It's a neat idea!
Some of the games seemed really interesting!
Have you seen a huge increase in your traffic since starting the project?

It's funny, for the longest time we thought about making and selling a game of this type.
So, we're really big fans. I'll give it a play through and tell you what I think!

I would think there would be a problem with getting people to use a random CD that you made as well. You would have to package the thing just right.
Still, it's a pretty interesting idea. You should work on a huge down loadable folder that does pretty much the same thing.

Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
I just CANNOT get enough of this movie. It's so awesomely bad, it's... AWESOME.
Also, Old Boy fucking rocks and not enough people have seen this movie. It's so fucked up and I love it.

Community / Creative / Re: Coder/designer looking for an artist: How do I find that "special someone"?

By the looks of things, he needs a 2D sprite artist.
With that said, good luck! I've been in the same position (check out my older posts) as you have been even offering to pay people what little money I had, and I've never had much luck (particularly on this forum in terms of artists).
I'd be interested in knowing if / when / how you end up finding an artist.
At the end up the day, I never found an answer. Finding that special artist STILL hasn't been found and me and the other designer are just doing the best we can.
I wish you look.

Can someone explain to me why this will revolutionize my life so that I can get all hyped up about it too? All I've seen so far is that it is gmail, but with google reader attached.
I'm a bit confused as to what it does as well. My understanding is that it's an IM system that plugs into social sites. Past that, I'm not sure what is so special about it (then again, I'm not sure what's so special about twitter either). ****** That movie has so much awesomeness in it it's not even funny...

Thanks guys! I'm looking for current research into the development process of an indie and what defines indie games and ways of measuring their popularity! Okay, if you're looking into the development process I would think that your best bet is to literally just click on any of us indy developer's blog. Possibly not mine, since I'm trying to make my blog more business side of stuff. Um... check out Paul Eres' blog. His newest game should be coming up soon: Saturated Dreamers Development LogReally, there are some fantastic blogs about indy development out right now. As for ways of measuring their popularity, check out some of the forum posts here. There are lots of lists made about "Favorite Indy Games EVER" and the like. If you wanted to get more in depth than that, I would suggest checking out those lists, and then writing an actual e-mails to the developers/creaters. I hope that helps!

Yeah, I was looking at the numbers at it seems as though most indies aren't generating too much money. Still, you have to consider every option I guess it's back to the drawing board with me. Thanks for the update I appreciate it!

@ rinkuhero
Hey, are the stats you posted about the kickstarter projects a couple pages back accurate and up to date?
I'm extremely interested in starting one, but am actually in the category of thinking I need about $5000. That was actually the amount I was thinking about before it was even mentioned.
The money would go to pay bills/rent as well as being able to pay an artist for full time work.
Of course there is the issue of not being sure how to market our kickstart project.

Hey guys, I was looking at gameproducer.net and in one of the articles he mentions the kickstarter project. It's a way of generating money for your projects. I was wondering if anyone has tried this. RinkuHero I thought I read on your blog that you had tried it. Did it work well?

Hey this is my first post on this site. I'm looking to do some research into indie games for my final year project aat uni and I'm struggling to find any existing literature. Just wondered if anyone could point me in the right direction. Thanks! Didn't you post on the indiegamer forums about this same thing a while ago? In any case, I think it would help people if you were more specific in what type of research you're trying to do. Just off the top of my head the following sites are useful for indy game information: Indiegamer.comTigsourceJayIsGamesGamasutra (possibly, I don't read it that much) GamedevGameproducer.netAgain, it would help to know what specifically you're looking for. (If you're looking for statistical type of stuff, I wouldn't think you'd find much.)

We're actually going to be developing a couple of games in flash in the near future. Flash is EXTREMELY easy to learn and manage.
I actually wasn't aware that those Facebook games were made using Flash actually. Should be fun when we make our game and release them.
Does anybody know the process of submitting your game to Facebook? Is it just like a "fill out a form" type of deal?

Still it is an interesting find.
And, I wonder why the website is named after wario. I hate that fucking guy.

While I don't want games compared the same as music / film, I do wish that there was more critical discussion outside of indy gamers about the role of video games in our lives. Also, Toejam and Earl

We use Game Maker in our game. It's extremely easy to use, it's effective, and it's about to get updated (although I guess the update isn't going to change TOO much). Some pretty amazing games have been made with Game Maker: MagiImmortal DefenseIn all, it's a great tool that has a lot of value!

As bad as this, it probably won't stop. You'd hope that there would be a mass influx of devs who would say that this kind of thing needs to stop. Unfortunately, I guess there's too much money in making .99 cent downloadable games

It's funny I just saw this game in a magazine (can't remember which one) and thought it looked cool.
Just looking at it from the screenshots, it looks kind of neat and it has an interesting visual style.
Maybe I'll give it a shot later, because I could use a little hack and slash action in my life. Although the lack of story in the game is a bit disappointing.
And, yes, apparently I need to check out Demon's Soul as well.
