Hidden / Unpaid Work / Looking for ISO programmer to get with on small projects!
|
on: October 09, 2011, 08:56:31 AM
|
I am borrowing this format from another TIG user. It looks great and gets what I need across! Thanks! Brief description:I am a the lead designer / shared art duties at A Jolly Corpse, but I am looking to get a few of my smaller ideas out while we plug away on on larger projects. I need a programmer to do this and I think ISO would be the perfect format! Target aim:Games for mobile devices Compensation:All releases will be paid through a portion of royalties. Obviously you get the programming portfolio associated with these releases, too! Technology:iPhone/Android Talent needed:Programmers I only will have time for one of these at a time, so I only really need 1 great programmer! I will keep additional help on file because well...people get busy and seem to run off from time to time. Team structure:I will be providing the art and game design/concepts and you will attend to the programming. Sound effects and music will be outsourced when needed (we have a few very talented people we can go to for this already). This is a team project, so any ideas you would like to be heard are more than welcome! Brain storming makes the world go round! Contacts:beau(at)jollycorpse(dot)com If you’re interested then please feel free to contact me and I will be able to send you a brief description of the game idea I would like to work on. Previous Work:I was the co-founder of Fallen Angel Industries and released numerous titles through them. I am currently the co-founder of A Jolly Corpse, working on our primary title Wyv and Keep: The Temple of the Lost Idol. Below are some sample of my own personal game (which was never finished.) This gives you an idea of my style. NO I am not going to be working on this particular title this go around. It is wayyyy too big and does not lend itself to mobile.

Hey all! Just stopping by to update with the latest from Wyv and Keep. We've had a lot of recent exciting developments that we want to share! First off, we now have animated backdrops in place, which add a breath of fresh air to the templates. We're not intending on overusing them (there is enough going on to keep track of), but they do a cool job of accenting levels and giving them a little bit of shine. Here are some jungle waterfalls Next up, we have been polishing up a lot of our backgrounds and adding more complexity to them. Originally our tile sheets were restricted to 128x128, which was a tad small. But now we have limitless tile sheet sizes, so we're making the best of it and adding a whole new world of depth to the sets. It's all quite exciting! Here is a shot of the updated Volcano: Finally, we have perked the interest of some distributors, who have been gracious enough to sign on with us! The popular distribution platform Desura and Japanese distributor Playism have both picked up WnK. In addition, Playism has a booth at the Tokyo Game Show, and will be featuring Wyv and Keep there! Yay! In celebration, we've created a brand new spanking video, which showcases many of the latest features of Wyv and Keep (mentioned above). It's in Japanese, but all the same, it is the latest and greatest and worth a watch. Check out the latest video here! And as always, the Preorder is available with the latest demo and brand new editor. We are reopening the forums in the near future, so those of you with the editor can play and share one another's levels. We will be releasing our own special levels (and templates), too. But they will only be accessible with the editor. So pick it up and support us

Thanks for the responses!
We are continuing to work on the collision system, as well as optimizing the game engine, so it will also run quicker on a variety of systems. We know that the demo had a few quirks, but a lot of what was in place had been recently changed, as we were changing how backgrounds were mapped / loaded.
In regards to the difficulty, we're targeting casual players, but that isn't to say the game doesn't get pretty tough towards the end. It is a puzzle game after all. The demo includes about 1/3rd of the total traps in the game (we wanted to give people a taste, but not spoil all the surprises). The demo's difficulty also climaxes around the approximate difficulty of our 3rd of 6 worlds. The last two in particular are considerably brutal.
But once again, we have taken this into account and are including an easy mode, which has significantly reduced difficulty, so people who are new to the game, can still have a good time and manage through the main campaign.
Thanks again for the comments! We'll keep you all posted!

Jobs / Offering Paid Work / Net Coder for Upcoming Title(s)
|
on: June 23, 2011, 08:53:56 PM

Calling all coders! A Jolly Corpse is a small team of game developers creating simple but high-quality, fun, challenging titles. We develop for Xbox Live, PC, and mobile, and we're currently looking to bring a network programming specialist onboard for our current and future projects! We have a high demand for peer to peer networking, so the ability to create a live, accessible, and lag free environment for 2-4 players is our ultimate goal. If you can tie things into server rooms, all the better! Experience with C# is a must. Familiarity with XNA is a plus. Ideally the coder would be able to spearhead online and peer-to-peer development so that our current programmer is free to concentrate on offline aspects. Overall, we're looking for someone easygoing, creative, responsive and able to work on a deadline and with a team, who loves playing and making games! This work will be paid in royalties based on a to-be-determined percentage of sales. We apologize for not having money to offer up front, but we're all working towards that indie game making dream! Please contact us with portfolios, links to work, or any awesome example of net coding you've done! Email: [email protected]Web: http://www.jollycorpse.com Cheers! A Jolly Corpse Team

Finally got a chance to play - and it plays as good as it looks! I'm also curious as to if an XBL version is in the works... I think that would be the perfect environment to play this in: with friends, with controllers in hand. For some reason, I would be more likely to buy this on a console than a computer. I really don't have many complaints, other than what bkane said about collecting treasure: it does seem a bit pointless. Anyway, it's a solid game without having to collect stuff, which I think speaks to the thoughtful design of the game. Great work, I loved it!
There will be an XBL version of the game and its very much in the works. That is the primary reason we have chosen the development path we have. We are continuing to learn an optimize the engine to get the most we can from a console version of the game. As you could probably guess, we all enjoy the 16bit era of gaming, and would love to have a controller in hand and a compadre by our side. Treasure is mostly pointless in the demo as there is no online high-score table. BUT this is planned for the final game, and treasure will be very essential to boosting your points high enough to be competitive. It also allows players the optional challenge of mini-puzzles within levels to fool around with.

Endtroducing is definitely one I expected to see pop-up at some point, too. It was a great, strange and game-changing album. There's a lot of music on here that I have to go through now :O

Eluveitie - Slania-Evocation I (The Arcane Metal Hammer Edition) A great blend of female vocals, Gaelic music & Metal. A 'Best of' album of sorts for the band. Strange and delicious!
Infected Mushroom - Legend of the Black Shawarma Infected Mushroom have been exponentially better since they traded in strict Psy-Trance for a playful vocal rock edge. Guitars and live drums enrich an otherwise stale genre.
Porcupine Tree - Deadwing I was hesitant to put this on the list just because Porcupine Tree make virtually every 'best band you've never heard of' list there is lately. That aside, they are a marvelous example of progressive rock with layers of rich guitar, complex drumming and deep lyrics.
Pop Will Eat Itself - Dos Dedos Mis Amigos Despite a Spanish album title, a British band is the brain behind this eclectic and fun album. An entertaining mix of industrial rock, politics, and sampled music. Several tracks off this album appeared in the Playstation game "Loaded"

I am liking the concept of this. I checked out the rules, but I will need a partner to play with. The physics write-up was interesting, too. Though I don't particularly feel it had much to do with the game itself and was more of an off-key way you view the game. Making simple card / board games with strategic implications is very difficult. I have tried it in the past, but I never thought of combining cards and a chess board. Kudos to you for doing so. Dacke's comments seem to sum up a lot of what I would consider problems in the game. 5 hours is a long ass battle for anything but Risk. And this almost sounds like Risk, now that I think of it. So maybe that isn't a bad thing.

We debated about putting FX on there. But you're not the first person to ask, Derek. Seems like we might have to throw it up on the page after all. @Nugsy: You're thinking about War Angels. Hamish initially was going to make it a Factor X sequel, but Jesse and I already had one under construction, so Hamish opted for another title. Who knows if Jesse and I's super secret sequel will ever see the light of day :O

We're working towards having something demo worthy in the next few weeks. We have been revamping the engine a lot lately to make the gameplay more fluid and to better integrate the grid where it's necessary (like the puzzle elements). We're expecting the demo to be a few levels long and introduce some of the more common traps, as well as have a variety in puzzle difficulty
