Those videos look kind of cool.
If someone makes a demake they could call it.. Guitar Hero.
I'm joking, I'm joking!

Oh snap, it's a new decade and a new GDC.
Tigsourcers always meet up at these events right? I forgot to check at the AGDC last year.

Fun fact: when I mix spirits with weed, I always black out within half an hour, usually for five hours or so. As in, I don't pass out. I continue to function and do things, I just have a massive patch of total blankness in my memory afterwards.

This is the sort of weed you get in England, of course. The genetically-engineered, stupidly-named "super skunk" (as the media call it). The stuff you have in America, at least where I've been on the East coast, is much nicer - smoother and less sledgehammery.

Also, CAsinclair, "keep it to yourself" is a stupid position to maintain, unless you're going to apply it all blanket-like to ever other facet of reality. It's interesting that you think an experience insignificant which reveals the inherent subjectivity (and fallibility) of your perception of the world and of reality.

X3N, Timothy Leary was an idiot and took psychedelic use too far. Best not to quote him, really. (Just to be clear, I'm criticising Timothy Leary, and not the use of psychedelics. The psychedelic question is a complex one, and I'm in the middle of packing to return to university so will have to avoid it.)

I would agree that Leary went overboard with the acid-preaching. My point about instrument-investigation: just trying to point out the inherent subjectivity in perception. From personal experience drugs have been useful to me as a tool for this, and I'm encouraging the "end" of subjectivity awareness, whatever the hell any individuals "mean" is.

ps. I "tripped" (sudden awareness of subjectivity and feeling the disappearance of mental constructs) more intensely in an intense yoga session than my first two+ acid trips. I'd definitely recommend yoga more than acid, too.

What I'm trying to say is.. think about your thinking!

I got interviewed on a radio show about my gaming career / iPhone development (first game launched! will make a thread once I get good screencasting software ie, later this weekend).
I'd like to make a thread, does it go in Indie Games? Or General?

I like it when the computers use some AI, with a bit of randomness.
Like advancing when your backs turned / retreating when you're facing. You have to struggle a bit to catch up, and watch your positioning so you don't get surrounded.
When the AIs intentionally circle around you and hit from both sides, that's pretty cool.
Weapon powerups work well too, I think.

I encourage everyone turn on, tune in and drop out at least once in their life - for the sake of figuring out if you exist apart from your environment. A significant ontological question. Doesn't have to be drugs. Maybe one day, you realize the world you're in seems pretty fabricated, so you listen to your self instead of the psychologies you tend to believe is yourself. Maybe you live alone. Maybe you try to lose your mind. Maybe you take drugs as a way of providing novel sensations, but that would just be another form of sedation.
To be honest, I don't buy all this "mind expansion" stuff. I know a few people who are or were into psychedelics (most notably my dad) and most of them are obnoxious bullshit-spewing idiots. I dunno, thinking you just gained some deep insight on the universe via a chemically-induced hallucination seems ridiculous to me.

And I seriously hate it when people try to get other people into drugs. Keep it to yourself.
I wasn't encouraging the specific use of drugs so much as encouraging a serious attempt at introspection / figuring stuff out. We kind of run automatically (bodily systems, sub-conscious etc), I think it's a fascinating mystery to figure out, as opposed to just taking in the sensations / looking at experiences passively. We spend a lot of our lives looking at our experiences, but how much at the instruments we use to observe them?
507  Developer / Technical / Re: [Appstore] My app shows up in iTunes but not on my iPod's search, halp! on: January 05, 2010, 10:55:50 PM
When I search on the app store on my ipod it turns up in searches for both "enlightenment" and "enlightenment vision".

EDIT: By the way, I think this would be one of the subjects Apple's developer forum would be good at answering

Yours but.. not.. mine  WTF
Are you in the USA? (I am). I bought it on iTunes, synced  with my iPod and ran fine. Wondering if country has anything to do with it. E-mailed a local programmers newsgroup, someone said it might take a day or so to show up on the store.

Hi, I made a physics arcade game (with a metaphorical twist!) called Enlightenment Vision, and I see it available on iTunes, but when I do a search for "Enlightenment" on my iPod my app isn't shown. I didn't get an e-mail from Apple announcing its launch though, which is strange. (I got one a few days ago for a naming inconsistency in the binary). I sent Apple an e-mail but I'm wondering if anyone else has had this issue? Promo code available for the best answer Smiley

Cheers

Societies always just try to take more and more control over people, until the people wake up and abandon them...

Alcohol's a drug. Caffeine's a drug.
The chemical addiction to certain forms of socialization, or mediated information, could be considered drugs.. the "war on drugs" is actually a war on psychedelics & more dangerous narcotics.. but drugs that make you silly, or focused on accomplishing things, are legal.. one's that can kill you or offer you reflective experiences are not.. the word hypocrisy comes to mind.. and some conspiracy theories about wanting to keep a bunch of smart monkeys happy, productive, and sedated. thematrixhasyou
..does anyone else remember being brainwashed in kindergarten? or highschool? or college? or by your family?

I encourage everyone turn on, tune in and drop out at least once in their life - for the sake of figuring out if you exist apart from your environment. A significant ontological question. Doesn't have to be drugs. Maybe one day, you realize the world you're in seems pretty fabricated, so you listen to your self instead of the psychologies you tend to believe is yourself. Maybe you live alone. Maybe you try to lose your mind. Maybe you take drugs as a way of providing novel sensations, but that would just be another form of sedation.

..I'm speaking from experience. I've gone through some pretty crazy experiences, and some pretty bizarre.. coincidences. Maybe I've activated my chi. Maybe the matrix has activated my mind. Maybe I've gone mad. But such descriptions become meaningless on the other side of the open door.

/soapbox, thank you for your time.

Why doesn't Inform understand my English?
Kidding. This language is still kinda weird though.. kinda makes me want to pick up a Python text adventure engine I was working on. I'll try again to get used to Inform  Cool

Just thought I'd share Smiley.

That is so messed up.

Whilst I was watching it, I kept thinking it was like some sort of fucked up Bible story, and then it got to the end, and I realised I was right. My goodness.

Yeah, it's pretty fucked up. Man makes machine makes man..

Was brought up in the "mario kart of FPS" thread. I checked it out, damn its fun! .. but no one plays on this north-american continent, apparently, so I went back to Trem. Anyways, does anyone on the USA here play Warsow? I'd like to give it a shot playing vs actual people but with less than 100 ping  Cool

518  Player / General / Re: I just saw Matrix for the first time in my life. on: January 04, 2010, 11:48:40 AM
I didn't even think you were supposed to understand it, I thought of it more like a collage of scenes designed to convey the strangeness of time travel.

this is exactly what I read it as. I thought the convoluted story was more of a metaphor for how Aaron becomes completely immoral when he discovers his actions have no consequences, via the way he can undo anything he wants.

I interpreted the ridiculous recursion and messy plot lines in the last 30 minutes or so as showing how Aaron starts to unravel when he finds that the rules towards social interactions suddenly don't apply to him any more. He screws over his best friend and becomes obsessed with being seen as a hero at the party, because if he can then why shouldn't he?

i'm either reading too much into this or not enough

I think the convoluted story occurred because of immorality and distrust; Aaron started the failsafe from the beginning, remember? And the other guy started recording things as well, because he was doing his own experimentation, and when he realized Aaron had already beat him to it, (the blood out of the ear, and then the misquoted conversation at the bench) he falls over, stunned, realizing that they've both been trying to outplay each other. So, the characters do "unravel" but the recursive plot does make sense - they both were smart enough to take advantage of it, and later realized the other was too.. pretty intriguing to think about - if you were one of them (and had your head around recursive time traveling) - what would you do? Why not make a failsafe.. just in case something went wrong.. just to have that extra control, a safety "reset" switch?

I vaugely understood Primer by the second viewing, it took another 2 to really sort things out. Great movie! A real mindfuck.
