61  Jobs / Offering Paid Work / composer needed for game trailer on: July 26, 2010, 03:16:35 PM
We need a composer to make a royalty free track for the first video trailer of our game The Undergrounder.

This is a low budget job, but we still need a composer for the game so this could be just the beginning of a longer collaboration.

If you're interested leave me a contact/send me a message and I'll write you back with more info.
62  Community / DevLogs / private Beta with new screenshots and new graphics! on: July 13, 2010, 08:44:06 AM
We decided to revisit our graphic style, this is the result:

The game now is in the private BETA stage, that means we're testing it before starting the closed BETA for non-team members (hopefully in 2-3 weeks).

Last but not least, we are now using Wordpress as dev-blog. Smiley

hey Alex, thanks for the feedback!

I think we're not going for a radical change in the art style, but we had a chat yesterday and now we're reviewing some ideas to improve what we have and make different elements fit better together.
64  Player / General / Re: Web Hosting! on: June 03, 2010, 04:51:03 AM
but the topic is unrelated. it's really pretty simple

the topic is definitely not unrelated.

This thread was and still is about web hosting, I just specified my needs whereas Alec was pretty generic.

If you enabled the "Notify me of replies" option after you replied in the old discussion (and I really can't get why...) you can disable it at any time, it's pretty simple... and it takes less time than posting 3 times like you just did.

I don't think you'll find anyone that truly offer unlimited space and bandwidth, at least not at that price. In my experience, the companies that offer "unlimited" bandwidth will shut you down if you use too many resources. It's often vaguely covered in their terms and services.

Yeah, I know they give you shared hosting and "unlimited" never really means unlimited, but I hope those companies allow u to use more than 1000-5000 GB/mo. of bandwidth that seems to be the average bandwidth most of the providers offer for that price range.
66  Community / DevLogs / The Undergrounder: First game screenshots! on: June 01, 2010, 02:00:45 AM
At last I can show you two screenshots taken from the latest alpha build of the game:

The first one is taken when starting a level, instead the second one after few minutes of play. For a more detailed description and more info check the related post in our dev-blog.

Any comment/feedback is welcome. Smiley

This seems to be the latest thread about web hosting so... up! Smiley

I need a suggestion on web hosting with unlimited disk space and bandwidth, my budget cap is $10/mo. for now.

Most of the users in this thread suggested Dreamhost, but the discussion is 1 year old, so I'm wondering if people can confirm that suggestion now Noir
68  Community / Townhall / Re: LabChirp! Sound effect generator on: May 31, 2010, 01:13:51 PM
I'm getting this error message when trying to run it on Linux (Kubuntu 8.04):
Quote
install the Windows version of Mono to run .NET executables
So probably that's all the program needs to run on Linux, but I'm definitely not going to install mono on my pc, so I'll try to find some spare time to test it on Windows.

Anyway, thanks for sharing Wink
69  Community / DevLogs / The Undergrounder: A new graphic style... on: May 11, 2010, 05:28:35 AM
At last it's time for a new update Smiley

We have a new logo for the game (showed in the first message of this thread), the level editor is almost finished and we decided to change the graphic style of the game as you can see in the following video:

You can read the full story on our dev-blog, peace out.
70  Community / Tutorials / Re: How to compile OpenGL and SDL code on Windows on: April 13, 2010, 02:34:13 AM
Probably things would be much easier if MinGW and Cygwin had less bugs, so it's not all Windows fault... but it's ok when you know how to fix them Smiley
71  Community / Tutorials / How to compile OpenGL and SDL code on Windows on: April 09, 2010, 03:16:40 AM
I wrote a blog post/tutorial about how to compile OpenGL and SDL code on Windows using MinGW and Cygwin.

Even if the tutorial is not intended for newbies and it could describe steps you won't need for your project (like the ones related to Scons), I hope it could help some developers installing these tools and porting their games on Windows.

Enjoy!

thanks Ciro  Wink

sorry for the slow reply, my laptop and internet were totally out of my mind during the last weekend, and today I had to solve few problems with linux and my wireless connection.

Anyway, it's very funny how somebody that doesn't know me at all, doesn't know anything about my life and especially doesn't know anything about my plans is judging me... using such great points too!  Smiley
I'd like to keep the flame going and comment every single point, but I'm not a kid any more and I have a lot of work to do, so I'm gonna pass this time (joking, I have to sit on my chair and stare at the screen hoping something will happen sooner or later... Grin).

Regarding the waste of MBs, I've clearly written I made this app just for fun and for testing the QT SDK on Windows, so I really don't get why somebody could get offended by the fact I'm wasting 3 Mb (actually, it's 4 Wink), especially cause I'm wasting the space on my server.
What to say... people should learn how to chill out and take life easy, now and then at least Smiley

See you online, hopefully with some news about a real game next time  Wink
74  Community / Townhall / Re: iQuit on: February 23, 2010, 03:58:54 PM
Good luck, i have done the same, but it's not an advice i would give to anyone, there is no graal other their, except self esteem

Thanks. I totally agree, I'm sure this is the best thing for me now, in this period of my life and for several personal reasons too, but it's definitely not the final solution to all the problems for everybody.

Self discipline is the best.

That's not a problem if I'm interested in what I'm doing / working on  Smiley
75  Community / Townhall / Re: iQuit on: February 23, 2010, 12:37:24 PM
Not sure it's the best idea to just drop your job in order to go fulltime indie.

It'll most probably be very, very hard.

I never said it's gonna be easy.. but I'm a slacker and I need challenges in my life... Smiley
Anyway I hope things will be fine and I'm quite confident about it, for now at least Wink

I say go for it. You only live once and there's always ramen! I hope to do the same one day (first I just have to have a job to quit).

Thanks! The "you only live once" was one of the main pros when taking the decision...  Smiley
Good luck with your job hunting then.
76  Community / Townhall / iQuit on: February 23, 2010, 11:47:57 AM

sorry to disappoint the iPhone fans, but iQuit is not a new game for the iPhone... to be honest it's not a real game at all Smiley

I made this simple "game" last week for celebrating my last day of work in the industry, so yeah, I guess the real announce here is I'm leaving the game industry for working full time as indie developer Cool
Probably this is not going to be the news of the month in the indie scene, but I wanted to share it with the main communities I follow just because I'm really excited for my new life/career.

Anyway, iQuit is a real executable and if you want to try it, you can download it from my website, but don't blame me if you don't like the gameplay, the disclaimer here is pretty clear  Wink

Well, it's time to make some great games now (hopefully), see you online  Smiley
77  Community / DevLogs / Re: The Undergrounder - WIP on: February 04, 2010, 08:55:09 AM
I really like the everyday-life theme of this game.  I wouldn't worry about being boring with it.  Most people in the world are interested in these kinds of stories. Smiley

Thanks godatplay  Smiley

I'm more inclined to the John Carmack's idea of story in a game... players want fun, the story is not the most important part of the game, that's all.
That could be not true for some particular games, but I'm not planning to make any RPG or any other heavy-story-based game for now Grin
78  Community / Townhall / Re: Jobs/Collaboration Board? on: February 02, 2010, 06:35:37 AM
great idea!

What about having 2 different boards for finding and offering threads?
79  Community / DevLogs / Level editor BETA3 + video on: January 13, 2010, 02:42:34 PM
Hi guys,

just yesterday I posted the latest news about the game in our dev-blog and I think it's time for posting an update on TigSource too Smiley

In the last months I've been working mostly on the level editor, integrating the game engine for a real-time preview of the levels.
Anyway, most of the progress is showed in the following two videos:

Level Editor BETA2

Level Editor BETA3

There's still a lot to do, especially for the game, but I hope we'll be able to start a closed-beta period in few weeks, maybe a month. I'll keep you posted about it Wink
80  Community / DevLogs / new Lowpoly Studios website on: October 27, 2009, 05:58:26 AM
A new update, even if it's not totally related to The Undergrounder.

We have a new website: http://www.lowpoly-studios.com
and we started a contest where we are giving away 3 free copies of the game, all the details are on the homepage.

Some sections of the website are still incomplete, like the Games one, but the style is pretty well defined now, so any feedback is welcome! Wink
