What do you guys think of my updated character? He will most likely be close the the resolution he is right here:

The character is looking cool, but i think the shading is making it look a bit flat, try to keep in mind the whole 3d shape of the object when shading
But yeah im rubbish at explaining things so i did a very quick edit to try and show what i mean

Im not great myself but i hope it helps

this is cute! the numbers aren't really the same lofi style though  Sad
Thanks man Smiley, about the numbers do you mean like the font or style or just in general? But yeah now that you've mentioned it i do see that they don't quite sit right haha

@Jackwhat  Epileptic So nice

@Quarry, cheers man yeah i'v changed the colours again since, but in the interest of not clogging the thread i wont post
But yeah not planning on really taking it any further so it doesn't need to be perfect
Also much prefer the first one, the border kinda merges into the land a bit in the second

@Eigen, Thanks man, yeah i've been following your work on pioneers, so more than likely some inspiration came from it :p. If only mine looked anywhere near as good as yours!

This look any better?

Reduced and simplified the ui, also changed the tree colours (however it doesn't seem like a good day for leaf colour picking :/)
Also does the thing in the speech bubble read as bread? a 4x6 space is quite small...

@Ozoh Thanks, will probably change the font at some point. Also that looks cool, do let it become something Smiley

Inspired by all of Quarry's posts

Had a go at mocking up a survival game thing myself

Thanks for the suggestions Gabriel, look any better?

Changed the clouds as well to try and make it more consistent with the other mockup i did, think they look slightly better, although not sure

Epileptic Looks amazing!

Noel that looks awesome!

Trying to practice doing rocks, as i cannot ever get them to look right. Also the background is still quite rough. Really busy with work at the moment, so progress on this game is going veryyy slowly :/

Here, I toned the blur "area" down.

And here I added more blur, making it look smoothier in some sense.

Both look awesome! not sure which i prefer. Would love to see more stuff in this style!

Looks awesome man. Love the style and the blur looks cool but yeah i agree, maybe toned down a little. Don't remove it entirely though!

Anybody can think of a way to display such island (from programmer view)?
Like, using tiles wouldn't be the way to go... or it would be?
Or to display whole island as one sprite??
It is made up mostly of tiles, however there is the odd bit where something is drawn in just to make it work and stuff. But yeah it'd probably be easier to just draw the whole island as one sprite as you'd probably get a better look easier? not sure. Dont know which way i'm gonna do it yet though

Man, are you going to actually turn this into a game? :O please say you will!
haha i am planning to yes Smiley just getting the main ideas and stuff fleshed out atm then will make a proper start on it
115  Developer / Art / Re: Mockups, or the "Please say this is going to be a game" thread on: June 25, 2012, 02:45:39 AM
That looks cool! I think the rock need to be more 3D, like the texture's made of individual boulders. I like the more dark color palette you've got going on, though - it's pretty neat!
Thanks man Smiley yeah i agree, i did think the rock looked a bit too flat, but wasnt sure whether with loads of boulders it would make it look a bit messy? I always have problems with rock either looking too plain or like too much is going on haha.

But yeah i hate to post more or less the same image twice but redid the rocks quickly, still mega rough but i'll work on them more later after i finish work, look any better?

Kiss I love it! Especially how the ruins give a bit of mystery to that floating island..
haha thanks Smiley

Love the look of this!

Just a little mockup for my potential agbic entry, can never get rock/stone to look right though :/

Asa they looks awesome!

Its not much, just some stuff i started for a game a while ago and have been working on incredibly slowly

118  Developer / Art / Re: Mockups, or the "Please say this is going to be a game" thread on: February 17, 2012, 03:14:55 PM

looks fun. i see what your saying about the rock, and the cave entrance looks a little off but it might just be because of the rock.

Cheers, yeah im gonna just redo the rock tiles completely

@stickadtroja shitt that looks good!

@jmac Love it! The giant lobster thing looks rad

Still a wip but for a game that i would like to at some point make. Not too happy with the rock tiles but fairly pleased with the grass, feedback would be appreciated
