thanks for the replies.. we figured (my friend is going to help me.. eventually.. hopefully Tongue) that combat would be a good start.. The map is a fixed size, a small number of units to keep track of, and actions few and simple...  balancing would definitly take some doing.. but it's worth a try!

Hey guys, I've been looking to try my hand at games for a long time, and I think I've finally found a project that I could possibly do...

How many of you guys have played the game Master(s?) of Magic? It was an old dos game that was basically Civ 2 with wizards spells and fantasy creatures... The combat was tactic's like, similar to a might and magic heroes kind of style (but no unit stacking)...

I've decided to attempt a clone of the game, starting with the combat system... it has a finite map, units, and options, and yet should delve into some of the more useful side of game design... I'm going to be using C# and XNA... I've got a friend who is going to be helping me when he's finished school (hopefully).

I just wanted to know what you guys thought of the original game, and if you think it'd be a good project to take on? I'll give you a screenshot of what I've got so far.. basically an isometric map with units that you can click on to move them one direction...

hmm... thought it should probably add some more info...

I'm from Ontario, Canada.. which is Eastern time (-5), I have no problem communicating by email/forum so timezones need not be a big deal. I'm a GIS - Application Specialist by trade, which means I do custom programming and design for mapping and spatial data. I work for a County here in Canada, at the moment I'm mainly doing mapping websites using FLEX (flash).

I'm pretty flexible as far as a language/engine, but I'm most comfortable with C#, tho I know some Java, Python, and Flash to a small extent.

As far as games I like them all (and my possible ideas run the gammut) except for sports games. unless it involves robots Smiley

sounds interesting... unfortunately I as well do not have any projects that warrant the need for music at this point... I'll keep you in mind however!

if it was truly the reason for the attacks, it's just sad... since not only did he never promise his weekly updates (they just happened), he had already announced a huge update for Halloween... He's one guy, he's starting a business, hiring people, renting a space... its not surprising that he couldn't keep up the weekly updates...

It's a dumb excuse, and it was a useless attempt...

Well, I know I'm new to the forum, I spent some time on IRC today to feel out the community, and TIG seems to be somewhere I could find people of like mind... I am a programmer by trade (not involving games), i'm not useless at art, but I feel I am very skilled at game design, from stories to controls, to innovation...

I have dozens and dozens of ideas, but I lack the programming skills and experience to properly test out my theories.

I would love to put together a casual game design team to possibly work on any number of projects I have floating around in my head. The details can be discussed if there is anyone willing to take part, obviously starting small at first but possibly building to more significant projects.

If you are interested please let me know!
