This is an old game written in C++ that I've had in plan doing ... an RPG action thing where you are this Mad Hippie goin' around the world, solving problems, fighting this furious zombie ducks that want your blood. It supposed to be full of different weapons, opponents, lots of blood and gore and lots of fun, but I never really finished it ... or even got to the phase where there's actually something to do besides killing this duckies. I quit early on, kind of sorry about that when I look at it now ... oh yeah, ignore that little white square ... it got there when I resized the shots, don't know why

6 years of music school -> piano player. Though I've given up on professionally playing it, now I just play for fun. Themes from games like zelda, pokemon, super mario, etc., a little bit of Chopin here and there and wow that guy on the Euphonium rocks!

Well I don't have a specific type of music that I listen to when programming, but classical and jazz are prevalent. And yes as Netsu said, lyrics can be distracting. Sometimes though, I listen to some rock/metal band album
And then later whenever I hear that album I remember how I felt back then ...

wow haven't been here a day and all this posts came up thank you guys Yes, I agree with everyone. It is plain wrong to just blatantly copy an idea as in the nifflas' case. And yes, I forgot that Minecraft is a spiritual successor to Infiniminer, so I guess my question was already answered before I even asked it Good artists steal, Bad copy -> I like that one yes, inspired ideas must improve or take a turn, and one should always put themselves in it - that's true. I also like that Jim Jarmusch quote very much, thank you for that, guillermo. Thanks for all your thoughts, it means a lot to me. Might as well start working on "Craftmine" *walks away ignorantly*

I sort of like Cactusquid's view on the concept. If you're going to ripoff an idea, at least try to make it better than the original.
I don't think there's anything wrong with taking an idea that could've been executed better and refining it.
But if your game is worse than the original, then, well...
That's an interesting point of view, but still I wouldn't feel alright if, by any chance, the game I made overshadowed the 'original' one.

game play that will turn every major life event into a game of strategy.
So to say, it would be a Game of Life? Art looks and feels nice. Have you made the engine yourself? If so, what language are you using?

Hey guys, What do you think, is borrowing ideas plagiarism? Is it wrong to take a few core ideas from someone else's work and implant it in yours? Let's say if i were to create 'something like Minecraft' that is visually the same (everything is made out of blocks) but with a lot of original ideas in it, with a lot of differences. Would you say that it's just 'that type of game' and not stealing? Could i say that I were greatly inspired by the game but had no intention of stealing the original idea? Would like to hear your opinions

Perhaps you could add an option to change the color hue, so you can have major, minor, harmonic minor and diatonic chords. The darker colors, blue, gray and black could symbolize minor, and the brighter colors, yellow, white, green, red, could symbolize major. It would be fun to experiment and fiddle around with it and make awesome tunes. And not to mention you made it in just 2 days! Though I'm not familiar with openframeworks but I still got to say it's very cool

warning, this post contains copious amounts of philosophy. those who are allergic to philosophy are not advised to read further. Life has no inherent meaning. (This is a theory of mine; or so I think) The highest abstraction of life one can make is with Systems and Entities. It's a simple idea. Every entity resides within a system. A system is merely a set of entities and other systems. Let's give an example: A system can be your school. It contains smaller systems called Classes, within these there are Students, which are also a system of it's own. Now, with all that, let's make a proposition: Every entity (system) has value, but this value can only be determined by comparing with other entities (systems). Thus, entity's value is not absolute. For example, no game is good by itself. It becomes good or bad when comparing it to other games. Conclusion; Life is a System. It's value cannot be defined by entities and systems that reside within life itself. Thus, one cannot find life's meaning while he's within life, i.e. alive. P.S. And No! Don't kill yourself for god's sake! Live!

Wow, that looks very cool. The engine is running smoothly, nice. I like karts and I like shooting stuff so ... a good mix it is! It took you quite some time to make this, if you started on A6 , but considering you're a lone developer that is still awesome!

This is so beautiful and artistic, the idea is splendid. It has potential to be one of the most emotion- evoking games out there. The sentence Thus, the operation is only done to people on their deathbeds, to fulfill what they wish they had done with their lives. . . but didn't. has really got to me. So sad, but inspiring ... Can't wait to see the game finished

@chumez - I've tried to download that album several times but either my internet sucks or his servers are hammered, probably a bit of both.
Hey! glad you're listening to it too. I've just downloaded it, you should try again And I've just remembered an awesome soundtrack from an awesome game ... listening to it on loop ... Cave Story - Moonsong

What is Your dream game...? The one you've always wanted to make, but never had enough time, people, willpower? Describe how Your dream game would look like. As for me, I've always wanted to create an overhead-view RPG with lots of characters and places to visit ... or a multiplayer open world game where one could freely roam, explore and drool over the scenery
