Yes, i make my game myself.

As well as Blitzmax, the code has been ported to flash, which you can find here: http://www.draknek.org/flash/blobmonster/

Glow's easy! It's what you do with it that counts!

Glad you liked it!

Very interesting and nice looking.  Did you make some sort of editor to make the monsters in?

This would also go really well in some sort of system where the creatures change based on evolution.  Great job!

No editor, just trig. I'm sure it could be adapted to allow the creatures you make to evolve over time or depending on certain parameters. At present you can already change the number of body segments, but you could certainly make changes to allow a greater variety of shapes for the little fins etc. Take a look at the code!

The super awesome Draknek has ported the blob monster code to flash/flashpunk! Same link: http://www.charliesgames.com/wordpress/?p=441

Hi,

I've made a little code tutorial focusing on how to animate stuff with trig, specifically it's about animating little blob monsters like i made for my Irukandji game last year. It's up on my website here: http://www.charliesgames.com/wordpress/?p=441. The actual code, which i've tried to comment pretty well is linked from that page in a zip file. There's a video of the code running at the bottom of that page.

It's fairly simple stuff, but not totally beginner friendly i guess. The code is written in Blitzmax, but should be pretty easily converted to other languages, so long as your video library supports rotating, scaling and blending images/quads.

I'm really interested in hearing what people think of this, as i'd like to do some more code tutorials, but i'd rather be doing things people actually want to learn about rather than just some stuff that i like but no one else give a crap about. Let me know what you think!

I find the movie maker that comes with XP more practical the the iMovie thing on my Mac. It also seems to import a wider variety of movie codecs.

I smoke. I worked my habit up from a patch or two a day to a 40 a day unfiltered roll up dependency.

Seriously though, as suave, sophisticated AND cool as smoking will make you, you probably shouldn't start. It's not an easy habit to shake.

I'm entering Scoregasm this year. I wasn't going to, but people seemed to really like it at eurogamer the other weekend and i understand the judging process has changed a little this year.

it's not really spam but probably should go in 'announcements' not 'indie games'

good luck with the sale

Ah, ok. Perhaps a moderator could move it!

Hi all,

I'm running a pay what you want sale until Sunday, well sort of anyway. There's a minimum of $1 to cover fees and stuff. Basically, for your donation you'll receive at least 2 games, Irukandji and Bullet Candy Perfect. For anyone kind enough to donate $12 i throw a pre-order of Scoregasm in too.

I'm trying to raise a few buckaroos to finish Scoregasm, and pay license fees etc. I'm actually writing games for a living now, and it can get pretty scary sometimes!  Shocked

Here's the link: http://www.charliesgames.com/wordpress/?p=307

If you need any further persuasion on the two games on offer, Destructoid thought Irukandji was one of the better releases of last year, and Indie Game Magazine like Bullet Candy Perfect enough to give it a 93% score. Plus, you get Mac, Windows and Linux versions of each game, and you can choose to send the games as a gift if you so wish.

Sorry if this is a bit spammy. Communication is easily the most difficult part of being an indie developer.  Embarrassed

That's looking pretty nice. I like some of the reflection effects you got going there.

Thanks Man! Smiley I'm pretty happy with how the game looks. It's even better in motion!

If i'm still in London on the Saturday I'll be there! I'm not exactly sure how i'm fixed yet though. My little brother lives in London somewhere, so i'm hoping to crash at his on friday night, just need to get a hold of his phone number from someone...
