of course, arcade style games might be best off with no saving at all, except previously mentioned quicksaves. (It sucks having to quit an arcade style game just when you're close to beating a highscore.)

Ina Vegt == my online handle Ina van der Vegt == The name on my few published works of fantasy and one scientific article, also my real name.
Considering that Ina is a reasonably uncommon name in my country, and pretty much unheard of in the English world, yet short and not that hard to remember, I think this works.

And Killzone II made national news, over here, at least.
You're going to have to extrapolate on that. You can't just leave us all hanging! I'm Dutch, Killzone II is made by Dutch guys, nothing interesting is happening, news needs something to say, so they resort to this.
