Hey guys, I wanna make a game about frogs, and need a nice pixel artist. I...really don't care about the bits. I'd prefer 8 or 16, or something that looks like it... WHO WILL JOIN ME? (please?) PM me, if you're interested.

INTELLIGENT FROG FAMILYWelcome to the thread of "Intelligent Frog Family". This is a platformer being made from Game Maker, and it includes frogs, after-end of world environment, and technology replaced nature. This thread has different characters from the game talking through it, and you must unlock the redacted parts of the story and explaination.

Those are where you get general updates not related to the story.
Design: The game is going to be a platformer, where you control two characters, in a way. But, what happens is you play them both as the same time. There is projectiles and find-able upgrades. The two characters are a frog and abandoned, old-modeled robot.
Story: In 2514, robots have taken control over the world, taking it into their own hands to "protect" it from imperfect, organic beings. They wouldn't let the nuclear war that sent the world into the state where they HAD to protect it happen again, right? A lone frog family that lives in a log cabin were attacked by two robot soldiers that were sent by the new controller of the world located at the core of the planet, Genesis. The father frog lets his son escape into a secret underground route while he is taken by the robots. Then, they encounter a town of mysterious creatures (not robots) called "Senji". In the town, his son finds the only hope left to end the robotic overlord madness--another robot. The internal memory was erased, but it appears nice enough, so he befriends it. Are these beings nice? Can a frog and his robot friend stop the evil overlords of the Earth? Why am I asking YOU these questions?
Welcome to Intelligent Frog Family.

Well, the setting is in limbo of dimensional travel. So...yeah. It can really be anywhere.
That seems like a cop-out to me. But, you do have the potential to make your levels REALLY WEIRD, since they are in another dimension. The game could even be figuring out how the laws of physics work in each level. Which is the point of the last, Broken, dimension.

I love TV tropes, but I kinda want to pull away from too much cliche...then again, it's just a basic free, first game of mine. I'm sharing it on here though so...
gah conflict
It's pretty much impossible to avoid cliche and as TVTropes says on the front page, cliches are not inherently bad. Just think about inventive ways to combine them and you should be fine. For example, combining an icy setting with a mechanical one to make a lab in the Arctic. Then you can add a hot setting as the inner core. Or, an undersea setting with technological wreckage, for a sunken high-tech city. Of course, I prefer to come up with a setting beforehand and then base everything off locations thereof... Well, the setting is in limbo of dimensional travel. So...yeah. It can really be anywhere.
