1  Jobs / Offering Paid Work / Senior C++ Programmer Required - Permanent or Contract on: August 23, 2012, 04:49:34 AM
Hi all,

We're looking for a permanent programmer but would definitely be interested to hear from contractors who match this description as well.

Mode 7 is an award-winning independent game development studio based in Oxfordshire. Our most recent project is the strategy game Frozen Synapse.

We are looking for a highly talented and experienced senior programmer who is happy to work as part of a small hard-working team. You must be self-motivated and reliable, able to adapt quickly and make your own decisions.

You will have been the sole or lead programmer on various systems and will have held professional programming positions for several years.

You will be working with our Lead Artist to build custom rendering solutions which meet his needs, and also with our Lead Programmer on creating game and networking systems. You will be personally ready to meet the challenge of working on innovative indie games; learning new skills will not be an issue for you.

We offer somewhat flexible hours and opportunities to work from home after an initial period. We also encourage employees to attend both mainstream industry and indie events!

Required:

Extensive knowledge of C++

Experience with either openGL or DirectX in a modern renderer

Experience with a high-level scripting language

Knowledge of server-client asynchronous programming

Ability to work in our South Oxfordshire office

Games industry experience

Desirable:

Work on at least one AAA title

Experience with animation systems

Knowledge of the Torque game engines (especially Torque 3D)

Experience compiling projects under Linux, OSX, and iOS

What you will be doing in this job:

Adding features to and optimising our deferred renderer

Working on an improved animation system for our engine

Porting large parts of our renderer and engine to OSX and Linux

Working on an in-game store system

Maintaining and upgrading our game server back-end

Working directly with both the Lead Artist and Lead Programmer to help them execute their vision

Pushing yourself in new directions!

Salary:

DOE

Please mail Paul Taylor  (paul at mode7games dot com) with your CV and covering letter.
2  Jobs / Offering Paid Work / Experienced freelance C++ programmer needed for Frozen Synapse team on: September 07, 2011, 03:49:11 AM
Hi,

We're Mode 7, the team behind indie strategy game Frozen Synapse.

If you're interested in short-term contract programming work, and you have a solid amount of professional C++ experience (as well as ideally some knowledge of Torque) then please shoot me over your resume to paulmode7 at gmail dot com.

We often have small tasks that we outsource, so if that sounds interesting then drop me a line.

UK location is a plus due to time zone differences but that's not critical.

Thanks.

That's truly unfortunate.  I apologise for any offence caused.

That's so prosaic.  How about "TIGsausages"?

I'm an indie game biz guy and musician. I co-own Mode 7 Games, do a weekly podcast called Visiting the Village and write for Computer Music magazine in the UK about game music, among many other things.

Thanks for the warm welcome so far, Tigsource!

Episode 7 out now!  Thanks for ongoing support, Tigsourcers.

Thanks Craig - glad you like the new intro.  We'll probably rework it in some way soon, but for now we'll just do this and keep things a bit shorter.

Anything you think we should cover in an upcoming show?

We have a new episode up - we've cut the intro and you guys even got a mention...

What does "visiting the village" signify? Is it supposed to be like adventurers coming back from the dungeon and talking to townspeople? It's a bit unclear.

It's a dangerously intricate network of metatextual signification.

Thanks for the heads up on the intro music - I'll try and trim it down a bit.

I like how you are British.

Nope, we just talk like that to get girls.

Is that racist?

Liking British people can get you into all kinds of trouble.

Cheers for all the feedback so far - we're recording ep6 today - should be out tomorrow.  I'd really appreciate any suggestions of places I could post to promote the cast too...

Thanks for that!  Sorry you thought the intro was too long - I composed the music so I'm a tad precious about it.  Maybe we should cut it a little...

We recently launched a new podcast focusing on some of the quirkier mainstream gaming stories, and also on the indie scene.

At Mode 7 Games, we've been working on our forthcoming title for AGES, so we thought we'd do something to enable us to emerge from our cave a little bit.  Please check out the show if you have time. Thanks!
