Jobs / Offering Paid Work / Project MONOLITH - Low-res cartoonist needed
|
on: October 25, 2011, 04:00:05 AM
|
Last December, I posted a request for a character and background artist for our fantasy platform RPG. Well, I received no serious replies, but I did manage to find a great musician in Jamie Billings, who has completed the entire score for the production already (she's an amazing musician and also very personable and friendly, I strongly recommend her to any serious game developer!). This project had to be put on hold for a few months, as a previous project had resumed. That project is now completed and in queue for manufacturing, so this project is back to work, and with it comes a need for more talent. We are seeking an artist who can draw cartoon-like cutscenes utilizing basic animation. The work is very low-resolution (most scenes will only use a portion of the 256x224 pixel screen) and low-color, which can be a challenge. Many of the scenes required are moving-mouth-type scenes. Here is a recent screenshot of the game engine's Village subprogram: 3x zoom to show pixel detail. Also, here are some mockups of other areas in the works: These use actual game art, but are not screenshots. The subprograms for these areas are not quite finished yet, though one of them will be finished up today (the Dark Castle). Here is an old video posted to youtube (from April of this year), which has much of the original art I developed myself, as well as some of the music Ms. Billings has composed for the production: A new video will be put up within the next few days, featuring all the newer artwork. The production I headed previously, Mysterious Song Remake, can be found here: http://www.frozenutopia.com/and videos featuring my work on that production can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/user/FrozenUtopiaThe price for the artwork is negotiable. We prefer to work on a royalty/profit-share basis, but we are open to other arrangements. We require a contract signing, no exceptions. You can contact me on this forum, on the Frozen Utopia form, on the Eponasoft blog, on either youtube channel I run (FrozenUtopia or Eponasoft), via email at david AT eponasoft DOT com, or via telephone or snail mail.

Update: We have released a working game demo on our site. It's more than a mere tech demo but it's not quite a finished game; it's playable but not complete. Many of the new pixels were drawn by myself, but we're still open to applicants; I have enough work with coding to do the art as well.

You might have more luck if you post either mockups or in-game screenshots using placeholder art. I personally am working on a platformer at the moment; I finally realized that platformers are my calling and my level designs tend to be pretty damn sick so if you need help with level design, I'll throw my name into the hat.

Hooray, I finally managed to make some bricks that don't totally suck! Since we can't find a tile artist, I figured I would take a stab at it myself. This is my first attempt at some decent brick tiles. I still have a ton of work to do, but hey... step by step, right?

Hidden / Unpaid Work / Re: [WANTED] Musician that know XM file format.

I am using the library DUMB. Been awhile since I used DUMB, but I always felt that the name suited it. It chokes up on way too many files because its parser is inadequate. I've never had any problems at all with other libraries, such as bass, FMOD, or just good old SDL_mixer. What's your target platform?

Modplug is a very good tracker for XM format as well, and it has a MIDI interface available.
I started out with XM, but have also done S3M for GDM conversion and also, of course, IT. From the sound on the youtube video, my style is not compatible with your game, plus I haven't tracked in a few years so I'm rusty anyways.
Out of curiosity, why the XM format? What sound library are you using?

Update: We have found a character artist but are now in the market for a background artist. We can offer a 10% profit share for a sole tile artist for this production. Same contact details as per the original post. We have also released a prototype of the current game engine to the public.

cataclysmos: I've sent you a response. I hope we get the chance to work together. Cellulose: I believe I understand what you were trying to say, and I would tend to agree. It seems that the internet can truly be the doldrums of the mediocre, which means that there's always going to be a whole mess of losers who target females as if they existed only as pieces of meat to be eaten at their leisure. It creates an uncomfortable position for ladies and can be hard to overlook. That's why I personally completely ignore one's gender and focus on their abilities, their personality, and their willingness to work out a proper deal to get the job done. I can't tell you how many times I've been on programming forums dominated by males that flock like lemmings to the first person gutsy enough to reveal that they're female. It's nauseating.

Oracle, if you are still open to projects, Eponasoft has a relatively large production that is in need of a character animator and we can provide you the equipment you are looking for.

One unprofessional lamer shouldn't get in the way of a diverse collaboration. You're going to find such people everywhere. The important thing is to simply ignore them and move on to something better. Some people just don't understand the fact that a picture of a pretty lady isn't an invitation for a bedmate.

Eponasoft may be looking to hire a musician for our current production. We are presently working on a fantasy/medieval-themed game. I have reviewed the work you have posted on your website and I feel that it is certainly up to par, and your style is likely to mesh well with our intended presentation. If this is something you might have some interest in, we'll be in touch.

Eponasoft is looking for a character artist for our in-production fantasy platform RPG. This is a profit-share-based paid position. The job is expected to last approximately four months (from now until April 2011), and will involve working on various animated sprites under very specific restrictions. Eponasoft is offering a 25% profit share on all sales of the product, which is currently scheduled to be released in July 2011. Interested applicants, please send an inquiry to dave at eponasoft dot com, and please be sure to send a watermarked example of your work.
You can see the current progress of our production at our website. We are also likely to release more prototype builds to the public; one has already been released on another forum.

We at Eponasoft are looking for a startup artist, but we're not really looking for free work; we are offering a 25% profit share for pixel art for our current production, which will be commercially released in 2011. I will be posting about it in the Jobs section shortly, so take a look if you are interested.

Community / Townhall / Re: The Obligatory Introduce Yourself Thread

One obligatory introduction coming up! I normally go by the name of "Nodtveidt", and together with "Rhiannon", my wife, we are Eponasoft. We are a small independent game studio based in Camuy, Puerto Rico. I myself am a 25 year veteran programmer with a few commercial titles to my credit and a few more in the works. My wife is a bilingual writer and is also aesthetically gifted. Well, others posted pics of themselves, so I guess I'll follow suit. In case you're wondering... I'm the one on the left.
