Um... To be honest, your original image looks better. You just ruined your contrast, plus you added dithering that serves no real purpose. It doesn't blend between two colors-- it's just-- there....

Woops yeah I totally screwed up. I think this serves as a better example

fill pink with pattern.

Huh? I thought many people knew about this. Make a 2 by 2 image, place the 2 colors you want for the dithering like so.

Go to edit>Define Pattern (near the bottom), then go to paint bucket, put it's settings from foreground to pattern, and select the pattern you made (also set to contiguous for extra lazyness).

BAM!!

cheap dithering effect

I'm going to say that photoshop is probably the best if you can get your hands on it. My favourite is being able to set custom patterns to the paint bucket, it is a great way for a quick cheap dithering effect. I guess it's because I've been a self taught photoshoop person since I was little and just got so used to it, but many good pixel artists prefer photoshop as well.

A small sci-fi adventure game that I'm helping to make is GREATLY influenced by Philip K Dick's books. I think even the simple premises he makes can build interesting gameplay-story elements provided you follow them faithfully.

Regarding the article, I think Cliffy B is streching it when he's implying people who play too much video games aren't going to experience life fully.

When I encounter a reaaalllyyy hard boss that requires good memory on his patterns and behaviors. After dying a lot I get to the point where I "get it" I know what it takes to beat him, I understand all the tricks and moves to beat him and I can kill him without taking a single hit. I guess the most satisfying moment for me is getting good at a game.

I think Konjak should do something very specific and something he probably doesn't want to do. Well, hello there!

HL2 is a lot more user-friendly. My gripe that it wasn't as fast paced as HL1. Sad

It felt like they were trying to turn it into a platformer, but the first-person camera makes platformer-like jumping puzzles hard.

I found Mirror's Edge frustating for this. But half life? Most of the jumping puzzles were really simple. Maybe it's because I'm a bunny hop god and spent most of my gaming jumping around like a grasshopper in HL1DM. Durr...?

Also, the story itself wasn't that interesting to me. Guy in secret factory, monsters appear, soldiers appear and attack all the scientists too to cover it up -- very unimaginative, with no character development, interesting characters, or anything like that.

Almost like it would happen in real life. I think the story is actually amazing if you view it in a more realistic perspective. Cause if aliens were invading and shit, you wouldn't get some prologue on what's going on, you'd be confused! I really like it when a game tries to present it's story in gameplay rather than chucking cutscenes at you (that you skip anyway).

But yeah half life 2 has a more cinematic approach (without using cutscenes) in terms of characters and at least filling you in on what's going on.

A ninja platformer about staying in the shadows and performing stealth kills rather than just ripping through your foes. Lights would actually create shadows realistically and smashing the lights would be an easy skip, but raise the alarm slightly.

Tenchu 1 and 2.

Man I really like small dogs, they make great friends with cats and children! Though don't expect them to pull you out a burning building or something. Sad

Wait, they actually had a Nintendo game help hotline? I thought that was just some kind of joke in The Wizard. Wizard

Third person Strategy Social game about Science and Cowboys with Retro Manga art and a Reggae soundtrack

Hmmm, this sounds way too generic! This generator sucks! Outraged

You are the most boring person in the world if you pick hotels over castles. Apoplectic

Well this game is pretty much as if that Windows Maze screensaver was made by some guy who just read a Dean Koontz novel. I never thought a low textured 3D game could be so atmospheric with creepy piano playing. Sure Doom had that light flickering stuff, but the emphasis on sound really sucked me in.

Story confuses the shit out of me though. Still it was really suspenseful in it's own way.

Modify: Also to the WASD peeps, stop living in the present. Noir

An anime FPS with crazy guns and giant robots? Fuck yeah, too bad it had to be released the same time around Half Life 1 creamed the FPS world.
