Oh hey, I think I'll take the trash out, by going through the garAAAAAAAUUGH! It's the raccoon skin my brother shot and skinned. What shall he do with it?

Wear it, and use his ability to change into stone to fight the forces of Peta.

make a lifematch shooter where everyone is trying to kill themselves the most times, like karoshi suicide salaryman, except everyone else is armed with ways to heal others, or add shields, toss medpack grenades, can blast someone into a protective hamster ball-like bubble to prevent fall damage for a little while, can melt spikes so instead of dying they get stuck for a little bit, or stick them in a straitjacket they have to wiggle out of, etc. so you are trying to rack up the most suicides yourself but also score for preventing other peoples deaths.

make a flight simulator where the craft are different kinds of birds.

make a 3d version of musical chairs, but with weapon pickups.

make a shoplifting simulator where half the players spawn as shoplifters who have to try and blend in with the npc shoppers, and the other half as security guards who have to tackle would-be thieves (without getting false positives)

make a game that exploits a 'telephone' game situation - it sets up a different complicated win condition each round that requires collaboration to achieve in a relatively short amount of time, but only one honest player receives the win condition that round and players can only communicate by locking into a brief hand-covered-mouth held to ear whisper session (in which they lose a bit of valuable game time but have a chance to type a few sentences to the receiving player). There are 3 players who initially get the win condition, one who wins that round if it is met (along with all the normal players) and two griefers who win if they can spread enough misinformation to prevent the win condition being met.

oh wait, ludum dare... 48 hours... and you aren't asking for game ideas, just the genre. nevermind, disregard. will post anyway since Molydeux died

I've got a big [CENSORED] and I'm incredible in bed.

Their words, not mine.

Derek said that?! Shocked

Yeah, I'd take that with a grain of salt. I have it on good authority [internet porn] that asians think anything over 4 inches is redonculous

I'm surprised no one has claimed nunchuck skills yet. Have fun dying virgins, wusses
148  Player / General / Re: Movies on: November 19, 2011, 07:29:26 PM
Yeah it was spanish and pretty low budget.  I had added it to my list of things I wanted to see a long time ago but forgotten about it. What are the spanish horror movies you're not into, you think Pan's Labyrinth was too hyped? I thought it was pretty pimp
149  Player / General / Re: Movies on: November 19, 2011, 05:11:21 PM
I saw Timecrimes, which I had been wanting to see for awhile. Enjoyed it, and loved the reveal of the villain.

Drive was good, refreshingly pure take on the hero and kind of weird mixture of tone (which was interesting).

I've been renting a bunch of Miyazaki movies, going to gift a real copy of Howl's Moving Castle to my niece for Christmas and then include burnt copies of a handful of others I think she might like (humble Miyazaki bundle), I've got My Neighbor Totoro, Nausica of the Valley of the Wind, Castle in the Sky, and Spirited Away copied, Castle of Cagliostro didn't seem like it would interest her and not sure which else to include. Will try and rent Kiki's delivery service and that should probably do it. Oh, and princess mononoke duh, need that one.

And I saw Descendants, I don't really have much family so it's nice to see some family drama every now and then. Feel by proxy

Next week Cronenberg's latest gets released, consider me hyped! Psychologist drama or something, whatever. I love Cronenberg. this one has viggo (of course) and Magneto, should rock

er, didn't you name the game with some off hand comment?

aw, looks like peter molydeux twitter account was suspended. Wonder if Molyneux complained?
153  Player / General / Re: Writing quality v story on: November 17, 2011, 12:01:32 PM
Skill in using language is something that's not easy to build up an appreciation of. It's the same for many things. Can a non-tennis fan judge the relative skill of tennis players just from watching them play rather than the scores? Without concrete, easy to understand results that comes as a result of skill, there'd probably be less interest in sport, but a person who is a big fan of watching tennis, who also practices playing it, would get a lot out of just watching skilled players, rather than just being interested in the result.

I think writing quality ought to be thought of as including anything that people would want out of writing. I often think of a written work as being like an animal: there's many aspects that make up the fitness of the whole. Plot = skeleton. Writing style = skin. Characters = muscle. Theme/message = nervous system. Etc.

If you could make animals as a creative pursuit, would you value a beautiful skin over a strong skeleton?

this is good write. ham and brie on rye

lolling at the mental imagery of 'hardcore' readers, "Shakespeare invented the English language" and boring inscrutable Faulkner shit being the gtfo noob of the academic set. Like everyone has an inherent quantity of sperg, and they just alotted their upgrades to being a musty douchebag. "well, if you think about it"

uh... but Tanooki's have ridiculously large testicles, which must give them near lethal blood testerone content. Surely this wouldn't sit right with Peta's 90% militant feminist constituency. DOES NOT COMPUTE

but the '10,000 hour' figure might be based on the common loose interpretation of hours worked since it's from polls or surveys or whatever.

Anyone that recommends heroine should be executed. Not joking.
Agreed. I hate heroines. Heroes are so much cooler (cue TIGSource sexism debate).
j/k

The funny thing is heroin is named after 'hero', the marketing guys at Bayer wanted it to sound awesome. It was supposed to be a morphine replacement that wasn't addictive (oops).
157  Developer / Playtesting / Re: EXCIT for android - 90 speedy puzzle levels in excel look on: November 06, 2011, 04:48:47 PM
I like it (played the kong version, don't have an android). It does seem to be kind of PC centric to me, a lot of the charm seems to come from the fact that you are used to an excel interface on your machine being work, and here it is made a toy. There's a real possibility you lose some of that charm when you put it on a phone. Maybe a PC release, where the player can make their own levels in excel and the game loads them as .csv files? Or a version that actually runs in excel (ok, probably a lot of work for not a lot of payoff but people have made tetris games and stuff in excel:

)

I dunno, I liked playing the game, it reminded me of some of the aspects of chip's challenge (which I like) and with a very cool presentation. None of the issues other people mentioned are problems for me (the addition of the turning pieces / the non-pixel graphics are great to me). But it seems more at home on PC, and I have still yet to pay more than 99 cents for a phone game.

What brwoser do you use? Try it on chrome

Works fine in Aurora (Firefox Alpha).  Wink

I had to do it in chrome, for not quite as much fun google "tilt" - works in obsolete browsers that can't do a barrel roll
